    Get attention in the mail.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

There's always a time in business when you need to get somebody's attention.

I was talking with somebody earlier that is looking to take their product to market, probably going to be doing it direct sales to customer. And we're talking about different types of people, he was going to need to be able to build up his business, possible investors, talking about, you know, manufacturers, and so on, so forth.

And it all comes back to the same thing throughout business, no matter what it always comes back to getting people's attention.

Oh, I know another one, he was looking to get a hold of basically, influencers, social influencers that can reach on a larger marketplace and provide testimonials and so forth.

There's a lot of different ways of going about doing this, you can go via the email route, I've done a lot of cold emails. And there's a way to do that.

You got to know what you're doing, and you got to expect that a whole whole lot of what you're doing is going to be a complete waste of time and will never reach the eyeballs of anybody.

That's the nature of email, at least in 2021.

You can go the route of making phone calls, which is also it's difficult, because it's tough getting through gatekeepers, and so forth.

It all depends on who you're trying to reach at what time whether they have a phone number that is available out there in some form of directory or some forums that you have their phone number.

So that could be that can be difficult, but it definitely can be done. It's very, very useful. I've mentioned how to go about doing cold calling and warm calling.

We've discussed that and other things that we'll be talking more about that in the future. Another way that so many people pass up is direct mail, and I talk a lot about direct mail, I understand, but I'm talking snail mail, I'm talking sending a letter through the mail to them.

And I don't care if it's a post office, or I don't care if it's FedEx or UPS or any other delivery service.

If you can deliver something and get it in their hand and be able to make it to where it doesn't appear enough like junk mail. That they're just going to toss it before looking at it.

If you get them to open it great.

I'm not gonna show you the other side of this mailer, because it's got my address and I forgot to forgot to black it out.

This is this is this was a birthday card and it looks like a card looks like an invitation or a card. And on the other side it has who it came from it it's got one of the one of those hair when those little labels you get labels you get where you have them pre made with your name and address on them that you can use as return address.

This is from my aunt Kathy, my aunt Kathy sent me a birthday card. So my birthday was a little bit earlier. And I got this birthday card I wanted to show it to you because it brought me back into the business world right away.

    It's crafty.

This is a this is a crafty card that I'm sure she made herself or she knew somebody that was doing these things. It so it has that homemade appeal to it.

It's got my name on it.

  • 2 Revealing Questions For Business Owners

In a continuation from yesterdays vlog, Brian brings you his two questions for someone you're talking with in a new industry.

Two revealing questions for business owners.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Yesterday we were talking about two steps for if you're looking into starting a business, we on what should you do?

And one of the main steps, the second step that I went over was interviewing business owners interviewing people, especially in businesses, or in industries that you're looking to get into people that you think you'd want to be like, okay.

You definitely want to examine their lifestyle, you know, how much time do they spend at work, all that stuff?

    Hopefully, that's obvious.

Two questions that I think are imperative that you should ask anybody in an industry that you're looking to get into, either as a business owner, if you're looking to invest in a business even that's in that industry, these are the two big questions.

There'll be very revealing for somebody that's open and honest about the business that they're starting.

The reason why I'm talking about this, is because you got a whole lot of people that used to be in business that are that their business failed during the COVID-19 crisis, you have a whole lot of people that have never been in business before.

But because of the COVID-19 crisis, it scared them into trying something new.

People were done with a lot of the employment options out there.

So I wanted to throw this out there, even though I'm normally working with people that are already in business, and already successful in business. I've wanted to kind of toss this out there for the people that are looking to get into a new industry, or people that have never done business before.

It definitely want to interview business owners.

    Here's the two questions.

Number one question is, are the first question no, no, if it's the number one question, but it's the first question, what do you like best about your business and industry?

So this is a common question, I asked this on nearly every podcast that I put out there, my interview podcasts.

So what I'm gonna do, we've got a set of interviews that are coming up here for Brian J. Pombo Live.

That we kind of branded BJP Chats, and those are with direct business owners. It's a common question that I tend to ask because it's very revealing when you look at what they like best about what they do.

Number one, what they like best may not be what you would like best. But what they like best is revealing something about the industry that is very big in their minds.

So it's something you want to know, what they like best to see if it is something that you would like, or if it's something you wouldn't like.

What I like best is the people I'm surrounded by people all day, I can't get enough for people, well, person who's really not into people isn't going to be too happy with that answer.

If a person is you know, more introverted, or they're easily drained by too many people, then that's that's might be a little bit of a turnoff.

So these are the type of questions you have to ask.

    That's the first one.

  • 2 Steps Before Starting a Business

Brian offers a few tips you should consider before starting a business.

Two steps before starting a business.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

One of the things that I do most of the time is is spent a lot of time with people that have businesses that are already up and running and relatively successful, and are already in movement.

There's an old term that it's easier to steer a moving car than a parked car, okay, if it's already moving, if it's already growing, it's a lot easier to get things done.

The toughest time in a business is in the very beginning those first few months, those first few years, that is by far the toughest time in any business.

But at the same time, I still work on the side with people that want to start a business for the first time.

If you're one of those people, I've got two tips for you, right off the bat, two things you want to start with.

    Number one.

The first thing I would recommend you doing especially right now, so this is May of 2021. Even if you're watching this years in the future, this will probably still be the same with the first things I recommend you do is write down everything you want to have not want to have from a business.

So both the results that you're hoping to get from it. And the things that you definitely don't want from it, but you figure business might provide, you know, spending too much time in the office or what have you, you've got to have those pieces of the list worked out, you've got to write all that stuff down.

And seriously, don't just and talk about it, if you've if you're going into it with anybody else, if you have a spouse, if you have loved ones that are going to be dependent on you, any of those, you're going to want to write all this stuff down and talk to them about it.

Talk about that, you know, best case scenario, worst case scenario when it comes to business ownership, if it were really to do what you wanted to do, write down what that is. And there's a reason for that.

The reason is that when you start looking, or if you if you've even started looking for the type of business you're looking for, you're going to want to ask questions of people in those businesses to see if it fits, where you want to be and see a horse, see if the negatives start popping up.

So you got to have those written down, it can't just be at the back of your head, you've got to start learning that stuff that just sits in the back of your head is useless. It's got to get down on paper at some point, it's got to become tangible.

That's how you make it in the business world.

Especially if you're anything like me, where you can be a little scatterbrained and forgetful about things. I know these are important things you think you there's no way I could possibly forget.

But you may forget them all at the same, you may forget pieces of them at the wrong time. So you're gonna want to write those down, write down those lists.

Second thing that you're going to want to do is you're going to want to start talking to business owners.

If you know business owners start talking to them. And there's two questions, I'm going to recommend you ask them, but even if you just start having conversations with them about their business, that's going to get you a long way.

  • Content Marketing is the Gateway Drug

Why content marketing can be a smart move for any business or person trying to get their message out to to the world. Also, some added thoughts on how it plays into information marketing.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dgd8ka5ss0

Content Marketing is the Entryway Drug.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

What is content marketing the entry way drug to, and who is it the entry way drug for?

I'm going to cover all of that in today's a little talk, but first, I wanted to remind you about the book that I have, which is the entry way drug to content marketing itself.

So if you have a business, or you're an executive within a business, if you're one of the decision makers, so to speak. You should be looking very heavily, I don't care what kind of business you have, you should be looking very heavily at the concept of content marketing, and whether you're doing it and whether you're doing enough of it.

And whether you're hitting all the right places and hitting specifically, your ideal clientele, your ideal customer base.

I talk all about that and the potential of all these things in my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

It is kind of the start, to thinking about content marketing and other ways of how to stand out in your marketplace. So that you won't even have competition like the big guys like Amazon.com. That's where Amazon-Proof comes into play.

If you can be Amazon-Proof, you can be everything, right?

You don't need competition, you can get over it by standing out by making yourself different enough and then getting out there in front of your ideal clientele and getting to know them so that they can know like and trust you.

    That's, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

You can go and grab it wherever books are sold, or you can get your own free digital copy at AmazonProofBook.com.

So let's talk about content marketing itself.

What is it an intro drug for?

    Well, two things.

One thing it is, and it is an entry way drug for information marketing. So a lot of people that are advanced in marketing terms understand how powerful information marketing is.

And really, it's the same thing as content marketing, except content marketing is a very quick, simple, especially the way that people are thinking about today with in terms of the internet.

It's a very quick, simple way to go about doing it, especially if you're doing it consistently. If you're putting out content on a regular basis, trying to get more attention coming back to you, and your company, or your cause, or your nonprofit or what have you, your organization.

If you're doing that regularly, you're creating content, that content, repackaged the exact same content can be repackaged, and put out there as information marketing and information products, okay.

That's a great deal, because one thing, it produces another income source.

Another great thing is that it's producing another form of advertising that has immediate benefit for the people that purchase it.

Plus, it's advertising the next step in your process, whether that be the products and services that you currently have, or more advanced products and services that you can come out with in the future.

I'm hoping you're following all this.

  • Creatively Drained, While Doing Content Marketing

Some thoughts on idea starters when you feel creatively drained.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7c0JZ5qVnw

    Transcription

Creatively drained while doing content marketing.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

It's very common, and I think it depends on how much you're doing, how often you're doing it and how well organized, the whole process is. But if you're doing content marketing on a regular basis, and you go through a whole lot at once, more than you're used to, it can be draining.

You could just feel like, like I did all this stuff, and you just, you need to unwind, or you need to recharge, different people recharge in different ways.

So we talk a lot about content marketing for business owners, and executives of businesses. And then whoever is working on your content marketing, you got to realize, especially if they're doing it on a daily basis, they're not always going to be prime.

And so you have to have things organized to be able to work around it, one thing you could do is, there's a handful of ideas that I could come up with off the top of my head, one thing you can do is have material that's all ready to go, that is not time specific, that can be plugged in when that person is not at their prime.

And so that's an availability you have that you also have the availability of easy topics.

So if you're doing anything similar to what we do on a nightly basis, here, I tend to keep a pile of books, or I have a handful of books that have so much in them that I can pick them up and just grab something randomly.

I mean, here's a book, this is a I probably shown this to you before, this is 2,548 Wittiest Things Anybody Said.

And I could just grab something out of here, and usually run a story out of it, or a lesson about it or something like that, that we can tie back to what we discuss here.

But I mean, there's just sometimes it's difficult. It's really difficult, and hopefully I don't show it too much here. But there are certain nights when I just got nothing.

I mean, tonight was pretty close to that, and I'm doing okay, right now.

But when I first started, I'm like, wow, why am I so drained?

I looked at my schedule. Really, since Friday on I've been kind of on a creative dump in terms of working with different people and coming up with new ideas.

And in my mind has been racing, ever since probably even while I'm sleeping in terms of contemplating all the all the ins and outs and possibilities that wears on you, eventually you get to a point to where it doesn't go anymore.

You've got to step step back step away from it, you have to consider that if you're the one producing the content, if you're not the one producing the content, you have to consider that that person is going to reach that point, eventually, especially if they're doing it consistently.

So I definitely recommend consistent content, but you have to watch the human element, whoever is in charge of making it realize that they're not always going to be on the top of their game.

In fact, they all go lame at some point, somebodies attention, and creativity is going to want to go in a completely different direction than where you want them to go. So you have to keep an eye out for that, and you've got to expect it. It's just part of the part of the nature of the beast.

But I've always got things that is that are always available.

    Three big adventures.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today, I am not going to spend a whole lot of time promoting my book, which I do on a daily basis, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business. Watch basically any of my videos from this year, and you will get a link going to a place where you can get a free copy of it AmazonProofBook.com.

But I'm not going to promote that a lot today, what I am going to do is spend my time promoting three other big ideas, three possible adventures that you and I can go on together.

None of it, you may not qualify for any of them. But if any of these sound interesting to you, then it wouldn't hurt for us to be able to talk about them.

And there are three different things that I have never promoted here before that I have. I may have hinted at here and there. But in general, I've These are three brand new offers.

They're not offers to purchase anything. These are offers to get involved in something new. And there are three areas that some of them aren't completely brand new. And I kind of hinted at some of them yesterday.

Let me start off with the first one.

And I'll tell you a little bit about the type of person I'm looking for. And then we can go a little bit more deep in depth.

The type of person I'm looking for for for this area is I am looking to team up with people on a very long term project that has to do with these videos that you're watching here.

Everything that we well most of the things that we do over at Brian j pombo comm which is promoting business via business growth strategy, showing people how they can stand out in in business specifically, but also if they have causes, nonprofits, organizations, other things that they're looking to stand out for.

And it's it's long term in the fact that in the next two years, I expect to grow really quick with it.

But in the short run, your role will be limited until we have more use for whatever your specialty is, and most people are not going to fit in this position.

But I'm looking to have conversations with as many people as possible, who are interested in what we're talking about here, who may have a different set of skills or conation level that I have, I'm a very high quickstart if you know anything about the Kolbe Index.

So I'm looking for people that cover the spectrum on that to be able to team up with and so if any of that sounds even the most slightest bit interesting to you, or you want to find out more.

Which is really what it comes down to would what our conversation would be about then I want to have a conversation with you go to BrianJPombo.com/teamup.

All one word team up t e a m up for those of you listening on audio, but it's BrianJPombo.com/teamup go there, though, should be a form there that you can fill out real simple, and we'll set up a time to talk.

That's first thing that is the first adventure that you can possibly go on with me into the future. I'm just tossing this out into the ether to see if there's any interest w...

  • Curiosity Can Fatten Your Wallet

Things be happenin' over here in BJP land, and Brian spends some time to share a little about what's going on.

    Transcription

    Curiosity can fatten your wallet.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

While my hair is all over the place, I'm looking at it. Oh, well, you know, it's, it's late tonight, this is a recording this on a Monday night. Had a great day. gotta talk to some great people today, some really inspiring people, and nothing ever wrong with that.

I wanted to go into a deeper conversation with you about some of the projects I have going on, and see if there's just an a mild interest among my viewers and listeners.

And there are actually three projects, and I'm going to tell you a little bit about them real quick.

But first, I want to talk about curiosity. And it goes by a whole bunch of different names.

People have different ways of explaining it, but there's something about the ability to make your audience a little curious about something, the way to withhold information.

It's like having a missing puzzle piece, and it just drives human beings absolutely nutty, it's a dirty trick. It's a horrible, horrible, dirty trick. But it's relatively painless, and it's not the worst thing in the world.

But it is a trick, and it does work. And it's a great way to be able to take something, you withhold something from your audience in some form or fashion.

If you're a business owner or executive, you could do this within your marketing, you can hold things back, you can string things out, you can add more intrigue.

That's another word that gets bandied about a lot, yet add intrigue into the process of marketing, so that people aren't expecting to get it all at once.

You see, it's those quick little commercials that try and sell you in 30 seconds, or 15 seconds, they're trying to sell you real quick, and they want you to buy, buy, buy, that always feel like it's a bit too much, you know?

Oftentimes they'll feel like and that's why they have to be something kind of quirky and something kind of funny and something kind of a quick buy.

But if it's something that requires a little more and requires a little more attention or requires maybe a larger investment, you've got to extend the process along where you're telling the story where you have time to be able to unfold the story behind the sale, in a sense.

And so this can be done via email, this can be done via video, this can be done, I mean, there's a million different ways that you can do the exact same thing.

But if you're able to extend things along and you're able to stretch it out a little bit, it builds curiosity, but it's because there's a longing for what you're building up to. And there's a way of doing it, and there's a way not to do it.

We can get into all the details, but that would be a bit too much.

I'm going to I'll probably be I'm going to use curiosity a bit here.

But to tell you that I'm going to I'm going to play more and more with this concept over time and talk more and more about it. So I want you to subscribe, I want you to come back and watch and listen on a regular basis. If you enjoy listening more, go via the podcast route.

We've got audio versions of all of these episodes on podcast, you can go and listen to it if you'd rather watch. If that keeps your attention a little better,

  • Success Is An Inside Job | Eric Hoffer & The True Believer

Thoughts on the late Eric Hoffer and thoughts on success and failure.

    Success is an inside job.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Tonight, I wanted to discuss with you a little chapter out of this book. And if it looks like I have lipstick on, I don't I've had to put some chapstick on my lips because they're chapped from being out in the elements today. And so I hope it doesn't distract too much from my presentation, my bright red chapped lips.

I also want to thank a lot of the people I got to hang out with today. I got to meet some viewers that view and listen to the show. Just love to say hi to David, and who's a local person and also to Jack, old friend, and really happy you guys join me here.

This is one I think you guys will get a kick out of if you haven't seen this book, or heard of Eric Hoffer before, this guy is very interesting to read.

For one thing he had an amazing life.

He was a blue collar worker, and then he would go home at night and write these incredible books and articles and things of this sort. Here's about the author Eric Hoffer was self educated, he worked in restaurants and as a migrant field worker and gold prospector.

After Pearl Harbor, he worked as a longshoreman in San Francisco for 25 years, the author of more than 10 books, including, The Passionate State of Mind, The Ordeal of Change, and The Temper of Our Time.

Eric Hoffer was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1983, Presidential Medal of Freedom 83, that would have been Reagan that gave it to him. So that's pretty interesting. I never heard that.

I wanted to read a quote out of this because it plays back into business. And so often, most of the issues I've found that we really get caught up in for long periods of time as business owners, as executives as the people running the show, right?

We get caught up in this situation where we're not thinking clearly on something, and it oftentimes comes back to this very same point over and over.

And that's, we're not realizing that the responsibility is right here it that the solution is going to come from up here, not from your thoughts and from your brain and from you calculating everything out. But that little inner voice that kind of shows you the right way ago, you know that that intuition that we all have, that leads us in the right direction, right. And this is what this is all about.

Oftentimes, you can always feel this way, when you're feeling like it's their fault, it's their fault, it's their fault that this isn't happening, or that this horrible thing is happening, that it's always somebody else's fault.

Which very may right may be true. In a lot of cases, there could be a whole lot of blocks and obstacles in your way.

But you need to pull back from that and say, okay, that may be true, there may be all these obstacles and all these people may have these issues, but what am I going to do about it.

You got to have it come back onto you.

So I want to read you this this quick quote from the true believer. It says there's a tendency to locate the shaping forces of our existence outside ourselves. success and failure are unavoidably related in our minds with the state around us. Hence, it is that people with a sense of fulfillment, think it is a good world and would like to conserve it as it is, while the frustrated favor radical change.

  • Relationship Marketing: Are You Taking Care Of Your Network?

Thoughts on reconnecting with people who know you around the time of your birthday or other events in life.

    Transcription

Are you taking care of your network?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live. Coming to you every day, from more than most days coming to you from Grants Pass, Oregon.

I'm here at the headquarters for BrianJPombo.com, and I want to talk a little bit about your personal network.

So today, I sent out a message. And I get this opportunity at least once a year, okay, every birthday period, I have a time when everybody reaches out I mean, huge numbers of people reach out and say happy birthday, on my Facebook profile.

So if you have any type of social media profile, it's a great opportunity to be able to reach back out to people because they're reaching out to you. And you know, having that conversation that's already going on in your customers mind in a sentence, you know, and that not that everybody who knows you or customers, but there are resource, everybody's a resource.

That's not a bad thing, it doesn't mean that you don't love them, and that you don't care for the people in your life and everything. But they're also a great resource, they're your connection to the rest of the world is to the people who already know you.

And if they know you, like you and trust you even better.

But I sent out this message, and it was because my birthday a few days ago, sent out a video just saying, "Hey, I'm going to be reached out to more people."

One of the things that I realized, especially this year, it's something that's for years, it's becoming more and more clear. And that's that everybody you know, is a resource for something.

And that you're a resource back to them for something they may be able to use at some point or be able to get help with. It may not be you particularly but you're at the connection to the rest of the world for them.

And so it's in all of our best interest to stay connected.

On top of all them major issues with social media, I think one of them is it gives us a false sense of connection.

I mean, we are connected more than we ever have been, right?

I mean, I don't think anybody has stayed as well connected to their people they went to high school with and other other groups like that, then we do because of social media. I mean, it's amazing what we we do have some type of connection.

And we are able to see each other's pictures and things of that sort, on occasion here and there. But for the most part, we are really connected with them, we are really talking back and forth with them.

In most cases, we aren't necessarily even getting on the phone with them or having a video call with them. But we can you see it gives us the opportunity, we can start that conversation at any point.

The easy thing is to watch a feed a social media feed and seeing someone bring up something that then you can add something on to and then you can reach out to them based on that concept. It's all about staying connected. And so what I told myself is what I'm going to try and do.

We're just an experiment, we'll see if I can actually get along with if I can build up a habit of calling people on a weekly basis.

    Business TV Show: Generation Hustle.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Wanted to hit this is gonna be a quick, quick, quick one.

I just want to recommend a show for you, I've only seen the first three episodes. I'm watching it on HBO Max, I believe it's across HBO, but it may only be on HBO Max.

Either way, it's called, Generation Hustle.

Go and watch this show, it is all about con artists and people doing something that is fooling other people in a sense, it's worth seeing.

It's one of those things, I was not all that interested in growing up. Well, I mean, you're always interested in the movies where it was the fun con artists, you know, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, or, oh, what's the other one that I can't think of off the top of my head, The Sting, you know, good con artists movies.

But those are just fun little things.

But this is serious, these are actual situations, actual people that have been around for years. And they even have an episode on the Wework scenario that I talked about earlier, in another, another episode.

So go check out Generation Hustle that the thing about con artists, here's what you can learn from them. Anything that can be done for bad can be done for good.

And these people are certainly in most cases, doing things for the bad reasons or for the bad results. But a person who has that type of creativity can just as I don't know about just as easily, but they could work and use that energy in a good format.

And you can pull out so many good nuggets, and I will, I'll get into specific episodes, maybe in a few weeks or a few months here.

Go back and pick out some of my favorite episodes of this show. Because there are so many good gold nuggets.

It all has to do with human behavior and how people view things

The good stuff, not the bad stuff.

Without you know you just messing them over. So generation hustle worth watching. It's one it's an anthology series, so every episode is completely different.

So just make sure and go out and watch that. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

That's all I got for tonight.
