Welcome to The eX-Files, a Beyond Buffering podcast where hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo cover The X-Files one episode at a time, spoiler free.

This week we've got men in black AND frenchmen in black, Mulder is sniffing an unidentified oily substance that he's picked up on his ungloved fingers, Scully IS A MEDICAL DOCTOR OKAY, Krycek has returned to be incredibly attractive actually, and we meet the star of the X-Files: Jeraldine. It's S3E15 "Piper Maru," so put that in your piper and... maru it. Or whatever.

The French say GARGOOEY, okay?! Mulder's third (fourth?) daddy figure takes center stage while Scully and Skinner share concerned eyebrow raises, Patrick Swayze gently cradles Mulder as he makes his little pottery, and Scully gets the sh*t scared out of her by a leaping cat! Please, join us on this ride through The X-Files S3E14, "Grotesque." Come for the gargoyles, stay for corpses you can find inside!

Just kidding, these are two entirely different smug bitches who just happen to have been born on the same day and who are celebrating their birthdays with lots of murder murder murder! We've got astrology, we've got Keystone cops, and we've got a sexy detective taking her shoes off in Mulder's motel room while Scully smokes a cigarette and says "Hate her! Wouldn't wanna date her!!" Enjoy our coverage of The X-Files 3.13 "Syzygy" if you dare!

July 30 The eX-Files: The X-Files 3.12 War of the Coprophages
Welcome to The eX-Files, a Beyond Buffering podcast where hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo cover The X-Files one episode at a time, spoiler free.
We hate that you have to hear it from us, but there are roaches simply EVERYwhere in this episode! In the basement, in your buddy’s makeshift drug lab, in the bathroom, in the motel, even in the poop warehouse. Egads! At least there’s a cute little robot to help take the edge off… and also our new gal pal Dr. Bambi. But let’s face it, this is no place for an entomologist! Today we’re talking about Season 3, Episode 12: War of the Coprophages.

July 16 The eX Files: The X-Files 3.11 Revelations
Welcome to The eX-Files, a Beyond Buffering podcast where hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo cover The X-Files one episode at a time, spoiler free.
Since the beginning of the series, we’ve been wondering what the limit might be on what Fox Mulder is willing to believe (if the limit does indeed exist)… and in S3E11, “Revelations,” we have found it. Stigmata? Guardian angels?? A fiery-handed demon?! Sorry, Mulder’s filing cabinet is suddenly at capacity! Scully, however, finds herself Wanting To Believe as this episode barrels down a Catholic-adjacent path and she is forced to wonder if she has been chosen by a higher power to protect a young boy in danger.

Welcome to The eX-Files, a Beyond Buffering podcast where hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo cover The X-Files one episode at a time, spoiler free.
We have returned to the filing cabinet labeled “X” to discuss a Season 3 two parter: Episode 9, “Nisei,” and Episode 10, “731”! Myth arcs return, Mulder’s hair is reaching peak form, Scully needs PROOF and also is ONE OF THEM, and Skinner’s head shines like the beacon of light he is! Oh and Mr X is back even tho he sweaaaars he cannot get involved, Cigarette Smoking Man smokes, and the train conductor wins the the award for best FBI agent in the series despite not being one.

June 04 The eX Files: The X-Files 3.07 The Walk and 3.08 Oubliette
Welcome to The eX-Files, a Beyond Buffering podcast where hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo cover The X-Files one episode at a time, spoiler free.
An episode we didn’t like at all and episode we kinda liked, actually!! Together in one pod we’ve got thoughts on “death by boiling” (sorry), child kidnapping (WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS, X-FILES), and perhaps most importantly why Kristin has started to like (some of) this show despite how often she has to yell at it?!

It’s Season 3, Episodes 7 “The Walk,” and Episode 8 “Oubliette.”

PS: A Correction! When Kristin said that Emily St. James wrote X-Files Confidential what she ACTUALLY MEANT was Monsters of the Week.

Welcome to The eX-Files, a Beyond Buffering podcast where hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo cover The X-Files one episode at a time, spoiler free.

Apart from Kristin learning more about flies and maggots, nearly everything else that we have to wade through in this episode is wildly problematic! In between racist wardens and horrible prison systems we find a tale of reincarnation (or, transmigration, perhaps?) that is confusing enough to leave even Mulder and Scully confused by the end of the episode. At least Bokeem Woodbine is here! Wheeeeee! It's Season 3, Episode 5, "The List."
Producer LaToya Ferguson gives this episode a scary ranking of 1.15/5 You Know, It Just Doesn't Make Any Sense...s
