• This week in the markets – Cash cattle were up $1.80 this week. Feeder cattle markets were steady to $4 higher. April live cattle futures were up $1.50 and March feeder cattle were up $.60. Choice Boxed Beef ended the week up about $5, strength in ribs and loins. Cash hogs were up nearly $2 this week. April lean hog futures were up $3.60. Pork cutout value gained $.50 this week. 
• Slaughter – Cattle slaughter for the week was 653,000 head. Hog slaughter was 2.691 million head.
• Jobs Report – We added 49,000 jobs this month. Suggesting slow recovery. The Unemployment Rate fell to 6.3 percent in January. The number of unemployed persons sits at 10.1 million.
• Farm Income – USDA gave us our first look at 2021 projected Farm Income, it is down roughly $10 billion compared to 2020 levels. The lower farm income estimate is due in large part to the $21 billion decline in expected government payments in 2021. Livestock cash receipts are estimated nearly $9 billion higher for 2021, led by projected higher cattle and hog prices. USDA is estimating feed expenses to grow by $2 billion this year. Crop cash receipts are projected to expand by nearly $12 billion in 2021.
