Today I decided to record my weekly podcast in my car on the way to court. It's a place I spend a lot of time and I thought I'd tell you how I use that time to make quantum leaps with my business.
Marketing a Law Firm is an Ongoing Process
Marketing your law firm never stops. If you aren't doing something to actively create business, you should be thinking about and planning a way to do something.
That's where the car comes in. Most people spend their time in the car, or in the grocery store, or walking their dog listening to the radio or generally just vegging out. Why not use that time to learn more about how to make your law firm kick all the other law firms' asses?
Podcasts Can Greatly Increase Your Business
You already know this because you listen to my podcast, but there is a ton of great information out there you can get at the touch of a button streamed right into your brain - and most of it is free! Why not settle in for a long drive with a list of podcasts to listen to instead of jamming to Justin Bieber?
The Details
I have an iphone and use the Downcast app ($1.99 in the app store I believe). When you find the podcasts you like you subscribe and the app updates your feed whenever a new podcast is released.
Here are some of the podcasts I am listening to right now:
David versus David: Advertising and Marketing for small to medium business.
The James Altucher Show
Social Media Marketing Podcast
The Solopreneur Hour Podcast
SuperFast Business
10x Talk with Joe Polish and Dan Sullivan
The Accidental Creative
The EntreLeadership Podcast
Entrepreneurs-Journey.com
Freedom Ocean
I Love Marketing
In the Loop with Andy Andrews
The Moth Podcast
New Rainmaker
Online Marketing Made Easy
Preneurcast
The School of Greatness
Six Pixels of Separation
The Smart Passive Income Podcast
Social Triggers Insider
Think Act Get
Now, you may be thinking to yourself, "that's a lot of podcasts," and you'd be right. But, remember this, most of these only get released once a week. If you don't have some stored up, you can run out of stuff to listen to.
One word of advice when it comes to podcasts; START AT THE BEGINNING. Go back and listen from the first episode and you'll learn a lot more. Each episode, for many of these, builds on the previous episode.
Podcast Hack: most podcast apps will let you listen to the podcasts at more than regular speed - give it a shot. I listen to most podcasts at double speed and not only does it allow me to consume more, it actually is more comfortable to listen to (once you get used to it).
Audiobooks are a Great Second Option
Don't think podcasts are worth it? Want something with a little more oomph? Then maybe audio books are the answer.
I'll be honest, I get tired of listening to podcasts sometimes. There are a lot of great ideas, but you can only get so much depth in an hour.
Enter audio books.
Books on tape have been around forever. But, with this new-fangled thing called the "iPhone" we've got information at our fingertips.
There are two great resources for listening to books on tape: audible.com and audiobooks.com. I personally use audible.com because they are linked with Amazon, making the integration seamless. Like podcasts above, audible has an iPhone app that allows you to download your audio books onto your phone and listen to them whenever you want.
As with podcasts, you can up the speed with which you listen to the book to get through it faster (or calm your ADD, whichever the case).
Don't Take My Word for it, Try it Out
If you don't believe me, that's fine. If you don't like my suggested podcasts that's fine.
