• This week in the markets – Cash cattle down slightly this week and feeder cattle markets are steady to $4 lower. April 2021 live cattle futures are down nearly $0.60 for the week and April feeder cattle are down $2.30 on the week. The Choice/Box beef price lost over $5.50 this week, on weakness in ribs and loins. The Choice box beef price is now nearly $28 above year-ago levels. Cash barrow and gilts are up $2.80 this week. The April 2021 lean hog futures contract was up $0.40 this week as of mid-day Friday. The pork cutout value is steady this week, as higher belly prices offset lower ham prices.   
• Jobs Report – 379,000 jobs were added in February coming in above expectations as COVID case number continues to decline. The unemployment rate fell to 6.2%. 
• Weekly Trade data – Weekly pork exports have been lower every week since the beginning of 2021 due primarily to weaker trade with China. Weekly beef exports have benefited from stronger trade from China which has increased year to date by 12 thousand metric tons.
