As more companies make the shift to open source, users working with large scale databases have been demanding more of their infrastructure. Seeking the flexibility of a PaaS platform has led to the creation of Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) offerings and open source projects such as Crunchy Data Solutions. Centering on creating highly scalable and customizable Postgres stacks, the continued evolution of making database technologies that integrate well with other cloud native technologies has been an ongoing challenge.

The main problem facing customers was how to approach data persistence in a way that would ensure their Postgres database coexisted with their existing stack. Crunchy Data Solutions Data Architect Jeff McCormick spoke with TNS Founder Alex Williams during August 2016’s Cloud Native Day Toronto in a brief discussion on these topics.
