    Are your customers learning?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

You know, it's really easy to get caught up with the day to day of your business. If you're a business owner, if you're an executive that runs the business, it's really easy to get lost in all the minutiae of the day to day grind.

Sometimes we don't realize that we're scaring away customers and it's all because where you aren't really paying attention to whether they're learning what they need to learn in order to make them the best customers possible.

It comes back to who your best customers are?

You knew the steps that they had to go through, if you step back and look, if you step back and have a conversation with them, you know, the steps that it took them to go from point A to just finding out about you to point B. Getting to know and like you and trust you to becoming an ongoing customer, and just eating everything that you have.

There's a process, regardless of what business you're in, is a process everyone goes to from a brand new person that knows nothing about you, to your top number one customer.

How do you duplicate that over and over again, there's a whole bunch of ways to do that. We talk about this a whole lot here on this channel, talk about a whole lot on my website, BrianJPombo.com.

And not only that, if you really want to know, you ought to check out my book, 9 Ways Amazon-Proof Your Business at AmazonProofBook.com, you get a free copy there.

But regardless of that, it a lot of this comes back to learning. Honestly, it all comes back to learning. And you have to think back to when you were in school.

Did you learn best in that environment?

If so, do you think you were typical, or have you come to the conclusion that most people have at some point in their life that everyone learns in a different way?

Some people learn from a book, some people learn better on their own, some people learn better in a team environment.

I'll give you a great example out of my life today. So I got to take my son and he is taking a free week long class in the jujitsu. Okay, he's getting having a free trial where he gets to try out this class for a week, and they have it, they have a going on certain days, you could pick which days or you could go every day to just kind of really get a full taste.

So we're taking him for as many days as we can and he's really getting a kick out of it.

But it reminded me of growing up and being thrown into some sports. And in some cases, there was a whole lot of help a lot of one on one help where they take you from point A to point B and take you all through the process.

For example when I played baseball, my dad knew about baseball. And we had watched baseball, we had talked about the theory. He even bought me that book I've shown on here before that will one on Little League, step by step process, how to do every last step, and how to really understand the game.

That was something that appealed to me is a lot of one on one attention. And I gotta know where I'm going and what the point is behind it and everything else before I can jus...

  • What Can Trump Teach You About Video Marketing?

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump knows how to get attention.

What can Trump teach you about video marketing?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I want to reverse things back a little bit. Right now as I'm recording this, we're dealing with the final 24 hours of the Trump presidency, whether you love them hate them doesn't matter.

You have to acknowledge that what we've just been through has been historical.

I mean, just the fact that this guy was able to come out of nowhere, not complete nowhere, he was well known, but able to come out of outside of politics. In general, he's been running for offices for years and years and years. But in general, coming outside of the general political realm, and getting the nomination of one of the two major parties, and then succeeding into getting elected as President of the United States, is a pretty amazing feat.

Now, I bought this book, this is a book by Clint Arthur. And if you aren't familiar with Clint, he's a great guy for learning about how to become a authority, celebrity authority, a celebrity entrepreneur, as he puts it.

And all of his books are great, a lot of his he's got a lot of great material out there, you can go and look him up, Clint Arthur, he wrote this book, and I bought this before, Donald Trump was actually president.

This is the 21 performance secrets of Donald Trump. And it's worth getting, it's worth taking a look at. And I wanted to point out number two.

Now this has a lot to do with video marketing, it has a lot to do with a very specific area of video marketing, which is television marketing.

So actual broadcast television, actual television that's out there, still being put mainly through TVs, screens, as opposed to just online is still very useful. It's something that Clint Arthur really promotes, and tries to get people to go toward.

And one of the things that he points to Trump's ascendancy into politics, and in like I said, this was written before he was actually elected.

But the fact that he didn't able to get so much attention, there's a lot of examples in here about his campaign and how that propelled him forward. Like I said, you don't have to like Trump to understand the things that allowed him to jump into the spotlight.

And one of the areas here is in the second chapter all on energy, and how he was able to use energy, especially in his television performances, and how you can use the same thing, whether you're doing on TV, or we're talking video marketing, as we do a lot here, even if it's just online video marketing.

There's the three things, three areas that Clint points to here, and I'm going to go through those real quick here with you. And he's got a whole chapter on it.

But these three things I thought were pretty telling, and something that I think anybody can see about Donald Trump the simple concepts, but one of the things that he was pointing out that Donald Trump was pointing out, during when he was running in the primary, the first time he ran, one of the people he ran against was Jeb Bush.

Jeb Bush was the previous governor of Florida. And he called him something like low energy Jeb.

The most important question every business owner should ask themselves.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This comes from a personal story. Actually, I don't know if you can tell from looking there you can see a little bit here and a little bit here that I have gotten hit by poison oak.

I'm on the West Coast here, on the East Coast poison ivy is a lot more prevalent. On the west coast though, one thing we deal with here in the especially in the Pacific Northwest, is poison oak. nasty stuff works, I'm pretty sure pretty close to how poison ivy works, if you've ever dealt with that.

And depending on everyone's a little bit different, some people get affected more, some people don't get affected at all by it. It's certainly an allergic reaction that occurs. And I was out working in the yard and I did this last year.

For those of you who are loyal watcher, you can go back and watch those fun ones. It's funny how it reminded me a lot of my clients and people in general, we don't think about the bad things. Even though we've already gone through them. We don't think about them that much.

Once they're past, once they're gone, we don't think about it. And just like that I was out there working and not thinking about really how bad it was how miserable it is to have poison oak infection. And, and because of that I did not cover up properly.

I figured you know, we're in the middle of winter, I didn't see any a whole lot of green leaves or anything like that. I did not think that just going through some of the old brush and moving it around, that I'd get hit that much the only thing that was exposed were my hands.

I don't know how it got worked all its way up my arms and everything else. But it got me. And that's just how we people are we tend to forget the things that are right on top of us even if we've experienced them before.

Unless they're happening right now, they don't exist in our mind.

So the real question is…here's a question, you got to ask yourself, Is there is there a reoccurring issue in your business?

This is a question that I ask clients when I sit down either previous to sitting down with a more once we're in and we're moving ahead towards their goals, is we want to watch out for the things that are reoccurring.

So what is a reoccurring issue with your business that comes up over and over and over again, even if it's a seasonal thing?

What is a major problem, a major issue that continues to come back time after time again, that you haven't found a way around yet, what is that issue?

    What is that problem?

And that's not as easy a question to answer in most cases.

In most cases we forget what the problem is. We don't even think about it, you know, out of sight out of mind, if it's not happened to me right now it does not exist. And to even if we know what it is we don't want to speak its name for for fear that it will come and haunt us again.

So sometimes that's not the best question.

    Really the best question is,

    Intuition and Business.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

We talk about a lot of things on this show and it tends to, all of them tend to lay in three areas. It's either a principle, a strategy, or a tactic. And today, I want to really talk about a fundamental principle and it's the idea of intuition.

When I say intuition, I'm not meaning anything all that new-agey or anything like that.

What I'm saying is when you're talking about common sense, when you're talking about, you know, self evident when something is self evident, like the Declaration of Independence talks about, you know, We hold these truths to be self evident.

It's just the, the fundamental sense that you have that something is right or wrong, or that this is a good direction, or a bad direction to go in, or whether they go left or right or what have you. Just having that that's, that's intuition and all business. And all life is dependent on how sharp your intuition is. I got an example, an example of that and it comes from my whole life, I've had a clicking not my whole life, later in life I've had this clicking jaw. So it's not there most of the time, but if I'm chewing something that's a little tough to chew or whatever, it gets really loud, I hardly even notice it, my wife points it out.

If I'm around strangers or whatever, they'll kind of look at me funny for eating. And while I'm sorry it's this clicking jaw thing, you know, people call a TMJ or what have you.

And I've had it looked into for a long time, but I always had a feeling that it had something to do with the orthodontic work that I had done as a kid. So I had a long period of time where I had either either a retainer or braces, or retainer braces, and then retainer again, I had to wear in my mouth to get everything just right.

And so the years and years and years went through this process, and a lot of work back and forth, to make my jaw line up properly with my top teeth. And at the same time, get my teeth lined up just right, so that I have this beautiful smile that I have now.

And I'm happy for it, I'm happy that I have a great smile, I'm happy that my parents, you know, just went crazy making payments for my stupid teeth and jaw. At the same end, there's always a feeling like they that something wasn't quite right about the way that it was performed.

I've tried to do research through the years and especially now that I have children. And we're getting to the point to where we're looking at possibly getting some dental work done with them. I've looked, I've really tried to research it and had a very difficult time finding anything that really rang true, that really fit yet a lot of people that were, you know, guessing at it, but I didn't find out anything that was really all that scientific.

It was funny, because a long string of events led us to a an orthodontist in the area that my wife went in and talked to and he does things very differently.

They still go through the process of realigning everything, but they, according to him and according to the people that he's interested in, they believe that orthodoxe up until this point hasn't been done as properly as it can and that they have a different method of going about doing it that's a little more...

Thoughts on the value of systems in your business and a book review on Larry Thompson's, Millionaire Training.

Another reason you need system in your business.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I was talking with a group earlier today and actually I was attending an online seminar where they were discussing a new system that they're bringing about based off of previous systems that have worked for them.

But they're putting into place a new system, a training system, which I thought was really inspiring. I mean, it's really neat to see something like that happen, because you know, you can't lose if you have something over nothing, okay.

And when it comes to system, that's absolutely the case having some system is better than no system. A great example of that is a book I just finished, it's called, Millionaire Training, by Larry Thompson.

And this is all well, I mean, half the book, or the first, the first part of the book, I should say, is nothing more than a transcript of an audio series that he that this this gentleman put out, back in the early 80s.

It was just a one time speech that he gave, that they used to put out on audio cassette and it was used for training people specifically in the Herbalife network marketing business. And the rest of the book is all the stories of the people that were affected by this one particular training series.

It wasn't a huge system that they put into place for training, it was a very basic system that consisted of some really hard core principles and some really good stuff that would help people in any business, let alone a network marketing business.

Well, a lot of these people, you can see some of their photos down here. A lot of these people that speak in this book that right different sections of this book, they went on to achieve success in other places, which is, which is an interesting thing, because it's something I've heard over and over again, people that get really good training in one spot.

If they're trained well, in principles, they can use those principles anywhere. The gentleman that I listened to earlier this evening, he he had worked originally in a in a business, and had gotten a whole bunch of training and never really put it into place right there at that time in that business.

But years later got involved with with a different business, put the training into effect, what he didn't even realize where he had gotten at all until years later. But put a lot of those same principles into effect and became very successful and is successful to this day because of it and that's inspiring.

But it's one having a system can do and it's not just a training system, but any type of system, any type of knowledge base, or way to do something within your business that allows you to no longer focus in that area, but then allows you to go and do something else. So it runs somewhat like a machine, there's the organic element to it the human, that's always going to be up in the air.

But if you have something to lean back on, that is more stable, or that can be more stable over time. That's what a system is all about. That's why I teach and work with all of my clients to become very, very system based to make their as much of their business system based as possible and it can't all be system based, there's human element to it.

    Building A Story Brand - A Review.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm going to be reviewing this book and I'm going to be breaking an unspoken rule that I try not to review a book until I'm at least close to being finished with it.

But this is one I'm going to make an exception on, because I already liked it enough that there's really not much more that can happen in this book for me to be unhappy with it. I mean, it's just the overall direction, the structure of it, I already know where it's going before it gets there. It's just getting deeper and deeper into the point that he's already laid early on in the book.

So I know I'm gonna like it regardless of what he says to do and I'll give you an idea of what that is. The subtitle for this is clarify your message so customers world will listen.

And that's what making a story is all about this, something I've always believed in, something I've worked myself on trying to develop more and more is the ability to tell a good story. It's not easy.

It's not something for some people, it comes natural, or they grew up around other storytellers that they've been able to adapt it well. But it's not something that we naturally do.

Because we don't talk to ourselves necessarily in a story form. You know, we collect data and everything else in our minds, and we have it organized in whichever way is works best for us in our own brains.

But it's not necessarily that we don't realize that so much of what we latch on to came to us originally via story, somebody was telling us a story. And that's what led us into an interest. And it's very difficult to get a point across without telling a story. And you've heard all the examples, you know, they talk about Jesus Christ, talking about everything in the form of parable, I mean, just about every one of his major lessons was in a was in a parables in story form.

I mean, just anybody you can imagine, that has been able to paint pictures for people, it's via some form of story, either complex or simple. But it always comes through the story.

That's how we attach to these things. I mean, most of us, especially those of us who grew up during this era, a lot of the stories that are so cemented in our minds aren't only from books, they're stories from movies, most of us, it's ultimately it's the movies, it's the great movie series and the TV series. And it's these fictionalized stories.

But if you pull back from the ones that are the most popular, it's not the fiction that people get caught up in it, you know it, yeah, a lot of that stuff pulls people forward, you know that special effects, the colorful characters, everything else.

But really, it comes down to the story, and the basis of the story, the structure of the story, and the principles that the story is teaching, that we really latch on to the most popular movies out there. They have strong stories, they may be simple stories, but they're strong stories.

He goes through this quite a bit early on in the book, and talking about structure and how you can take it, whether it be a business or anything else, how you can take a story to be able to build up a brand.

And it's so simple the way he puts it,

Figuring out the ups and downs in business.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I want to talk about the ups and downs because one of the things that I've seen is a lot of my friends that are in the self reliance field. So for a long time, and if you go back and you watch some of my original videos, I focused a lot on almost primarily people in the self reliance field.

So people that have products and services that help people to become more self reliant in one way or another. And, in fact, I have an entire podcast that I that we still have episodes coming out on a regular basis, over at off thegridbiz.com is The Off The Grid Biz Podcast. It's not just about stuff that's off the grid specifically, but things that are just different.

It's self reliance based stuff, it's people that want to be different, and stand out and do their own thing from a business perspective. So that's what you can find out more at offthegridbiz.com.

But I wanted to talk about that industry right now, because this is early 2021. We're in January 2021 nd when I first began working a lot with people in that area, well, just since I had started that, that show a couple years back, we had a slump in the marketplace, not across the board, but over a lot of different areas, including the prepping and survival area. That was a huge slump that was happening at that time, a lot due to political situations, and so forth.

And right now, also due to political situations and things that are happening in the news. Everything that is self reliance based is going through the roof.

And I'd love to hear if you have a business that isn't succeeding extremely well, right now, if you have a self reliance based business, because it would be it would be a fun, it would be an amazing thing, because everyone I've talked to on the exact same day, I had some people that I had interviewed, had an auto an auto reply, say talking about how busy they were that they had to have this auto reply on email letting people know that they probably will not be able to get back to them all that soon because of all the extra business.

I have a my wife was looking to order some seeds from a seed company that we've also interviewed on the show. And she said that they they're they're falling behind. And so she was lucky that she had gotten seeds. I think previous to the election she had put her order through.

But since the election things have just gone haywire, they're there, they've just have more orders than they know what to do with. And this is pretty common across the board. I've heard this over and over and over again. If you're in that marketplace, you're on the grow right now your stuff is going through the roof, it won't always be that way, there will be a time where it will start dipping down again.

But be happy that you're in that marketplace. Now, if you're in a marketplace, if you're in a if you're a person like me, I mean, if you're a strategist, I'm a business strategist that plays to that marketplace.

Right now, most of them don't feel like they need a business strategist, because they have more business than they know what to do.

But now, there are sometimes issues where you don't know how to scale quickly enough, or you don't know where to really put your focus wher...

Business movie: A Man For All Seasons.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I got to bring up a movie. That is, I don't think in a million years you'll ever hear someone refer to it as a business movie. But that's what I like doing. I love really pointing to the ones that people wouldn't normally think of.

This happens to be one of my favorite movies and it was different. It's an odd type of movie. It's not a very action packed movie. It's very heavy on dialogue. It's very old fashioned. It's a slow running movie.

But there's a real value to it in the long run. And what it is, this is a story of Thomas Moore, this guy here, who was the chancellor of England during the Reformation that took place in England when King Henry the Eighth kicked out the Catholic Church, and Sir Thomas Moore had an issue with it, but he couldn't outright say it.

Because the way the laws were set up, that he could be tried for treason if he outright came out against it. But at the same end, he didn't want to completely go with it. And so because he was a lawyer, found a way in between.

And what it really speaks to, there's a whole bunch of different levels in this movie.

But one of the main things and I'm not going to ruin it for you, if you haven't seen it yet, but one of the main themes that gets talked about over and over again, in subtle ways, is the idea of how to be very strong in your convictions, how to stick to your convictions, while at the same time not being so stupid as to be loud and obnoxious about them, in order to put yourself and your family in harm's way.

Which is an interesting concept, especially nowadays, when a lot of people want to be as loud and, and outrageous with their opinions as possible and you just don't know where that's gonna lead.

Nowadays, things are things are crazy, you know, there's people on all sides that are that don't want you to have the opinion that you have, I guarantee it, regardless of what your opinion is, I guarantee there's people that don't want you to have it. And in power they may keep you from having it or keep you from expressing it.

And there's a time and place for everything, not that you shouldn't express your opinions. But at the same time, you have to consider all the options on the table and know when the right time and the wrong time is to say things and also be willing to face it when when you when you're really being railroaded by government or anything else.

That's a lot of what goes into this story here. It is a very deep story, it deals a lot with religious tones. But if you look beyond that point, you know, regardless of whether you have a Catholic perspective, or this was the beginning of the Anglican Church and Anglican perspective, or something completely different, it doesn't matter if you can look past the religion, there's a deeper, deeper, deeper meaning there.

And it's the same concept in your business, it comes down to if you can be very careful about how you run your business, and very calm. That's the one thing that this character has throughout the entire movie.

Once again, this isn't necessarily based on pure This is based on a play,

How does Trump's social media purge affect your business?

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

And before you think that I'm going to get into some political tirade one way or the other about Donald Trump…not going to do it, it's not necessary. Because the point I gotta make has goes across party lines, it goes across, even if you're completely apolitical, it's important that you understand what's happening right now and how it can affect your business and how it isn't new.

It really is not new, it's new in the sense that we're seeing some of this stuff more out, right. And the political lines being made a little thicker, in between one side or the other. But it's not new.

So here's the here's the gist. This is 2021 is when I'm filming this. And we've had a situation where Trump is still in office, but in the process of transitioning out. He is transitioning over to the Biden administration here in the United States.

And there was a whole thing about the capital breach and the riot or what have you that happened at the Capitol building. The fact that Trump egged it on, or that he literally inside did it now it doesn't matter whether you think he did or you think he didn't, he was kicked off of Twitter and Facebook, supposedly for doing the same thing.

That he's had long running great relationships with these platforms. There's been threats, there's been blocks and everything else up until now, the thing is, is they were able to completely remove him overnight.

And did it not, I'm thinking not only Facebook and Twitter, but I believe a couple other platforms also did the same thing where they just they purged him. They wiped him off the face of the earth in terms of their platforms.

Now, should they have the ability to do that?

That's an argument you can you can make back and forth. Really there are private company, so they did it and you have a tough time legally getting in there. Because you agree to a lot of these things when you sign up for these platforms now, neither here nor there. The thing is that happens.

Now how does this affect your business, how it affects your business, and you should never, ever, ever put all your dependence on one platform on one area on one place to communicate with people or on a handful.

Because all it takes is saying the wrong thing at the wrong time or saying something they don't like or being accidentally removed completely, which I've seen happen to many people that I know where their material was completely taken off of Facebook, or Twitter or YouTube, and not having really much of a recourse to be able to get it fixed.

I mean, they say that they have, they have situations where you can fix this, but it's not easy. And it doesn't need necessarily need to be your fault for it to happen. The dependency factor is so bad, it's so difficult when you become dependent and think thing is about Donald Trump, he became known as Mr. Twitter, he was known for the tweet, he was known for these things that he did on this platform that he had no control over. He did not own, he took advantage of it.

But that only goes as far as the company is willing to allowing you to let you take it. And they they're not allowing it anymore.

Where you talk to customers matters.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

There's been a lot of stuff happening, okay, we are in 2021, the first days of 2021, the second week, technically, of 2021. And in January.

And what we're looking at right now historically is pretty amazing because what's happening is the larger digital giants are doing are doing an amazing job of cutting out very famous and powerful people off of off of their, their platforms, they cut out. Trump off Twitter and Facebook, I think in the same day, or very close to, they've cut down and cut the new parlor, which is a new social media outlet, kind of a quasi Twitter, they cut it out of the app stores, both within I think 48 hours of each other.

It's amazing times, you know, regardless of where you stand politically, the fact that all this stuff is happening is probably my guess will lead to a lot more diversification. When it comes to online media sources and online platforms are going to change quite a bit.

At the same time, even Amazon.com, which handles a lot of the cloud storage, cut Parler out of their cloud storage platform. And I believe all these places pretty much said it's because they don't police the speech properly on their platforms.

Like I said, I'm not gonna get into whether that's right or wrong, or whether you're right or left, or pro Trump or anti-Trump or pro-Biden or anti-Biden, none of that. None of that's important right here for this discussion.

It's important, but it's not important for right now, what I want to talk about is the fact that media does matter. And where you're trying to communicate with your audience matters a whole lot. And if you don't know your audience very well, you might very well be trying to communicate with them in the wrong place.

I was speaking with a group earlier today, and they were looking, they're looking to possibly get involved in either starting from scratch or purchasing a media outlet. And it's a pretty large one, but one that has both digital and physical media involved with it. I won't get into the details. But it's a very interesting idea.

The real question was, is, are the people that were that they were looking to communicate with?

Are those people using that platform or interested or possibly, in the future interested in using that platform?

I know that that may sound a little odd, but I want to give you some context. So up until now, for the last two videos, we've been talking about kind of the process of how to determine how to go about speaking to your audience, how to find your customers, and so forth.

The method that you use is you focus on first who which is the which is the market. And then secondarily, then once you really know what market you're after, you want to focus on, on what, which is the message, what do you want that market that who to do. And after you figure that out, then you have a better understanding of what the media source should be.

Oftentimes, when people are looking to do any form of advertising or marketing, they'll choose the media source first.

They'll say, we got to be on Facebook, we got to be on YouTube, or what have you and they're not fully,
