Trigger Warning: Mentions of sexual assault and abuse.
This episode is very near and dear to my heart because it was the first ever podcast recording for BTWN THE LINES. I was joined by my amazing friend and Founder & CEO of A15 Wellness, Abdul Rahman, who’s voice may sound familiar from by bonus episode An Open Conversation. Reading this book and the whole recording was a Trust Exercise in itself for us and I talk about why some more on the episode, click the link in my bio to follow BTWN THE LINES on Spotify and get updates on episodes dropping!
Trust Exercise is a literary fiction by Susan Choi published in April of 2019. This book was awarded the National Book Award for Fiction in 2019 and received praise from Barak Obama who included the book in his Favorite Books of the Year list last year. This book follows the lives of students in a performing arts high school as they navigate their friendships, romantic relationships and “authority” figures. This book reads a simple coming-of-age story until the storyline is picked up and flipped midway through. We start to see the “truth” from different angles as our perceptions, and truth itself, is challenged.
