    JW direct mail.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

And if you're curious, yes, JW does refer to the Jehovah's Witness, I got a piece of direct mail. I heard that because of the pandemic, Jehovah's Witnesses weren't going door to door anymore. And their…believe it or not, they're actually using the mail.

And I'm going to go through a piece of their mail and talk about how it relates back to your business, how you could use direct mail, how you could use sales concepts, and so forth.

Today's my birthday, May 13. This may be coming out a day later.

But let's talk about this. And this, I've been doing direct mail reviews for quite a while now. And since I've started, I realized that quite a few other people also do the same type of deal.

So I think it's great and it's definitely worth watching some of those people out there one in particular Steve Sipress, if you haven't seen Steve Sipress, go check them out on YouTube and Facebook, he's probably in some other places. H

is last name spelled, S I P R E S S, I believe Steve Sipress, he has every Mondays direct mail Monday where he will take a piece of direct mail or a concept around direct mail and talk about it. So that's great stuff.

This is I've blocked out some of the things this wasn't even directly related to me this was to a previous occupant and or current resident, and I'm current residents.

So I opened it up, and it's from a fellow named Barry from up north from here and just on the envelope just to give you a concept, very well done. It has it kind of has a flowery thing on the envelope, which gives it that field that it's from somebody that you know, and then it's not business related, not just real basic live stamp there, which is also a good thing.

If you're trying to get through to somebody, and you don't want to appear to be junk mail or doing any type of a pitch.

I'm not talking just if you're if you're trying to bring someone over to your way of thinking when it comes to religion I'm talking about across the board, it doesn't matter. When it comes to people.

People respond the same way to most of these concepts. So you got to understand the big picture here. Whether you're selling TVs, or selling Jesus Christ, that's kind of the same concept.

At least in get into getting in front of them, obviously, you're going to have a different different discussion that you're going to have with them right off the bat. One thing I'd recommend if you're doing something like this, if you there's any way that you can hand write these details or hire somebody to hand write the the return address…

(one of Brian's kids opens the door) okay, go talk to mom, can you shut my door please.

    She's outside, I think.

I have three kids, and sometimes they don't realize that I'm doing my show. So that's always fun.

We've got you if you hand write the return address, and the address gives that much more a feel of being a real thing. And something that is people are going to open it. Most people this is a concept going way back Gary Halbert, the marketing genius used to always talk about the A and the B pile about how people take their mail.

  • Make Life Easier By Combining Projects

Make life easier by combining projects.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, Welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I decided today, I had a couple things to do. And I'm a little tired, as the sun's going down out here at the Pombo family compound.

And I still needed to go grab the garbage can. It's garbage day, and they come and take it today.

But it's a little bit down the road to go and get it and bring it all the way back.

So I figured I'd combine it by doing my nightly video with you.

So it's a great thing to think about combining things. The it's really great in terms of content marketing, I've talked about it before, if you can find a way to take one piece of content that you're doing, and then do duplicate it over and over again, in other formats.

Taking, let's say, a video you do, grabbing the transcript from it, turning that into an email series, or a mini course that you can train people with.

There's a million different ways to do the same thing with one piece of content can be multiplied a million different ways.

    That's one example.

But obviously any type of project you can find a way to combine it with something else that needs doing and still have great value still be providing great value for other people. So hopefully that makes sense. quick idea tonight.

  • Find A Great Partner

You may be able to build a successful small business on your own.

But..if you wanna grow further, at some point, you'll need good people on your team to help.

    Find a great partner.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, Welcome back to Brian J Pombo Live.

Tonight's gonna be a quick one.

Before I start, I want to make sure and remind you, especially if this is your first time, go get your own free copy of my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business, you get a free copy at AmazonProofBook.com, digital copy.

You can also buy a hardback one wherever books are sold. And it has a lot to do with the strategies that I teach on, it's a quick read on how to make your business competition proof and how to get it exploding like never before.

So go check out that book.

I want to talk a little bit about finding a partner, because I forgot some great partners I work with. One of my main ones is one I talk about often Sean E. Douglas, who is a producer of this podcast, the two other podcasts that I'm currently doing, and is the behind the scenes man behind everything that I do.

And he's got skin in the game on making sure that all this happens.

You've got to find somebody that has that you got to find somebody that can work with you side by side. And maybe you can do it all on your own.

But I haven't found the person yet that can't as great as all the business owners I've ever worked with. And all the executives I've ever worked with. As great as they were not one of them, I found that could do it all.

Now a lot of them could do a lot. And they may be able to do enough to create the company they want. Every once in awhile someone has just enough conation, in enough spots, that they can build the company they want and let it kind of run on its own.

Without a whole and they can kind of they can fly off of old marketing that they've been able to put out there and just kind of ride off of their name, if they've been able to put themselves in a position of building a good name.

I know a handful, very few people that can do that, and have done that and seem to be liking the life that they've created for themselves.

In general, the rest of us need help.

We need people who can do other things, I know, me, myself, I do a couple things really, really well. But none of those things relate to building the actual business, they relate to delivering great value to customers and clients.

And so one of the things I do is I come in and help produce value, I help take ideas, put them in the right order to be able to create a plan and help getting that plan executed over time.

    That's what I do.

And so if you're looking for a partner like that, I would love to see what you're doing and see what I can do to help you to find out more about me through my book up, anybody that I team up with, I always recommend they take a look at this.

First, they take a look at the book first and then from there. And definitely watch more of these, listen to more of these podcasts.

See if you think we'd be a good fit personality wise. Other than that, what everything else, you need to make sure it's covered also.

So when I say partner, I don't necessarily mean owner in your business with you. In fact, I shy away as much as possible from, from sharing ownership of the company.

  • You Gotta Jump On That Magic!

Thoughts on taking quick action, when an idea gives you inspiration to move ahead.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5uUjXjxYgs

    Transcription

You gotta jump on that magic.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is one of those titles that I don't know where it comes from. And it's not necessarily going to appeal to anybody. But sometimes some of the best material that I put out there are just random garbage like that.

But you really do have to jump on the magic.

Here's what I mean by jumping on the magic, it's when you get an idea, when you get a little feeling, a little tug, a little intuitive, or on the inside, you got to jump on it.

You got to go with it now or as soon as possible.

Really, it's a really big deal.

I've seen this over and over and over again, I had a mentor once that he was talking about how to go through the process.

If you're making phone calls for business, how do you go through that process?

How do you get over that hump?

He said, you just as soon as you've got the number in your hand, you dial it and just let it go. You just got to pick it up and just go, you just go in it.

There's something to jumping on that intuitive urging. That gives you the right timing, it fits just the right way.

For example, I had a that little situation come up with me today, which is why I bring them I'm bringing this up. And a name from my past popped in my head.

So when I haven't talked to for quite a while, I haven't seen face to face, I was calculating it. It's probably been 10 years. And I said, you know, I think I still have his number on my phone.

And I looked and sure enough, I was in between…basically, I was done for the night. Honestly, I was on my way home and I said, I'm going to give him a call.

Every couple years, I'll give him a call, and I get his answer machine.

    And I leave a message.

So I'm just gonna give him a call, we'll see what happens, I bet he'll pick up.

Sure enough, he picked up. And sure enough, it was like old times, it was like nothing, Nothing was different.

If it's you, you know, who you are.

And so I just said, Hey, I saw…one of the reasons why his name popped in my head is I'd seen today or yesterday or a couple days ago, his face pop up on Facebook. I say, I saw you on Facebook, I figured out to give you a call.

    We got to get together.

    Yeah, absolutely, let's do it.

He said I'm gonna be around next week. So we're gonna talk next week.

But afterwards, I can just feel that rush of not adrenaline is more like, yeah, that was the right timing, I got to do more of that, I got to get moving more like in that direction.

So I'm going to, I'm going to pay closer attention to that because the magic happens in the moment and you can't ignore it.

Something's urge you to do something, you got to do it, you got to jump on it.

Hopefully that makes sense to you. If you're looking for strategies to help grow your business fast, I wrote a whole book about this, it's called, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

I say whole book is if it's this giant tome, it's a tiny little book. It's this little thin thing.

Are you speaking your customers language?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today I'm coming to you from the beaches of Bandon, Oregon. I'm here on the, on the little patio here, of the motel that we've got here just on the beach, the beach is right back there. I think because of the exposure, you can't quite see it, we're getting towards sundown right now.

Out here, you'll might be able to hear cars driving by or waves or a little bit of wind here and there. But it's a nice, relatively peaceful night.

But it reminds me my experience here reminds me a whole lot of my experiences in building campaigns and working with speaking to customers, or potential customers or clients through advertising, and through ongoing communication, via any form of marketing whatsoever.

We talked a lot about content marketing, well, sometimes content marketing isn't just for potential customers, sometimes it's for you know, your current customers and really be able to send them a direct message.

So this is a very interesting example.

So when I grew up, I grew up in Northern California. And the closest the closest beaches that everyone tended to go to, were right around Santa Cruz area.

There's Capitola, and Aptose, and all these areas around there. And that tended to be a pretty good beach location that everyone would go to, especially during, you know, in the middle of the summer.

When you think of a beach in terms of Northern California beach, that was I mean pretty cold water, but great sand, and still very much worth swimming in and surfing and, and just having an all out good time, you can spend all day at the beach.

As I got older started going to more Southern California, where the where the, the waters a little warmer, you can spend a little bit more time.

Then you start going to places like Hawaii, and some of these places where the water is actually warm, where there, there's literally warm water. And that just blows your mind if you're not used to it.

That's a completely different thing when you use the word beach. And Hawaiian beach is nothing like a beach in Northern California, you know, and then got a little bit older, and went to the Pacific Northwest up here in Oregon.

And you go to the beaches here and people don't go swimming in the water up here. It's still fabulous, it's a great vacation, it's a great place to go.

But it's a completely different vacation. beach here does not mean swimming and surfing unless you can serve if you've got a you know, a wetsuit, and, and you're very adventurous.

But you're not gonna see a whole lot of surfing going on out here in general, there's going to be a lot more people just walk in the beach, and sometimes you're walking the beach in a sweatshirt like this, or like today, you walk around and flip flops, shorts and, and a sweatshirt on top with a beanie or something to keep it keep you warm. And so that's that's how we hang out and beaches in Oregon. But it's not the same thing.

The exact same word for nearly the exact same location means at least 10 different things. Depending on where you're at in the world. I don't know,

Give it your best shot tomorrow.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

You know, a lot of times people talk about, you know, just doing your best all the time, 100%, 110% and all that.

And really it comes. For me, it really comes down to doing your best one moment at a time. Sometimes you get down to the end of the day, and you say, I just, there's so much more I could have done worse, or I could have done so much better.

Then in that scenario, you really have to say, okay, well, tomorrow you got to, you just got to set it in line for tomorrow and get some good sleep and get up as early as you can and try at it again.

So today, I'll give you a little bit of background about how I how I came up with this topic. today. I'm out on the west coast of Oregon, a little town called Bandon, you can go look it up, Bandon, Oregon.

We like to come out in here, at least during the warm part of the year. This is probably a little early for that. Because it's still a little cool out here.

But we'll see how tomorrow goes.

We're right on the beach and nice little motel we've never been here before. And we are just hanging out for Mother's Day. So I hope you have a great Mother's Day if you're watching this on Mother's Day or beyond, and I have my birthday coming up.

So I also like coming around to this area of the world during my birthday if we ever if we have time we have. So I'm here with the family.

I'm out in the car recording because everyone inside is trying to sleep so difficult thing for when I'm out of town, you end up getting a dashboard recording here. But they tonight after having a pretty decent day we had a good trip, uneventful in terms of travel, and which is good when it comes to happen a big family and then I got some Oh, relatively bad news about a family member who's who has cancer and is having a large, essential piece of their body cut out because of it.

Now they think that they can take care of it and they think they'll be able to extend their life longer.

But it's nothing fun, It's nothing you like to see. But it really comes down to from my perspective, realizing that we got a teeny tiny, short life in the great perspective of things. It really doesn't last long.

You just got to do your best one day at a time. And it's nighttime here. So My day starts tomorrow, I'm going to be the best person I can before I fall asleep. But everything else needs to happen tomorrow, just going to get out there and do it.

Hopefully get up, beat the family up hopefully to get get a couple things done. Before we we head out on our day adventure, hanging out at the beach and doing other things exploring what we'd like to do.

I just suggest you do the same because you don't know how long your loved ones are going to be with you. You don't know how long you're going to be kicking it around. And so you just got to do your best one day at a time, always discover something new.

    Be as courageous as possible.

Try new things, don't leave any regrets as little as possible. Nothing more than that.

That's all I got for you tonight. You have a great night we'll be back tomorrow.

The Secret Hack, to Productivity Hacks.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I want to talk about productivity hacks, but specifically, the secret hack behind all productivity hacks. And this came after I've come in contact just in the past week, with a whole lot of people giving advice on pieces of software and services you can get online that are productivity hacks. That are things that will help you be more productive as a business owner, as a person that's maybe entrepreneurial thinking or what have you.

And I and I will give you lists over time.

Here's one specific one that I just came in contact with. It's called notion. And I'll put the link in the description. notion is a productivity hack. In a sense, it's a website that allows you to organize your thoughts in a certain way.

I'm trying it out so far and as with most cases, I find that if they're somewhat helpful, I really enjoy them in the very beginning.

But the real test is over time is after the excitement has kind of died down. And I have to deal with it on a regular basis.

All the fun is taken out of it because I know all of its functionality.

What now, how useful is it?

But so far I've been I've been pretty happy with this one, I'll give you more info. As time goes on, we'll see how well it works in the long run.

    Here's what I found.

Here's the big hack behind all productivity hacks.

And it's this one size does not fit all.

Just because it works for somebody does not mean it's going to work for you, it can be great and life changing for them. I mean, honestly, one little piece of software, one little website or service that you subscribe to, or even Oh, the Holy Grail, the free online service, that changes your life, right?

That can happen. It can happen it can, it does exist for some people.

But you got to remember, it has a lot to do with your co nation with your mentality with your personality with how you function, and everybody's different.

This is what's crazy, everybody's different.

Now, if you know more about co nation, like we've discussed before that Kathy Kolbe way of thinking, you can look up more at Kolbe.com, K O L B E dot com.

You can find out all about her companies, and the ideas that they're trying to spread in terms of figuring out people's co nation. So being able to quantify how you work best, and then showing you how to do that and how to work with others that work best in different ways.

That's been a huge eye opener, because it shown me that just because I can't figure out how to do something that seems to work for everybody else, doesn't mean there's something wrong with me.

It's just not the way I'm wired.

I'm wired a different way, and I've got to find other people that are wired in other ways to be able to fill in the gaps in my business, in my projects that I work on and everything else.

So what's that have to do with productivity?

Productivity is different for everybody. Everyone's going to be productive in different ways.

This is the kind of the issues with school right now is they tend to ha...

  • Getting To Know You, by Chris Carey

The 3rd and final installment of our personality profile series, Brian talks about what might be the best book ever put together on this topic by the late Chris Carey.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ-9v4Zw-NA

Getting to Know You, by Chris Carey.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today I'm going to be reviewing, Getting to Know You, by Chris Carey. The late, great Chris Carey, he put out quite a few books, this was my favorite of his.

This one came out in 2002. This is still, I believe, my original copy.

I'm surprised it doesn't have more highlights and so forth. And I think I know why though, it's because I really do see a worn out it is, I enjoyed this book so much that I'd really didn't know where to start with the highlighting.

It was probably during a period of time where I wasn't doing that much in books when it came to that. But this book, just front to back, I thought was one of the best books I've read on the DISC personality model.

Now, we talked for the last two episodes. So if you're wanting to know more about the four part personality concept, the theory behind personality, you want to check out the other two videos that I put out, one on, Personality Plus, by Florence Littauer, and one positive personality profiles by Dr. Robert Rome, both really good books.

And I want to go back to Robert Rohm for a second because it will allow me to explain Chris's book a little better. This one is positive personality profiles that he goes through.

I think he has given the easiest way for me to ever describe personalities to people, the first step is to really take it and say, you know, are you outgoing or are you reserved?

That's the first step, are you more outgoing or more reserved?

Now, there's a lot of us that are kind of in between, depending on where we're around and everything else. But in your what you will consider your most natural state are in the part the when you're being the most you are you more outgoing?

    Are you more reserved?

    Okay, that's the first step.

Then you ask yourself, are you more task or are you more people oriented?

    That's the other one.

And based on how you answer that, so for example, a, an outgoing, task oriented person, if that's your main trait, you would say that your a D on the which is Florence Littauer would refer to as a cleric.

If you're an outgoing people oriented person, you're an I. Okay, also known as sanguine, if you're a reserved task person, you're a C, or a melancholy. And if you're a reserved people person, you're an S, or a phlegmatic.

So that is how Robert Rome describes the DISC, it's actually my favorite way to describe it to people, if I'm talking personalities with somebody. That's the first thing I say, and we tend to be, we tend to at least have two strong ones on that you have a major one and a second, and a secondary one. And you can probably figure out what that is, with yourself.

For me, I'm a strange one, you don't see this very often, but I'm a DS.

So I mainly D, I'm task oriented and and outgoing. But secondarily, I'm the exact opposite, which is people oriented and reserved. So that's just an example.

Now what Chris does, he goes through a similar thing except instead of saying outgoing or reserved. He says fast or slow, which was a different way of looking at it what you'll find is that in ...

  • Positive Personality Profiles, by Robert Rohm

Positive Personality Profiles, by Robert Rohm.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is the second video in a series that I'm doing on the top three books that I've come across dealing with the four personalities and the theory behind four personality types.

But basically a four personality quadrant, if you will.

The first one I talked about was Personality Plus, by Florence Littauer. And the only reason I mentioned that one is because it was the original book that I came in contact with, I knew a lot of people that they consider that their Bible when it came to understanding the four personalities.

This was another gentleman that that has added a whole level and is probably probably one of the leading experts out there relating to the DISC model of that referring to each personality trait as a D, I, S or C and go into the detail over what those are and what those are not.

And this is, this is one of those books that is it's almost like a textbook.

Now Robert Rohm's an interesting fellow, you can find out a whole lot about him just by doing a search.

He also comes at it from a from a Christian perspective, similar to Florence Littauer. So he uses a lot of analogies and references, back to the Bible, and so on, so forth.

So it is one of those things that you have to realize that going into it.

Robert Rohm is an amazing speaker, I think he is the best I've seen at giving live presentations, he has a basic presentation that I've seen him do both in person and on video a number of times, and it is one of the best.

It's one of those that I like to show people who are just learning about the personalities, I will either show them a video or I have an audio version of the of the speech also. And he is entertaining.

He covers the whole gambit, he talks about how he came across it. In book format, this is almost more like a textbook.

I mean, he takes you from beginning to end, he covers this side of it that side of it, it's not for me personally, it's not the easiest read. But it is the most informative across the board and one that I go back to over and over again, when I'm looking to find out something specific about you know what personality.

We may be more interested in this or that what which which one, you know, gives off this versus that and so on so forth.

Very interesting book. Any I recommend any of Robert Rohm's materials, he has a large, large assortment of materials, he does speech and he's done speeches for a million and has been a consultant for a million corporations.

Definitely somebody that's worth looking into and reading his material. And he had a way of simplifying it even more succinctly, the fourth let our dead.

So that's why this is definitely one of my top books, when it comes to personalities. Now, if you'd, if you'd like to get a copy of one of those videos, I actually have a link for a copy.

So if I still have it at the time, you're watching this and you're wanting or listening to this and you're wanting it, I'm going to flash my email address across the screen.

And if you're listening to this, you'll have to go to my Youtube or to one of the videos at BrianJPombo.com I should say,

    Personality Plus, by Florence Littauer.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I wanted to talk about this book today and how it would affect you in your business. But first I have to move by chair this is this is we record these live, we do not edit them. And my chair for the last handful of episodes keeps hitting the back.

But me with personality that does not. That gets distracted easily. I think about it every time we're doing these videos. And then as soon as I'm done with the video, I forget about it.

Night after night, I come back and if you watch the earlier videos, you might hear a little clunking in the background because I'm hitting the bookshelf that has a a metal lunch pail on the top of it.

It makes this clanking sound, it's a horrible thing anyway, so you didn't need to know that, but it does.

It does have something to do with our topic tonight is personality plus, this was the first book I read on the four personality theory, which is the idea that everyone has a certain amount of all of the four quadrants of personalities. And depending on the amount of each one that you have is how your personality exudes itself in public.

As I've studied this through the years, I've come to the conclusion that Kathy Colby, I believe is correct that this is from the affective of side of the brain.

So it has to do with the side of your animal side of who you are. That is deals in emotion, it deals in communication, and so on so forth.

It's a very specific area of the brain, that people are considered 1,2,3,4 of the four different quadrants.

These quadrants go by different names, you've probably heard of the colored ones where you have certain colors that represent I believe it's green, red, blue, and yellow, I believe. And then there's ones where they named after animals.

This particular one of the oldest one that I'm aware of, which was first developed by Hippocrates, of famous from the Hippocratic oath, one of the first major doctor minds back in ancient Greece, he noticed that people, certain people had a large amount of fluids in their system because he was one of the original ones to start documenting, taking apart cadavers.

He found that certain people had a large amount of bile or a large amount of phlegm in them, and he pointed it back to their personality, which is where you come up with these four names that Florence Littauer uses in her book.

Which are the four names of the personality extremes, which is called choleric, melancholy, sanguine, and why is my mind blanking…choleric, melancholy, sanguine, and phlegmatic.

Each one of those is based on the amount of fluids that was in a person's system.

Now through the years different people have come up with different versions of this different actually famous philosophers have an I can't remember them all off the top, I think Aristotle may have been one of them, that thought that there may be five personality extremes and so forth.

And so this is this has been bandied about throughout time, but it all plays to the same general concept that you probably have one major personality feature that shows up the most and probably a secondary one that is that's most visible.

In most cases in most people. That is the situation.
