Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

Subscriber-only episode

There are quite a few stories going on simultaneously this week, but Weevil and that teacher, who's in the credits for some reason, got the week off. We dive a bit deeper into Duncan's deal, but mostly we learn how brave his is with his iPod at the pool. Stacey definitely saw Saltburn, and Bryan needs to know how you feel about his Malcom in the Middle mashup theory. Plus Kurt's got some major main character energy in this one.

White boys are poppin' up like prairie dogs, and nearly start a race war. There seems to be less sexual tension between Veronica and her dad this week, but she's still got pretty questionable taste in men. We've learned a few names! Well... not the new guy. He's Doobie for now. There's just so many scenes! We think we covered them all, but if we think of more, we'll call you at 1:00 am.

The writers of this show certainly have an interesting perspective on daddy/daughter relationships and how close adolescent siblings are. Is that video tribute to the dead girl scene weird, or are we just old? We predict a future romance we think was obvs from the begins. And Bryan doesn't seem to know the difference between and RA and an RN.

Seriously, do check out the shoebill, and stay to the end of the video to hear the weird sound they make.

**TW:SA** Welcome to Neptune.... Califorrrrniiiia maaaybe?.... where the bullies are too old, the sheriff is too young, and the net is all the rage! There is a lot to set up in this episode, and sometimes they even set things up twice! We promise we'll learn the characters names eventually, but for now you'll have to settle for Duct Tape, Bong Boy, and the bald hog man. And we know it's only our first episode, but this one already gets a little loooosey goooosey.

**TW:DA** A girl orders Chinese takeout for lunch, and the whole school goes bananas, resulting in a very heated student council election. We meet Logan's dad, while Duncan's dad encourages him to stop being such a listless husk. We were clearly confused by the significance of the shoes, but after reading a summary, Stacey thinks she was right. And maybe we'll give YOU $100 if you can guess the celebrity whose sister Bryan had a crush on.

Bunheads Episode 3 "Inherit the Wind"/Firefly Episode 3 "Bushwhacked"

Uh oh! Our lead characters have gone and gotten themselves arrested for being somewhere they shouldn't be. Also both of them spend this episode acquiring property from the recently deceased and discovering strange men in the homes they invited themselves into. The Serenity crew discovers a bunch of dead bodies, which somehow have way less of a stench than the mac n' cheese Boo's mom made. Both Boo and Malcom are forced into being in front on their quests to get the bad boy, and Bryan shares his version of a classic movie he's never seen.

Firefly Episode 2 "The Train Job"/Bunheads Episode 2 "For Fanny"

Lots of similarities this week including one very obvious one. We're treated to the same guest star in both episodes, playing two very different characters. There's also a smaller connection, in that Firefly's location of the week has a very similar name to the setting of Bunheads. We've got charcters who are feeling kind of useless, trying to figure out their next move. We've ladies in both episodes casually doing a friend's hair. Oh, and don't forget the implied dismemberment. Plus we had another recent movie-going experience ruined by an old woman!

Bunheads Episode 1 "Pilot"/Firefly Episode 1 "Serenity"

We started two new shows that were cancelled too soon, created by the same people as the other shows we used to talk about, and boy do they both loooove to reuse actors. New shows mean new names for Bryan to learn, and you'll be unsurprised to find out he is NOT good at it. The similarities are slim so far, but we're sure Amy's buried some for us to find down the road. Both shows do feature people stuck together trying to figure out their next move, someone revealing a financially motivated choice, and also death!? And we hope you enjoy our NEW special segment!

Our last Gilmore Girls episode was getting a little long, so we decided to record another one to wrap some of our lingering Gilmore thoughts. We discuss who we think Rory should end up with, including the completion of Bryan's teased thoughts on Jess and Rory. We break down the final four words and our feelings on the ending. We pitch some ideas for what the show might look like if they were to ever make more. Stacey reads some of Bryan's predictions from previous episodes, to see how close he was. And... we reveal what shows we'll be watching next!

• Here's more information on Amy Sherman-Palladino's new show, Étoile.
• Here's one of those Pitch Meeting videos we were talking about.
• And here's our cheese TikTok we referenced.

Well friends, we've reached the end of the Buffy Season 8 comics. They started off a little weird, then got so much weirder and more pornographic than we ever could have imagined. Buffy's straight-up a super hero now, though we're still not sure we understand why. You'll be happy to know, Giles' horses are still in the picture, though who has them might surprise you. Much like the last episode of A Year in the Life, a lot of old familiar faces show up. Joss writes everyone a little apology letter at the end, and Stacey tries out a bunch of new voices!

If you want to follow along,  here's a list of the Buffy Season 8 comics. Stick to the titles and skim past the bodies of text if you're trying to avoid spoilers.

Comics covered in this episode include: Season 8 Issues 31-35, the Riley issue, and 36-40.
