Buffering the Vampire Slayer | A Buffy the Vampire Slayer Podcast

This week we're going to the state of pizza, attitudes, malls, and Jennys: NEW JERSEY! Mulder is on a (wild) goose chase for the legendary Jersey Devil after learning of some recent woodsy cannibalism, Scully is going on a date with "Rob" after her best friend told her to get a life, and we've got college professors, park rangers, and VERY loud children also in the mix. Most importantly: Scully told her best friend that Mulder was CUTE. (kisssssssss!) It's Season 1, Episode 5: The Jersey Devil.

LaToya Ferguson gives this X-File a scary rating of 1.5/5 GNAWED OFF APPENDAGES

RUBAAAAAYYYY!!! This week, we will continue to scream Ruby's name at the sky until the extraterrestrials return her to us. Meanwhile, Mulder is puzzling together 0s and 1s in search of his sist— oops I mean Kevin's sister Ruby, Scully is watching Mulder move through the loss of his sist— oops I mean Kevin's sister Ruby, and we all get to hang out at a biker bar and the library. It's Season 1 Episode 4: "Conduit," where we don't have friends, we just have people we like to hang with.

It seems the government is building military planes with UFO technology and our most trusted sources are a very stoned Seth Green and amateur-photographer Ladonna who runs the local diner: The Flying Saucer. Should we heed the mysterious warnings of Deep Throat and stay away from the case? OF COURSE NOT!! NO X-FILE STONE WILL BE LEFT UNTURNED!! It’s Season 1, Episode 2: “Deep Throat” and we are headed to Idaho to wear our Timberlands and have our memories erased.

It's the inaugural episode of The eX-Files, and FBI Agent Dana Scully has been assigned to write field reports on (and become best friends with) Agent Fox "Spooky" Mulder. Our first X-File has us going to Bellefleur, Oregon where the Class of '89 simply cannot stay away from the woods, where Scully takes a bath in the dark and gets some mosquito bites, and where Mulder has a f*cking blast losing 9 minutes of that most beloved of universal invariants: TIME!!! Could it be the stinky alien babies?!?!?!

Welcome to The eX-Files, an episodic rewatch podcast in which Jenny Owen Youngs & Kristin Russo dig into every episode of The X-Files, spoiler free, one at a time.

Jenny grew up watching The X-Files when it aired, but Kristin has only ever seen the pilot episode. (Her review: "hot.")

The podcast’s title — The eX-Files spelled with an “e” — is a credit to our relationship: in addition to being longtime business partners, we are also ex-wives. *cue spooky music*

If you can't wait for the pilot episode to air, or if you just love having a blast, please join us for our Official eX-Files Launch Party on Sunday, March 19th at 7pm Eastern — exclusively on Stage Pilot. Tickets go on sale to the public at 10am Eastern: stagepilot.com/exfiles

As a "special gifty" we now bestow upon you our very first episode covering Season 8 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as written in comic form and published by Dark Horse Comics! We are two episodes into the journey over on Patreon, so if you'd like more you can use the links below to join us!

This episode we are talking about "The Long Way Home" (Season 8, Issues 1-4) and "The Chain" (Season 8, Issue 5), and we've got a giant Dawn, intense Slayer hellmath, Kristin's opinions on what a Thricewise demon is (three Pennywises, of course), Jenny's yearning for the return of her butterscotch hunk, and so much more.

It's f*cking good to be back in... Scotland?

We also have a new #buffy-comics channel in the Discord, and you can also find Scooby-shared links to these first issues (Season 8 is near-impossible to find in print these days) that are downloadable to use on most comic-reader apps!

We did it! We disposed of the body of our murdered lover, made an altar with the head of our dead dog, attended Gloria's funeral, got kidnapped by Triangle Buddy Devotees, and looked SO FUCKING HOT at our 25th High School Reunion!

Meanwhile in the woods... oh no? Oh no. OH NO.

It is the season finale of Doomcoming (and Yellowjackets!) where we dig into "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi".

(Shauna DIDN'T EVEN LIKE SOCCER, guys.)

Our episodes are spoiler-free, so you can watch along with us in real time if you haven't seen the series yet, and each episode will also include a segment at the end called "What's The Buzz" where we talk about some spoilery theories for those of you who have seen the whole first season and who might be as deep into Reddit as Jenny...

It is time for the TITULAR DOOMCOMING, people!!! Let's tell the forest creatures how gay we are!!! Let's trip on mushrooms so hard that we confuse people for forest creatures?!?! Let's scream-sing KISS FROM A ROSE in 1996 and, in 2021, lie to our friends about the motives of our now-murdered-lovers!!!! It's gonna be a goddamn blast.

In '96, Van is alive (again!), Laura Lee is going to get help by flying the Hail Mary Full Of Heroin Plane (oh no), Coach Ben is gay (hot), Travis is being a dingus (sigh). In '21, Jeff is being cute (as usual), Callie can't find Adam on the internet (but can find his ID in HER HOUSE), and Caligula *almost* flies to bird heaven (where he'd have been swiftly followed by Jessica Roberts, but both thankfully live to see another day).

Most importantly: Misty snorts (almost) all of Nat's cocaine and we laugh and laugh and laugh and LAUGH.

It's Yellowjackets S1E8: Flight of the Bumblebee and we really, really, really wish Leonard and Laura Lee were still safe on the island. : (
