Annabelle Betcher was nominated for the Wyffels Corn Belt Award for her dedication and commitment in the classroom and on the court. In school, Annabelle is on the girls’ varsity tennis team, President of her FFA chapter, and is a member of the AQHA where she shows quarter horses. Annabelle enjoys working with coaches, advisors, and trainers that want to see their students succeed. She says it is inspirational to have role models that dedicate their time to help her improve, who have been there for her to answer her questions, and that lend their expertise to help her improve. Annabelle has shown horses for as long as she can remember and inspired her to join FFA. After trying nearly every competition, she learned that she thrives in horse judging and was able to compete at the national level. Through her involvement in FFA and the support of her ag teacher and FFA advisor Mrs. Wetzell, Annabelle has developed more confidence and compassion that has helped her become a well-spoken leader. Her involvement in FFA has helped her understand how deeply the world needs ag. Annabelle is passionate about her future in agriculture, as it has shaped her into who she is today. In the community, Annabelle is part of her school’s Unified PE Class where she connects with students through volleyball and basketball events. She also has a job at a local hospital where she works as a dietary and nutrition student aide and serves meals to residents in long-term care. Annabelle is planning to pursue a career in nursing and work as a registered nurse after attending a 4-year university.

Caleb Gentle was chosen for the Wyffels Corn Belt Award because he shows excellent character and dedication to his school and community. Throughout high school, Caleb has been involved in varsity football, varsity basketball, and varsity bass fishing team, acting as captain for each activity. He is also on the homecoming committee, coaches powderpuff football, is part of his school’s production class, and is in Student Council. To Caleb, nothing compares to the feeling of playing in front of his family, friends, and community. He says there are many experiences that come with high school sports, including football team dinners, pep rallies, starting line-ups, and taking to the field on a Friday night. Caleb knows that when he is on the field or court, he is not only representing himself but also his school and community and is proud to do so. In his community, Caleb is a 10-year Stark County Century Clovers 4-H member and has exhibited at the Stark County Jr. Fair for 13 years. For the fair, he has served on the setup and cleanup committee and helped the concession stand as a youth shift leader. Caleb has also volunteered as a mentor for youth sports camps, served meals during the elementary school Parent’s Club auction fundraiser, and helped during the Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. Caleb knows first-hand the work and heart that goes into successful family farming. He is a fourth-generation farmer who works on his family’s row-crop and livestock operations. Through being responsible for the care of other living things, he has a stronger purpose. From being a role model for his younger siblings to learning patience through new show calves, agriculture has taught him many lessons that he can utilize both in the field and in his personal life. In the future, Caleb wants to attend the University of Illinois for a degree from the College of ACES in Food and Agribusiness Management and plans to become a member of AGR. Caleb would like to start a career in ag lending or ag management before returning to the family seed business and ultimately growing their cow/calf operation.
