  • Bside incoming: Glenn Astro
Boy are we thrilled to bring you the latest instalment of Bside, this time incoming from Germany! This one is sent in by a true inspiration of ours - co-founder of Money $ex Records (alongside Max Graef - another favourite of the podcast), an exciting DJ, and an even more impressive producer ... Glenn Astro!
Glenn Astro as been behind some truly beautiful musical projects, he is known for his creative and jazzier productions of house. If your unfamiliar with him, a great place to start would be 'Kilometer Disco', on the C-side of his album 'Throwback' where wonkey synths weave in and out of piano chords and saxophone solos. ‘Gemini’, the B2 track of his 2015 release ‘Hologram’, has long been a cherished peice of our Bside collection - a punchy house track full of funky melodies that are sure to tear up any dancefloor.
This Bside mixtape is a taste of what makes Glenn Astro tick : a multi-genre journey of hypnotic and percussive rhythms. From relaxing ambiance to mesmerising bongos, smooth brass and soothing vocals, to downtempo electro and breakbeat, nu-jazz and reggae edits, all the way through to an energetic burst of pure DnB euphoria.

  • Bside Incoming: Waxist
The 4th instalment of 'Bside incoming' (where DJs who cant come to Scotland to record the mix live and so send in their mixes) is supplied by French DJ/record collector - Waxist. As always on the show, the DJ can only play tracks from the B-side of their favourite records.
Hailing from Lyon, Waxist is renowned internationally for his collection of disco/soul/boogie, his slick mixing, as well as his house edits of classic disco tracks. This vinyl lover brings us a selection of the sexiest sounds of soul, a few flashes of club ready house, and a dose of rhythmic funk which is guaranteed to brighten up your day. A special shout out to the second song of the mix: Straight Jacket’s “Greatest Part of Loving” from a re-release on the ever-exciting local label Athens of the North.
Having played at renowned clubs like Lyon’s Le Sucre, and London’s Phonox, as well as slots on Gille’s Peterson’s Worldwide FM, and Brussel’s Kiosk Radio, we at Bside are very excited to bring you one of France’s best-guarded secrets for one hour and twenty minutes of unbridled happiness and energy.
If you are not familiar with his edits, they are certainly worth a check on youtube. With almost one million views on YouTube, his edit of Lamar Thomas - “feel so good inside” is a peak time disco banger. With similar views, his edit of Painel De Controle - “Relax” is a soothing soulful track with some crazy vocals showing his love for latin disco. However my favourite production of his has got to be “happy days”, which must be the most euphoric tracks I have heard.

  • Ep. 17 AISHA
Our guest for episode 17 is AISHA! The Glasgow based DJ and Producer has shown that she's one to watch with releases on Hilltown Disco, Huntleys + Palmers and Alumni Records. As well as high profile bookings at TRNSMT, Kelburn, clubs gigs all over the country and her residency at Lunacy.
AISHA is known for her sets filled with electro and hard techno, but for this episode delves into the records she bought when first starting to DJ. Expect Disco, Freestyle and a personal favourite of ours at Bside, right near the end.

  • Ep. 16 Rhys Gray & Matt Cory
After a string of mixes from international DJs, (Gnork, Bobby Analog & Hidden Spheres) it was time to return to some Scottish talent. For Ep. 16 we invited the Glaswegian duo - Rhys & Matt.
As always on Bside, the DJs were only allowed to play the B-Side of their favourite records. Having only recently started integrating a CDJ into their sets, the pair have an extensive record collection. They take us on a smooth trip, showcasing some of their favourite wax. The mix starts with some breaks & spacey chords, then progresses into some extraterrestrial house sounds, and finishes with some club equip techno.
Rhys & Matt both are heavily involved with @subclub, both in promotions and DJing. Recently Matt was in charge of setting the tone for Harri & Dom, as well as Model 500 for Subculture. They also have a weekly residency at Mr Wu’s Disco Kitchen, where the recording took place.

  • Bside incoming: Maiden Voyage
Very happy to announce that the latest instalment of Bside incoming is brought to you by Maiden Voyage : The radio show, nomadic party, dj moniker and love child of two music fanatics and friends of the podcast.
From their regular excursions into the unknown on Maiden Voyage air waves to scintillating live events with the likes of Kalita Record’s Chris Webb; Tom and James relish the opportunity to unveil new music from some weird and wonderful sub genres, whether it be zouk from Guadeloupe, Soviet disco, MPB from Brazil, South African bubblegum, Ethiopian jazz, Haitian compas, Panamese cumbia, Turkish psych, highlife, or raï.
"If we like it, we'll play it, whatever it is. I guess this attitude has pushed us down different rabbit holes, looking for something unusual or interesting.
The mix tries to bring together some of those disparate influences, with a mixture of €1 bargain bucket deals from a Marseille flea market, original pressings from an Estonian record store, recent reissues, and a Mark Francis record that arrived from Italy in a 12" pizza box.”
As usual, we bring you a fine selection from the B-Side of their collection! So sit back and let the exotic waves of uncharted waters wash over your tiny mind.

  • Bside incoming: Bobby Analog
Our 2nd instalment of Bside Incoming comes from Belfast Dj and Producer Bobby Analog!
The Body Fusion head honcho is one of the most exciting talents in the Irish scene. Playing on the Boiler Room stage at last years AVA Festival, a stellar performance that helped boost his profile to where it is now.
We had Bobby in for a filmed Bside, which should have been episode 16. Sadly after a great set, some technical issues meant the recording was unusable. Thankfully Bobby, being the gentleman he is, offered to record one for us at home and send it to us for Episode 2 of Bside Incoming.
One of the first tracks that brought him to our attention was his track Luvwomanboogie - https://youtu.be/DKRNdYHF1KA

  • Bside Incoming: Gnork
Here it is, ‘Bside Incoming’, our international podcast that showcases the flip side of our favourite DJs' record collections’ who unfortunately couldn’t be with us here in Scotland.
The first selector to transmit their tunes via Bside First Class Delivery is Hungarian DJ and producer - Gnork. He’s been making a reputation for himself with a distinctive spacey breakbeat sound, and releasing some stunning tracks on some amazing labels such as Church, Unknown to Unknown, Magic Wire, not to mention his own label: Earth Plates.
His productions seem to find a strange balance between peak time energy and a soothing ambiance. Here are some of our favourites:
    Blorp93 - youtu.be/uTWZro4mw4w
    No Gravity - youtu.be/-27DdIZjhEY
    Magic Arpz - youtu.be/V9GWo8I7s3A
    Space Jam - youtu.be/UnkErLkUxVc
Gnork's Bside Incoming mix exemplifies his style, drifting through jazzy ambiance, downtempo beats, and floating towards the dark energy that he’s become notorious for.
Expect extraterrestrial vibes with an alien voice to match. Enjoy!

  • Ep. 14 Andrea Montalto (EHFM, Club Mediterraneo)
Watch the episode (and previous 13) on Facebook, and follow to keep up with Bside news
    * https://www.facebook.com/BsidePodcasts/ *
Ep. 14 Andrea Montalto (EH-FM, Andrea Montalto / Club Mediterraneo)
Andrea doesn’t need much of an introduction. The Italian co-founded EHFM, hosts all sorts of great music events around Edinburgh, one of the best collectors and sellers or records in Edinburgh, and in my ears the best at spinning them musical discs in Edinburgh. His Club Mediterraneo nights at sneakys have been bloody silly so they have, always set the place on fire with his worldly percussive italo taste.
His Bside was a chill one, in his words he wanted to play a “Sunday soothing session, ambient library cinematic jazzy Balearic shit". So close your eyes and relax.
Andrea has been in pretty hot demand for his mixes recently... Last week his 6 hour ambient/world live set at brilliant corners was released, and then just yesterday his Rinse FM show from the Sneaky Pete's takeover was uploaded. If you haven't listened to it yet go bless your self
    - https://soundcloud.com/rinsefm/andreamontalto40519.
Go listen to everyones Rinse show from the sneakys takeover in fact, really big achievement, and the mixes that I have listened to so far have been absolutely top.

  • Ep. 13 Calum Sloan (Lunacy, Lezure)
Watch the podcast on FB to see Calum mix them vinyls no sweat, and keep up with Bside updates...
    https://www.facebook.com/BsidePodcasts/
Ep. 13 Calum Sloan (Lunacy, Lezure)
After seeing Calum warm up Jensen Interceptor flawlessly on wax recently in La Cheetah, we to invited him onto the first Bside recorded in Glasgow. As always, Calum was only allowed to play tracks from the B-side of his favourite records. With his mixing being some of the best we have hard, and track selections spot on, Ep. 13 has been one of my favourite yet. (Sorry about the feedback on the mic btw, we were in a new place with big speakers).
Cutting his teeth in Dundee at the infamous Sessions parties at the Reading Rooms, Sloan brought old and new heavyweights alike to the fair city, welcoming Egyptian Lover, Marquis Hawkes, AnD and more whilst cementing a reputation as a killer resident with a rapid fire vinyl mixing style and tastes spanning electro, acid, italo, UK hardcore and techno.
More recently Sloan has held a residency at Glasgow’s most notorious afters spot Lunacy and appeared as The People’s Front in Edinburgh alongside The Burrell Connection and Parts Unknown. As one of the boys behind the Lezure and Pace Yourself crews, he has helped host some of Glasgow’s most forward-thinking bookings while spinning frequently in La Cheetah Club and Berlin’s Salon - Zur wilden Renate.
    Enjoy.
