Carter Degenhardt was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field and court. What he loves most about high school sports is bonding with his teammates and making memories. Carter is involved in FFA as an officer and committee chair. He has competed in the CDE contest, LDE contest, and State Tractor Driving contest. He was also a State Section winner for ag mechanics, with repair and maintenance proficiency. He also participates in the science club, Blue River Fire and Rescue events, and several service-learning activities through FFA. Agriculture to Carter is not just a career, it is a way of life. His family has been involved in agriculture for generations. He has 70 beef cow/calf pairs and enjoys all aspects of agriculture from feeding to operating equipment. Carter plans to further his education after high school and is aiming for a career in agriculture mechanics or forestry.

Lakelyn Sobieski was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the field and court. She loves being able to bond with her team and help each other grow as individuals to then come together as a team. The friendships, memories, and connections she makes are very valuable to her. Lakelyn is involved in volleyball, softball, basketball, and Berlin FFA. She also participates in 4-H as the secretary and is an Unimaginable Hope volunteer, where she does lots of community service. To Lakelyn, agriculture has a rich history of generations because she grew up on a family farm. Agriculture has a significant value in her world as it is a resource for so many things, including providing for families and the community. Lakelyn is looking forward to going to college to focus on agricultural business with an emphasis on communications and is considering playing softball at the collegiate level. Growing up on a crop farm and raising market projects for the county fair has taught Lakelyn the value of hard work. She is excited to be able to move into the future with the ability to further her education and strives to remain in the agriculture industry.

Jason Zeeb was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the court and field. What he loves most about high school sports is being able to compete with his teammates. Playing high school sports has taught him how important teamwork, leadership, discipline, self-confidence, dedication, and respect are to having a successful season. Jason expressed how sports are a way to keep his body in good physical condition and play an important role in maintaining a healthy mental state. The most important reasons he plays and participates in sports are to go out to do something that he loves and to have fun while gaining experience. Jason competes in football, basketball, and track. He is currently in FFA as the chapter president, a part of the National Honor Society, and is on the A Honor Roll for academics. He also participates in the buddy program, where he mentors elementary students who struggle with making friends or have troubling behaviors, as well as the Heidelberg Youth League and TASC (Teens Actively Serving Christ). It wasn't until Jason started attending school that he realized growing up on a farm wasn't considered "normal" or a way of life for many people. However, to him, agriculture is a vital lifestyle and surrounds many in the small rural community in which he lives. Agriculture has allowed him to explore many of his interests. Being in high school and having the opportunity to join FFA has shown him just how diverse agriculture is in the world. Agriculture is his way of life and a passion that he has been blessed to enjoy every day. Jason plans to attend a university to study agriculture science and play college football. It is his dream to further his education and bring back new ideas to the family farm.

Owen Willoby was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the field and course. What he loves most about high school sports is the competition. He enjoys competing against other people and wants to challenge himself to be better in each race. Owen has enjoyed becoming a leader on both teams and likes encouraging the younger teammates. Owen is involved in cross country, track and field, FFA, and FCA. Through FFA, he has participated in the canned food drive, worked at Christmas in the Village, helped out with Food on the Farm, and planned a 5K event that will split the profits between the FFA chapter, and an organization called SCARF (Shelby County Animal Rescue Foundation). To Owen, agriculture is the backbone of American society and is an industry that will forever be in his heart. Growing up in agriculture, he has always had a great appreciation for it. He would help his family bale hay and has worked a summer job for a farmer family friend. In the future, Owen plans to attend Ohio Northern University to study electrical engineering and further his athletic career through the cross country and track teams.

Kylie Mann was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court and field. High school sports are special to her because they offer a unique blend of passion, community, and personal growth. What she loves most is seeing how they bring people together. Athletes can discover their strengths and learn important life lessons, all while having fun and making lasting memories. Kylie participates in softball, volleyball, NHS, Key Club, Teen Leadership Program, FFA, and choir. She is a class officer and Jr. Fair Board Member, a part of the LC wellness committee, leads Tiger Tailgating and is involved in 4-H as club president. Kylie also volunteers at many different organizations and events, including the county goat project developmental committee and the County Council. To Kylie, agriculture is not only about farming but also about providing the food and resources that people need to survive. Agriculture plays a huge role in supporting communities, economies, and the environment. It’s a combination of science, technology, and nature working together. For her, agriculture also represents the responsibility of taking care of the land and finding sustainable ways to feed a growing population, while protecting the earth for future generations. Kylie plans to attend college for agriculture business or pre-vet while playing softball.

Sidney Erickson was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the court and course. What Sidney loves most about high school sports is that they give her beneficial life skills and have taught her to work hard with teammates and develop connections. She has had the opportunity to learn something new every day, just like in class. Sidney is involved in basketball, Close-Up, choir, FFA, Minnesota Honor Society, yearbook, and webmaster. For Close-Up, she is fundraising money to go to Washington D.C. and New York. This allows her to get to take a trip to learn about the government and economy. Sidney stays active outside of her school activities, which include church, Polk County 4-H, state-level 4-H, and the family farm. When Sidney thinks of the word agriculture, she thinks of everything in the world. If there was no agriculture in the world, there would be nothing. On her farm, she learns and works together with her family as a team to feed, care, and manage their livestock. She loves expressing her passion for the agriculture and livestock industry. Sidney plans to attend either North Dakota State University or Kansas State University after high school. She is planning to pursue agriculture business and animal science. Although unsure of her career, she is leaning towards becoming an agriculture teacher to promote agriculture to kids who may not realize how much farmers and ranchers do. After college, she would like to find a stable job and live on a big beef farm to keep her passion for cattle farm going.
