Ethan Andresen was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the course, pool, and field. What he loves most about high school sports is how they bring people together. Whether they are talking on the bus, feeling the energy of a packed stadium on meet night, or having a tough practice, they are always together as a team. He loves the feeling of representing something bigger than just himself. Ethan competes in cross-country, swimming, track and field, trap and skeet. He participates in National Honor Society and band. Outside of school and sports, he is involved in 4-H and the local church. He is heavily involved with helping set up the fairgrounds during most of the summer and often volunteers through the church to serve his community. To Ethan, agriculture is more than just an industry. It is a way of life. It is early mornings, hard work, and seeing the land and animals differently than most. It is about the changing seasons that control his daily life and the satisfaction of seeing crops grow from seed to harvest. It is also about the community and neighbors helping each other during planting, harvesting, or tough times. After graduating high school, Ethan plans to attend Iowa State and major in aerospace engineering, specializing in drones and their applications in agriculture.

Brock Conrad was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field and court. What he loves most about high school sports is the competition that comes along with the sports as well as the support. He wants the player next to him to succeed, but he also wants to beat them. Brock competes in basketball and track and field. He participates in the National Honors Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is also involved in the Harrison County Community Service food pantry where he distributes food to community members in need. Agriculture to Brock is more than harvesting crops or raising cattle. It is the building blocks of becoming who he is. The early mornings and late nights going to work teach discipline and work ethic. It took his father around 20 years to build what he has now. This has taught him that it takes years to accomplish dreams, and every day until then is a grind for that goal. Brock will be continuing his education at the University of Kentucky to study marketing while competing in track and field.

Kenzlei Mathews was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the mat and field. While it's difficult for her to pick one thing she loves most about high school sports, Kenzlei expressed that pride is what she loves most. There is true pride in the eyes of her parents, her community, young athletes, and even the bus driver. Representing her school and community with her friends is an honor and an emotional, rewarding feeling. Looking up and seeing the stands filled with people from her school and community is something that she cannot describe. Being able to set the stage for young athletes to dream of playing, in the same uniforms, striving for the same dreams or more, is a feeling of a whirlwind of emotions. Kenzlei competes in Western Boone High School wrestling, softball, and soccer on the varsity teams and plays travel softball with the Indiana Shockwaves. She also participates in FFA, 4-H, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the National Junior Honor Society. In her spare time, she volunteers as a mentor to local softball teams as well as other activities. Kenzlei currently works for a local horse farm, teaches, softball lessons, and, is a junior umpire for young athletes to help her parents pay for her fees and equipment. Agriculture to Kenzlei means a way of life. She said this because her father has grown up working for farmers and taught each of his kids to earn their first dollars by volunteering for local farmers. She did not know at the time just how much it was teaching her. Learning to work from sun up until sundown, walking fields, carrying heavy rocks to the cart, and just learning to work as a team to cover more ground. She applies each of the qualities taught to her through farming to everyday life. Kenzlei dreams of playing softball in college, and although undecided, she hopes to earn a medical degree possibly in sports medicine. She wants to be able to help give back to her parents, supporters, and sponsors for always helping her find a way to make her dreams happen.

Anika Mohrhauser was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the course and field. The thing she loves most about high school sports is the social aspect. There is a wide range of abilities on every team and with that comes respect and humility between athletes. She also loves the support system that surrounds high school sports. From teammates, coaches, relatives, and teachers, it feels like everyone is cheering her on to be her best. She enjoys experiencing how intrinsically motivated she can be to get workouts done or accomplish a goal, even when she doesn't have anything left to give. Lastly, the social skills that she has developed will help her in future jobs as an employee and leader. Anika competes in cross country and track and field. She is also involved in FCA and NHS at her school. Anika enjoys volunteering at middle school USATF Championships in the fall for cross country and in the spring for track and field. She also enjoys volunteering with Angels in the Outfield where she participates in games of t-ball with kids who have disabilities. She also volunteers at summer vacation bible school, able to connect with kids about faith. To Anika, agriculture means working hard and long hours in all sorts of weather to provide food and resources for the good of the community. When she was younger, she used to walk bean fields and pick weeds and rocks on her uncle's farm. She learned it takes a hard work ethic and a lot of discipline to be a farmer and she respects them for supporting their family and country. Anika's college plans are to attend Drake University this fall to study actuarial science and run cross country and track. She is excited to stay close to home so she can support her younger siblings in their running careers as well as cheer on her high school teammates.

Luke Wynn was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field and court. What he loves most about high school sports is being able to compete at his highest level with his best friends on the court or field. He also loves the feeling of celebrating with his teammates after getting a big win in football or basketball. He enjoys seeing his teammates grow and achieve their personal goals as well. Luke competes in basketball and football as the team captain. He attends captain's meetings and is able to show leadership skills after being the captain of his team for the last 2 years. He is involved in work experience where he helps local farmers with daily chores and work. Outside of school and sports, Luke volunteers with his football team to help set up local events, High Five Friday at his town's local elementary schools, and reads to kids at the elementary schools. He is also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Agriculture means a lot to Luke. He wants to follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps and help them out whenever he can. Luke just bought 15 of his own cows to grow his cattle herd. He enjoys learning how to operate new equipment and use tools. He loves agricultural activities and wants to be able to raise his kids on a farm in the future. Luke's plans after high school are to continue working on the farm, growing his cattle herd, and helping his father and grandfather. He wants to improve his family's equipment and land, which will help the family farm in many ways.

Brenna Johnson was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court and field. What she loves most about high school sports is the teamwork, competition, and the rewards of hard work. They give her a chance to push herself while working toward a common goal with her teammates. The thrill of competition is amazing and she expressed that it is like a mini vacation from the real world. She believes sports help her stay coachable and adaptable. Brenna competes in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. She is involved in the academic honor roll, student council, homecoming committee, high school rodeo, yearbook, high school helpers, and FFA. Outside of school and sports, Brenna gives back to her community by volunteering at the Sioux City Library Read to Me program with her dog Kota, cleaning the fairgrounds before the fair, serving community members by offering a soup lunch, Hornick Corner cleaned up and installation of a new sign. She also participates in the Willow Workers Thanksgiving food drive, teddy bear toss, Valentine drive for the Pleasant View Nursing home, NICU blanket drive, sock drive for Socktober, the Sloan Easter egg hunt, and has hosted the Salix Easter egg hunt with her 4-H club. Brenna feels agriculture is all around her. The food she eats, the clothes she wears, the activities that she participates in, and the land she lives on. Her family is involved in a lot of the aspects of agriculture. It’s amazing how everything from sports to daily life connects to this important part of her world. Although undecided on a college to attend, Brenna would like to play basketball in the winter and still be able to rodeo in the summer. She is interested in studying a major that deals with adolescent psychology or sports psychology.

Loghan Nelson was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field and court. The one thing he loves most about high school sports is building a work ethic, which will always be useful throughout his life. He has built a great work ethic from his freshman year through to his senior year. Loghan competes in football and basketball and he shoots trap. He participates in his local Worth County council, FFA, and Hartland Achievers 4-H club. Outside of school and sports, Loghan has volunteered by helping plant and harvest the FFA plot, teaching kids about his lambs at the local AG fair, participating in FFA pedal pulls, helping at the AG learning center during his fair, setting up Worth County Fair for the past six years, and helping create a local judging contest for the Worth County Fair. Agriculture to Loghan means land with opportunities. Every time he looks around him, he sees new things going on. Agriculture is always changing and evolving, which creates different opportunities. Agriculture has also taught him hard lessons such as taking animals to slaughter, while the easier lessons can include watching the newborn animals. These lessons are important because they will be used throughout his whole life. Loghan plans to attend North Iowa Area Community College for one year. Then he wants to transfer to Iowa State University for a master's in ag business, and a minor in ag technology. After he graduates college, he plans to return to his community so he can continue to help the people around him and start a family.
