What do your customers need to know?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Yesterday, we talked about who, who you're going after and what is the big deal about knowing who you're talking to who you're trying to reach.

So we talked about that a little bit yesterday, go back and watch that video, if you want a little bit of background on that, and why it's so important when you're dealing with the customer process, why you got to start with who, now with yourself, if you're talking about you and your business and your relationship with your business, you got to start with why.

And there's a whole thing behind that we talked about that a little bit yesterday, too. But it when you're talking about the customer experience, you start with who you got to start with who your customer is, first, you've got to know who that person is.

And you got to keep going back to it, looking at it and saying, Is this really who I should be focused on? Is this really, it?

Do I know this person well, and really getting to know them well over time. Now, the second part is what and what is all about the message?

So I've talked about this before, the three main things you need to know is, is what is who, what, and then where and when. Which comes down to your market, your message and your media.

Let's talk about the message a little bit Should we? What it really comes down to what do you want them to do?

What do you want your customers to do?

What do you want them to know?

What is the action that you want them to perform, is it to buy a product?

Is it to get take something free from you?

Is it to give you their information?

So you could start in the long term relationship with them? What do you want them to do is that you want them to go check something out to figure something out to find something out to ask themselves a specific question, what do you want them to do?

That's where the message is, if you're making an offer, you're going to want that irresistible offer, you're going to want that that unique selling proposition, they call it a USP, you're going to want that tied in with it, that's part of your message, if that's what you want to do, if you wanted to buy something, you got to have something like that in there.

But it all really comes down to every time you sit down to put out a piece of advertising, to have a conversation with a prospective customer or client, you got to know what you're wanting them to do.

And you got to take them from where they're at the who, who they are, where they are, what they're thinking, and you got to take them over to what you want them to do, you got to help them make that connection. And it may not be the first time you talk to them. It may be time after time.

Again, you may need repeating messages, you may need messages that play one right after the other, you may have to take them to us through a sequence. Like they say the funnel, you got to take them through a funnel. That's quite possible. But you got to know what that is.

And if you don't know the who the what is going to be really difficult to craft, your message is going to be extremely difficult to craft.

    Who are you serving?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today, we're going to be talking a little bit about who are you serving, if you're a business, if you're a business owner, if you're someone that's looking to promote yourself, or your cause, it's all the same thing, really.

And a whole lot of it comes back to who you're trying to serve. Now, initially, you want to cover Why, why is always the first question, because why is a very personal question. And you got to ask yourself, why am I doing this?

Why do I want to go forward with this plan, whatever your plan is. And that's the best way to really quantify that is go get the book, start with why by Simon Sinek.

I don't have my copy right here. But start with why Simon, Simon Sinek awesome book, it's a quick read. And he kind of goes into why you want to start with why and why it's absolutely important that you start with why.

Now, beyond that, once you've determined kind of your reasoning, you got to look at who you're going to be serving, that's ideal ideal is to find out who you're serving and what they're after.

So I was speaking with some of my friends who run a YouTube channel, and they've been putting out really great YouTube videos. And so it's a case and Natasha, you can go and check them out, I'll I'll put a link below of their YouTube channel. They were talking about kind of where they're looking to take it and so forth.

We got along this subject of you know, who exactly is your ideal audience?

Who were you trying to help?

Who were you trying to entertain?

    Who?

It's such a big question and it's one of these strange things. It's the reason why I have this giant book here. I'm going to compare this to it because I like really strange things.

One of the things I like is really strange, odd books that you can't find anywhere else. And that has to do with really particular subjects. This is an encyclopedia of old time radio, okay, look at how thick this sucker is, this thing is huge.

I could sit down with this darn encyclopedia and flip to any page and find something interesting. I just opened it up right here. There used to be a radio show. That was all on Tarzan. It was Tarzan on the radio, stories of Tarzan. And it's not just stories, these are acted out most of these dramatic radio shows from the 30s, 40s and 50s.

And from the whole English speaking world, and it's a fabulous old time radio, which I am, this is this is a thing that nerds would get. But look at how specific This is, I mean, how many of you would possibly ever enjoy looking or thinking about something like this?

Probably not, it's probably really low.

If I were to try and sell that book, if I were to try and try to get people to buy that book, or buy anything around that book, anything around old time radio, I'd be talking to a really niche market to begin with, let alone someone that'd be willing to buy a whole encyclopedia on it.

So you're talking about a very specific tiny little market. That's okay.

Survive and thrive in business during chaotic times.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

And this is a very special edition. You know, we saw this as a 2021 January 6 and we saw a very amazing display today. That happened in Washington DC, a whole lot of things going on.

One particular thing was people storming a closed Capitol building. And one person getting shot by Capitol Police, and so on so forth. I'm not going to take sides or anything like that. We talked about controversy yesterday and there's a time to, to be loud and proud about what you think.

And sometimes you need to hold that those cards close to your chest. And I'm, it's one of those times, I'm not going to get into that that's a different conversation for a different place.

I want to talk about you though, as a business owner, is how do you handle situations in the outside world that appear absolute chaos, absolutely chaotic. Now, if you don't pay a whole lot of attention to the news, and you don't pay a whole lot of attention to politics and everything else, then you're in a situation where you'll probably have found a way to isolate yourself from a lot of the chaos that goes on around us.

That's fine and good, but the typical person is going to run into that one way or the other a business owner, if you're out there mixing it up with people, you're going to come across it you're going to one way or the other, it's going to find you chaos is gonna find you at some point in your in your business career.

And this advice I'd give to you is the advice I'd give to anyone but I want to give it to you because of our relationship here. I meet with people on a nightly basis here on through our podcasts.

We go through different ideas, sometimes strategies, sometimes principles, but I wanted to really zone in on this very human principle. And that's that you have to keep your head you have to keep going.

Now, just as a quick aside, not to be able to overshadow the principle that I want to talk about. But to pay the bills, go check out my book, if you want to know more about me and my perspective on business, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business, you get a free copy at AmazonProofBook.com.

Now, let me set that aside, go back to the point. It's all about keeping steady, and paying attention to what matters right now in front of you, and not letting everything from the outside destroy that.

Because no matter what, the world is always going to be crazy, there's always going to be something going on, that is going to try to draw your attention away. And sometimes that's important enough that it needs to draw your attention away from your business and what you're doing.

All other times much of the time, you got to keep focused on what you're working on. Because you're doing something here you're changing the world, hopefully with your products and services in whatever small way that you possibly can.

If that's the case, I'm going to recommend that you really stay emotionally balanced. And like I say, you really got to be grounded. You have to be grounded in reality. That's one of our main, our main pillars here at BrianJPombo.com.

So I've read this one before I believe on on our chats.

I think this is a great time to read it again.

Do you use controversy in your business?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'll set the scene for you, okay.

This is we're currently in January of 2021. Technically, it is the fifth, tomorrow is the sixth, we're coming up. By the time you see this, it may already be the sixth, seventh and beyond.

And the reason why I'm bringing this up is because there's a lot of controversy brewing. There was a whole lot of controversy around the 2020 elections in November, and still a whole lot of arguments about who actually won the presidency.

So you've got loads hordes of people going to Washington, DC, and the other places around the world, throughout I mean, they're they're going to be marching here in town, they're going to be marching at all the different capital cities and so forth.

All in support of President Trump against the what appears to be the incoming president of Joe Biden. And there'll be people counter protesting those protests and everything else.

At the same time, there's all this controversy going on about how they're actually going to count the electors ballots, as they see them coming in.

You know, do you count the alternative ones that were sent in from different states?

You know, do you send it back to the states for them to determine which ones they should choose the legislature's in accordance with the Constitution, all this stuff?

So lots of craziness, lots of controversy. And I can go on and on about what all that means.

But here's my question to you, when situations like this come up, and they come up a lot in America nowadays, do you use controversy in your business?

Do you use it as a chance to reach out to your customer base?

Maybe you send out emails, maybe you have a newsletter?

Maybe you do video chats like this, or use any type of social media?

Do you take events of the day that have a controversial charge, and use it to your advantage?

Now, it doesn't necessarily mean that you take a side, but it doesn't mean you don't either. You can take a side if you think that, that it is going to especially if it's going to help your business.

And if you think it's going to play toward your customer base, and you don't mind really turning off a huge portion of people out there, you will turn on a whole lot more people just by bringing up your opinion.

But even if you don't bring up your opinion, can you take the controversy of the day and compare it back to what you're trying to basically sell? You know, whether it be product services? or what have you?

Can you use controversy to at least initially get attention to at least have that hook to bring people in to start talking about that, bring them into the conversation that you need to have to talk eventually, about what it is that you're trying to get them to do? whatever that may be. So hopefully that makes sense.

And you say, well, should you use controversy?

Where I'm well, yeah, I just did I just use it, if I wanted to be much more timely, I can put an actual headline that has to do with the news it...

Have you ever made a business friend on purpose?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Tonight, I had a great experience. I'd like to thank my friend Joe, who's also a viewer Joe Costomania and his fine family came in through town. They were heading up to Seattle, he's from Hanford, California, they went up to Seattle and back, and they made this big long trip and they stayed here in town.

And they came out and hung out with the family for this for tonight and brought food and everything. So it was great. I've known Joe, since we were in the third grade, okay.

And is he has always been there. I mean, like always, like we didn't even, we weren't even like best friends right off the bat, it was just one of these things where we had known each other through grade school.

I moved away for two years, but then came back. But we knew each other through grade school, we got to know each other better and better year after year, we knew each other, we went to the same high school.

So we knew each other all throughout high school and hung out quite a bit. And then afterwards, even after high school, we spent a lot of time together. It was one of these things where we never quite lost track that every couple of years we'd we'd go we'd go quite a while without talking to each other.

But other than that we've always kept track of each other. And it's just been one of those things that's just endured. And it's never been one of these things that has been forced, or, you know, there was never a need for it. It was just a friendship that happened. Most friendships happened by accident. And that's what reminded me about what I want to talk about today.

Because I have a question for you.

And it's a very interesting question, Have you ever seeked out a relationship to have with someone a business based relationship on purpose?

    Have you ever done that?

All the best things happen by accident?

We know that but have you ever tried to do it on purpose?

Have you ever seeked someone out either as a mentor, or a guide, or an advisor, or somebody that you can work with directly, possibly a partner, somebody that you can discuss things, but you went out of your way to get in touch with them and befriend them, and attempt to basically bring them into your circle?

And kind of insert yourself into their circle in a sense?

Have you ever done that and how did it turn out?

I'd love to find out from the people that have done that or if you haven't done that, why haven't you done that?

    Have you ever considered it?

Do you think that it's fake?

Do you consider that kind of networking and kind of pushing yourself on people?

I'm curious what you think, especially if you're not wanting someone from a person other than advice, if you're wanting to be friends, for a business relationship, or at least for conversation?

    Have you done that?

Leave a comment down below because I'd love to hear more about that I have seeked people out specifically on business iss...

Successful business, but competition slowing you down?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is not a story I haven't heard before. This is one that I hear all about all the time.

And I'll tell it to you and you tell me if it's close to where you're coming from. You've had a successful business, you've had an adventure story, that if you can draw it out, you probably make a good movie, right?

    You started out from nothing.

You worked your way up, everyone told you it wouldn't work. Nobody helped you, or very few people helped you, those few that helped you are the heroes of your story, your guides that have brought you to the place that you're at, and you've been successful, you've been able to make something out of nothing.

And you've made a lot of good friends along the way, you've left behind some people through the process. But throughout all of that, you survived, you survived and thrived. And you've done well. Here's the point which are out right now.

You are a successful business person, you have a successful business. But you can't figure out how to break out and go beyond that. How to go literally to the next level. Right? That's where you're at. That's your position you're in. here's, here's the only way I know out of it.

The only way I've ever seen a person build themselves out of it, is you have to bring someone else on your team, you have to bring somebody that has perspective enough. Because this perspective isn't isn't magical. The perspective actually isn't some great wisdom that you're missing.

You've got everything you need you got from where you were, to where you're at right now, based purely on your guts and your ability to grind it out and make it happen. What you're missing right now is the ability to get back into here into your own head and find what the next step is and it's mainly, most of the time, it's an issue of too much going on.

You're responsible for too many things, there are too many moving parts. And your focus is being taken in the wrong direction. You need help in being able to determine what the proper direction is for you.

What pieces you need to delegate, offset and organize. That's that's the real issue that you're having. most business owners when they get into this spot, this is where they're facing.

You need to find somebody that can help you with that. If you don't know if you know somebody or you think you know, someone that might know someone, go and grab that person as quickly as possible, make 2021 if you're watching this this year, make 2021 year year make it happen for you.

Don't let all the outside forces and everything that's going on the politics that COVID-19 and everything else that's happening. Don't let that get in your way. The outside forces didn't stop you from getting this far.

Don't let them stop you from going further. Get it done. Find somebody that can help you. Now why am I talking about this because I happen to be one of those people that can help in these specific situations.

This is my specialty. What I do is I've got a thing called the Worthington Method.

We can take you through that process.

And the Worthington Method isn't a step by step in terms of you do this and then you do this.

Some thoughts on Customer Lifetime Value

    Amazon-Proof Your Business https://brianjpombo.com/amazonbook/

    Transcription

    How to keep customers forever.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm not saying you need to train him like a little trained monkey. But customers are something that you do want him to be around for as long as possible, right?

There customers, clients, followers, parishioners, whatever. You want them to be around forever, if you can. So how do you go about doing that?

The main way to go about doing that is creating a connection. Crane as much of a one on one connection as is possible, creating some type of belonging situation. Now, this is a concept that I talked about in one of my chapters and, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business, you get a free copy over at AmazonProofBook.com.

And I go into more into depth on how that works. But it's all about the process of belonging. And belonging is about connection. It's about communication, it's more of an emotional thing. It's not the type of thing that most people even recognize in themselves that they have. But it's there, it's there. And the the thing that is the reason why the people that do it the best, the people that really know what they're doing, and and that have that strong connection.

That's why they always find a way to reward and recognize their customers, just for showing up just for existing, you know, and so they'll have, they'll have a Vince, you don't see as much of that, during this filming.

This is 2021 now and we're at the very beginning, we're still coming off of this at while, we're still going through a lot of the whole COVID situation. So not a whole lot of physical events going on. But those physical events are so important to some of these industries.

Network Marketing is one that they don't they have recognition for achievement, but they also the ones that are smart and have recognition just for the people that show up or show up consistently enough, or purchase enough stuff, that that there's value in that. And that recognition creates a nice feeling for the person. And that nice feeling brings them coming back over and over and over again.

But the physical connection, the psychic connection that you have with people, even if it's just over, over an online chat over a zoom call, what have you. That connection is what people come back for. Yeah, they like the product. Yeah, they like the service. Yeah, yeah. But what's more important is the belonging.

That belonging connection is what matters most like I say, you find out more about it in AmazonProofBook.com. Just download a free copy, or go buy a copy wherever books are sold. It's called, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

I'll be back tomorrow night we'll be talking more about this stuff, maybe go a little bit more in depth than that may be taken in a completely other direction. But it's all it all ties together. In the end. It's all about how to take your business to the next level. So we back tomorrow. In the meantime, you get out there and let the magic happen.

Brian reviews new Disney Plus, Pixar movie called Soul.

    Amazon-Proof Your Business https://brianjpombo.com/amazonbook/

    Business movie soul from 2020.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live. I just got to see Disney's Disney Pixar's new movie, which they released directly to Disney plus probably some other places, I'm not sure if you can get them all for free. But it comes along with a Disney plus subscription. And that's the movie Soul. really worth seeing.

First off, if you have any experience with watching Pixar films, and you enjoy them, then it'll be right up your alley. It's a it's a solid Pixar movie for sure. The topics that are handled are surprisingly adult, but my kids watch them, I've got kids, let's say my oldest is six, my youngest is one.

And it kept their attention pretty well too, even though most of the stuff was way over their heads. There's enough slapstick humor and everything in it, they kept going.

So I'm not going to ruin anything, there's not gonna be any spoilers or anything. But I'm going to tell you, it has a lot to do with the mentality. That I mean, as humans, we all have, to some extent, but specifically to entrepreneurs, even though it doesn't, there's no one that's directly talking about business, although there are a few conversations having to do with that.

And a lot of the conversations that have to do with being an employee v being versus an entrepreneur, or going to college versus doing it on your own, a lot of those things get battered around in this movie. And so that a lot of cool ideas there and a lot of different ways of looking at it.

One of the things that they spend a lot of time on is a person's passion in life, the specific focus of the passion of your passion of the thing that gets you going, the thing you're most interested in the thing that you talk about the most and think about the most, the thing that you almost feel like you were born to do, and whether that's really the real thing that you're meant to do.

Or whether that's a placeholder or a description of what you're about, or whether it really is something deeper than that, that you're after. Is there something deeper in your life than merely your business than merely where you're going what your goals are. Are you nothing more than your dreams?

Or is there something deeper Is there a deeper meaning behind what you're doing in life, and it's a great movie to be able to watch during New Years during this time of reflection.

Because I'm recording this story New Years of this new year days, specifically of 2021. And it's a good one to go and watch. It's very rare. For one thing, just artistically fabulous. I mean just amazing what they were able to do with the artwork in this movie, if you know anything about animation and computer animation, they've come so far leaps and bounds in what they're able to do. And while at the same time Pixar is good at really making sure they keep it a cartoon, they keep it that cartoon stretch and feel to it.

That makes it superior in some ways to a live action movie, you could tell the same story in a live action movie, but there's just a value that comes along with telling it via computer animation that makes such a big difference. So worth seeing. I wish I could be more specific at this time. But I'm not going to be because there's a lot of people who haven't seen it. I don't want to spoil it for you.

Happy New Year, for what it's worth.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo. Live.

This will be a quick one, I just want to wish you a Happy New Year. simple idea. It really is, if you think about it from the big perspective, it doesn't really mean anything.

We're switching a number around that has no real significance within the galaxy itself within the solar system within the the the earth and the United States, it doesn't really mean anything.

All it means is we've designated a time of one cycle around the sun, we've designated a date that we all can celebrate that we've gone around the sun once more.

That's it, it's just a marking time, it's nothing more, nothing less. So don't get, don't get depressed, don't get angry, don't think everything's going to change overnight, it changes when you're ready to make a change.

So if you're ready to make a change, now, if you're ready to take things in a positive direction, do it, just go for it. But if you don't, don't worry about it, do it when you're ready.

You know, things are the things going good. We go through this whole process of holidays, I've got all the lights and everything else up. I'll be taking them down tomorrow in tradition. But none of it really means anything. In the end. What matters is what you do on a daily basis. It's where your minds at, it's where you're going within life. And whether you're taking advantage of being alive, and really taking full advantage all the way.

So that's a nice, it's a nice time for reflection if you have time to do that. Otherwise, reflect on and in a couple days, reflect on next week. It's okay, you've got hopefully you have time. We all have a little bit of time here. So take what you can enjoy yourself. don't enjoy yourself too much. Try make a difference. And that's it. That's my wishes for you.

For this next coming up year. 2020 was pretty crazy. I actually, regardless of all the craziness all around us, my life, had some of its greatest blessings during this year, lost a lot of great people in my life, but gained a lot of friends that I didn't have or regained friends that I had long ago and reconnected with. So things are good, things continue to be good.

There's also horrible things happening in the world. And that's okay. Just hang in there.

We'll be back tomorrow. You have a great night. We'll see in 2021. In the meantime, get out there and let the magic happen.

How not to come up with a book title.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I wrote a book, you know, which I talk about every episode, because it's really the latest promotion that I've been doing this year, which is, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business book I came out with subtitle, how to stand out in your industry and make every competitor irrelevant.

Now, I'm going to make a damning confession, I think you would call it. And that is that I don't think it's that great a book title. And I've only had the book out since August, I've gotten it, it definitely starts conversation, it definitely gets things going.

But one thing I've found about book titles, just since putting this one out. And probably a little bit before I even put it out is that the more simple you can make it the more undeniable what is is about, the more likely you're going to have less confusion.

The one thing about this title, it causes confusion with people, because they don't really know what I mean by Amazon Proof?

Now, in this is, in most cases, the best thing is that allows me to be able to start a conversation. So it's a great conversation starter. Because they're like, Okay, so what exactly is that?

You know, are you are you telling people how to have an Amazon based business?

Because that's a common confusion is they think that it's all about ecommerce. And it's not necessarily just about ecommerce. They think that what are you trying to say that they're there, they're going to be able to find Amazon or they compete against Amazon, it always causes a little bit of slight confusion.

The the subtitle actually says more about it than anything is how to stand out in your industry and make every competitor rebel irrelevant. standout, is capitalized. And it's, it's made clear that that is really what this book is about, is about standing out.

And the end result is that your Amazon Proof is that you're making your competition irrelevant, even if that competition is Amazon.com. Now that takes a little bit, it takes a little a couple extra sentences to explain it. Some of the best books out there, though, are ones that get straight to the point that play to a very specific audience. And they either are interested in getting the book or not interested.

But it says it straightforward, and straight out there. And sometimes, as authors, and if you're writing a book, you'll, you could probably attest to this, we try to get a little bit too clever, we try to get a little bit too clever with everything that we do. And I've had to keep continually break myself back down to being more and more simple, more and more clear cut with the things that I put out there.

And one of them is something as simple as a book title. So that's a real simple idea. of if you'd like a copy of the book, it's a thin book, these are not, this is not a huge tome, go and check out AmazonProofBook.com you get your own free copy, you just download a free copy.

If you want a physical copy, there's also a way you can get an inexpensive one there or you can go straight on to Amazon.com and get a copy of the book.

If you don't like the book at all, and you paid for it. Write to me, go to BrianJPombo.
