Weekly highlights:
- While US crude oil stocks declined, gasoline, distillate and ethanol stocks all increased on the week with US weekly ethanol production up nearly 17 million gallons.
- It was a solid week for US ag export sales with corn, soybean, soybean meal, soybean oil, and wheat all up week over week. The meat complex and grain sorghum were the only categories down week over week. Export sales of soybeans exceeded all expectations with China making large purchases.
- USDA did not make substantial changes to their 2022/23 supply and demand estimates in December- with one exception, the expected decrease in corn and grain sorghum exports. USDA lowered corn exports 75 million bushels and sorghum exports 20 million bushels.
- Open interest futures and options positions were up for slightly Chicago wheats and up 2% for corn but down slightly for soybeans. Managed money traders decreased their net long positions of corn and soybeans while decreasing their net short positions on wheat.
- US agricultural export inspections for the week ending Dec 8th were down week over week for corn, soybeans grain sorghum and wheat. All were within expectations.
