Today on the podcast we have a powerful and important conversation with Em Anastasi. Em Anastasi is a Gender Equality Advocate, Period Poverty Activist and founder of the social enterprise, intheflow. Em is on a mission to save the planet, tackle period poverty, and transform workplace cultures. Through fundraising, she is addressing period poverty by providing eco-friendly period products to those in need.
Em explains what period poverty is, and how it is very much a domestic problem, as well as global, citing a survey in Brighton where 43% of the participants said they struggled to afford period products each month. Em is really keen to destigmatise menstrual health. Em explains how she created her product and set up a buy one give one format. We discuss the unique challenges of marketing a period product, getting the pricing right so the product is accessible, and the changes that need to happen to eradicate period poverty in the UK.

Do you use Google Shopping to sell your products? Do you know what Google Shopping is?
This week on the podcast my guest is Sara Jones. Sara helps online retailers grow their business using Google shopping through 1to1 ad management and by teaching them how to do it themselves in the Online Retail Academy.
Back when I ran my own product business, I tried to set up Google Shopping, but got very confused and didn’t stick with it for long. That was 8 years ago.
Sara completely changed my mind on it, she explained what is is, all the improvements that have been made, and how to set it up. There are plugs in so you can sync it with you ecommerce website. Sara also shares her top tips for how to do well, how to make sure your ads are performing, and she even has some advice on how to optimise your website so that Google Shopping really works for you.
It could be a great new income generator for you. Let me know how you get on.

Do you have a Gluggle Jug? The iconic jug in the shape of a fish which makes a unique delightful gurgling sound when water is poured from it. It is a beloved product, and was even featured in an episode of The Great Pottery Throwdown earlier this year, where the potters discovered that creating a jug with a gluggle is not an easy task!
This week’s podcast guest fell in love with the Gluggle Jug when shown it by a friend she was having dinner with. Sophie Mahlo wanted to share her love for the jug, and went on to become distributor for the jug in Germany, then Europe and now owns the Gluggle Jug Factory itself. It’s a truly remarkable story of how a German lawyer ended up saving the jobs at a factory in Stoke On Trent, and helped the Gluggle Jug go from strength to strength.
Sophie shares her journey, how she manages a business from afar, how to scale the business whilst maintaining a healthy profit and the importance of valuing yourself, and paying yourself a decent wage. It is an utterly brilliant episode, and I can’t wait for you to listen!

Creating and launching a product can be a lengthy process, often taking several years from conception to market. At Bring Your Product Idea To Life, I aim to provide a realistic behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to develop and sell your own product.
The journey doesn't end with the product launch; creators face the additional challenge of promoting and selling their innovation. Many juggle this process while maintaining other jobs, a balancing act that requires dedication and strategic time management.
This week's guest, engineer and entrepreneur Scott Deas, exemplifies this journey. Scott created Ooshky, a unique whiskey water pourer that combines the functionality of a bulb dropper and a pipette. This water drop-shaped jug allows whisky enthusiasts to add either a splash or a precise drop of water to their dram.
Scott sells Ooshky directly to consumers through his website and Amazon, and has also secured placement in over 20 retail shops. He shares his experience of bringing Ooshky to life, from the initial idea to prototype development and current manufacturing processes. Scott also discusses the unique marketing challenges of introducing a product so innovative that many people are unaware of its existence.
As a startup founder with a full-time job, Scott offers valuable insights into time management, task prioritisation, and the importance of identifying which activities to eliminate to make room for both his career and entrepreneurial pursuits.
Scott's story is a realistic perspective on the dedication required to turn a product idea into a successful venture while maintaining work-life balance.
