Today’s show is a discussion and review of Zack Snyder’s 2021 Zombie epic, “ARMY OF THE DEAD” available for streaming on Netflix, rental VOD, and Theaters.

The Zombie genre has been around since it’s 1932 original themed film “White Zombie”by Victor Halperin.  And since then there have been an estimated 538 credited Zombie films.  Fans of the genre have no doubt seen most or all of them and have their favorites, but we think we're not being too bold by saying the most well known director of the genre is George A. Romero.  So you could imagine the outrage when two young and upcoming filmmakers named James Gunn and Zack Snyder made their retelling of Romero’s 1978 cult classic Dawn of the Dead.  However, as it appears to be on Rotten tomatoes, Gunn and Snyder’s 2004 Dawn of the Dead, was met with critic and audience approval, with a certified fresh rating of 76%, thus paying proper tribute to the master Romero.

Since 2004, Snyder has been working on the follow up film.  In the last decade, Snyder has been turning and burning hard on his vision, while being busy with other work projects like Justice League.  And finally in 2021, Snyder wrapped and released his follow up Zombie genre film for all of us to enjoy.  But is it what we expect or has Snyder gone in a different direction?  Let’s find out.

For our Memorial Day special, Kenny and Del interview Dantes Alexander and review the movie Greyhound (2020).

Dantes Alexander is a singer, actor, and model, who was recently nominated for Best EDM Entertainer at the 39th Annual Chicago Music Awards and was also crowned as the Prince Regent of EDM by the LA Times.  He has appeared on Showtime’s “Work in Progress” and “Chi” and has over 114K monthly listeners on Spotify.  Dantes wanted to pay tribute to his uncle, Specialist Thelbert Glen Page, U.S. Army, who died in Dak Lak during the Vietnam war and we talk about his upcoming EP and game.

Next, Kenny and Del review and discuss the WWII naval epic Greyhound (2020) and talk about the longest naval battle in history, The Battle in the Atlantic.  Greyhound tells the fictional story of Commander Ernie Kraus, who upon receiving his first Command, finds himself as Commander of the allied convoy as they navigate through the treacherous Mid-Atlantic gap.  Although Greyhound is a fictional story, it is based on real events and is a good reminder that freedom doesn't come without a cost.

In today's show, the Brothers in Armchairs Podcast discuss and review Netflix's exclusive animated film "The Mitchells vs. The Machines".

Synopsis - "A quirky, dysfunctional family's road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity's unlikeliest last hope." - (imdb).

The Mitchells vs The Machine is the first of many Sony Pictures to drop exclusively on stream for Netflix.  The ground breaking animation of this movie levels up from "Into the Spider Verse".  If this movie is the sort of quality we can expect from the Sony Netflix deal, we are definitely looking forward to them all.

Kenny and Del venture into new territory with their discussion and review of the legendary Japanese ronin film, YOJIMBO.

Released in 1961, YOJIMBO was an instant box office success.  YOJIMBO is the story of a wandering ronin (Samurai without a master) who came upon a small village plagued by two rival gangs.  The ronin assumed the name Sanjuro and plotted to pit the rival gangs against each other by offering his services as Yojimbo (bodyguard) to both gangs, earn some money, and free the town.   

This show is the beginning of the Brothers in Armchairs Podcast’s journey into Akira Kurosawa's filmography.  Kurosawa's YOJIMBO opened the western world to Japanese films and became the origin/inspiration for many film makers, novelists, comic book artists, and more.  For these reasons, the guys felt it imperative to pay tribute to this film through their usual discussion and breakdown.

After being fired from SNL, Adam Sandler went straight into his first film Billy Madison.  A modest hit, Billy Madison proved Sandler had Box Office potential and Universal Studios immediately committed to his second film Happy Gilmore (thank goodness).  The success of Happy Gilmore prompted Sandler to create Happy Madison Productions.  Sandler has been "critic proof" ever since, because no matter what he makes, we must see it.
 
 In this show, the guys will cover history, cast and crew, trivia, and Happy Gilmore's place in cinema over 25 years.  The research involved for this Podcast resulted in an overwhelming amount of fantastic information.  We tried to get as much as we could into this podcast, but ultimately what you hear is a condensed version for a recording session that could have lasted for hours.

April 30th is the one year anniversary of our Podcast.  Thank you for supporting us during our first year.  It's been a lot of fun for us and we hope for you too.  We have a lot more coming as we have started to work on collaboration projects and interviews.  So stick with us as we continue to bring you more new and entertaining content. 

For our "Podversary", we revisited our very first recording, "Episode 1 The Improbable Game".  We never launched Episode 1, so we decided that we wanted to re-record our 1st Episode as we always felt the show content was great, but the quality of the recording wasn't.  So we dusted off the original script, took a polish kit to it, and gave it another shot.  You know what, it was still a fun episode.

Our feature movie today is 2019s "The Hunt".  Kenny, Arnaz, and Del give this movie their best efforts to break down the film in their usual style.  Complete with a few sound effects, this is a fun review!

Welcome to Episode 29 Part 2 of our Podcast!!!

In today’s show, the Brothers selected three uniquely different movies to review.  Each host will lead the review on their film selection and inspire an in-depth discussion on the story, writing, direction, technicals, scenes, trivia, and more! 

As we begin this episode, we continue Arnaz's discussion of 2015's "Man Up" directed by Ben Palmer and Starring Lake Bell and Simon Pegg.  In this romantic comedy, just when Nancy (Bell) has given up on love, Jack (Pegg) mistake’s her for his blind date.  The evening that follows is not at all what they both had in mind.   

In our final movie review of the episode, we dive into Del's pick, "Raya and the Last Dragon” (2020) directed by Don Hall and Carlos Estrada and starring Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, and Gemma Chan.  Raya (Tran) begins a quest to find the last dragon, Sisu (Awkwafina), with hopes of defeating the Druun, freeing her father, and uniting the lands of Kumandra.

As this is a review show, there will be spoilers, especially for a film from 2015.
