Merry Christmas Everyone!

For today's show, The Brothers in Armchairs are paying tribute to Frank Capra's holiday classic IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

75 years ago, legendary film maker Frank Capra dusted off an abandoned script and fell in love.  He brought in a new writing team and after several drafts, Capra was ready to move forward with the project.  He then enlisted his former colleague Jimmy Stewart as the lead to round out the cast.  And the rest as they say is history.

In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with us as we get into It's a Wonderful Life.

Today’s show is a discussion and review of the 2021 Indie comedy horror Black Friday.
       
2019 and 2020 saw a lot of big studio films delayed or postponed.  As a result, films with smaller budgets or films that would have never been headliners in movie theaters had an opportunity to shine as starving movie goers took to the streamer services who made these films readily available for far less than the cost of going to the movie theater.  Folks were stuck at home, teleworking, and out of options for an evening out on the town, so streamer services like Netflix and Amazon Prime raked in the cash from subscriptions, while HBO Max, Shudder, Disney Plus, and more joined the fray to cash in as well.  Steamers quickly became everyone's staple for movie entertainment.

Many Indie, mico-budget, and B-movies could finally be the topic of any "what to watch" movie conversation.  Without films like Dune, Black Widow, and F9 to compete with, these lower budgeted films garnered much more attention and could make more money than they ever would have in normal times.

Kenny and Del watched and reviewed many of these films, sometimes by request and other times because they looked too darn interesting to pass up.  Films like Velocipastor, Psycho Goreman, Max Cloud, and Zombeavers opened up a new world for the Brothers in Armchairs Podcast and they dove into each one with the same enthusiasm as every show they had done before.  We appreciated the journey up and coming film makers would undergo to bring their vision to life unabated by big studio politics and free to collaborate, create, and innovate by any means to complete their film.   

It's no wonder when our feature film Black Friday came out, Del leaped at the opportunity to dedicate a podcast to it.  Black Friday had the right mix of satire, practical effects, a stellar cast, and an offbeat familiar story to make it an interesting watch.  And of course, the behind the scenes stuff is always worth talking about.       

In this show, we'll do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with us as we get into Black Friday.

Today’s show is a discussion and review of the HBO Max original 8-BIT CHRISTMAS.

Tis the season for us to take a look at this potential Christmas classic.  Jam packed with 80s nostalgia, this film was definitely made to target folks that grew up in the 80s and remember the scarcity of Cabbage Patch Dolls and how every kid wanted a Nintendo NES.  And as the story is narrated from today’s perspective, there’s an added comedic element between the contrast of the wild and unsafe 80s vice the over protective times of today.  8-Bit Christmas was plucked from the 2019 Black List, backed by Warner Brothers Studio, enlisted Neil Patrick Harris as the lead, and hoped to help HBO Max capture the Christmas Spirit.  Did it?  Well, Kenny and Del are going to help you answer that question.

It's Thanksgiving and the Brothers in Armchairs Podcast bring you another high quality, top notch, family friendly, Podcast Show suitable for listening during your Thanksgiving feast!

In today's episode, join Kenny, Arnaz, and Del as they talk about their Thanksgiving memories in the military and one of the best short-lived Television Sitcoms of all time, WKRP in Cincinnati.

WRKP aired from 1978 - 1982 and built a strong following during and through the years post production.  The most famous episode of WKRP was Turkeys Away, which some of the cast credit as being responsible for boosting the show's popularity.  According to BiAP surveys, and other surveys available online, the WKRP Turkeys Away episode is the best Thanksgiving themed TV Sitcom of all time.  We know that everyone has their favorites, but the Brothers felt the Turkeys Away episode is too great not to give it proper tribute.   

The Brothers in Armchairs Podcast want to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving! 

We most especially want to wish our brothers and sisters who are away from their families, underway, or deployed, a great holiday and thank you for your service!

In May of this year, Zack Snyder released his Zombie original Army of the Dead in theaters and Netflix.  As we discussed in our Podcast on Army of the Dead, the long journey for that film began in 2004 with Zack Snyder’s directing debut Dawn of the Dead.  Since Dawn of the Dead, Snyder had been toying around with several sequels and character spinoffs, but his work with the DC Universe put things on hold, especially when Warner Brothers decided they weren’t interested in Snyder’s “Army Verse”.  But along came the support of Scott Stuber, Netflix’s head of original films, backed with the deep pockets of Netflix, green lit Snyder’s “Army Verse” and projects like Army of Thieves was born.
