Pastor Ed continues to tell us Solomon's warning about money. The warning is that money cannot buy us satisfaction or happiness. Even with all the money and things in the world, if we don't have God as center of our lives, we are doomed for death, and we will always be left wanting for more. The bible is clear that life will be good for those in the presence of God. Even if they are poor. Simply put, money should be a vessel to serve God through us. Not a master we become a servant to.

These days we have a bad habit of associating money with happiness. We think that all of our problems will go away if we could come into a large amount of money. Pastor Ed tells us today, that Solomon was an incredibly wealthy King, and that even so, money could not make him happy. Instead he found money to be an insatiable appetite that led to greed and oppression.He again finds that only through God is there satisfaction. Seek God for satisfaction and you will not be left wanting.

Sometimes it's really hard to accept the chaos and bad that's going on in the world. Looking through Ecclesiastes, Pastor Ed tells us that Solomon found that the world was unjust and full of oppression. If we were to live under the context that there is no God. We would find that the implications of that, are that truly nothing matters. Neither the good nor the bad. It would all be irrelevant. Luckily as Christians we know that God gives us purpose and brings justice. He is the answer we all seek.

The world is fallen, and because of that, a broken system is in place. Despite attempts to make it right, the world remains unjust. Pastor Ed tells us today that Solomon also found this to be true in his contemplation of the world. He said that the world was unjust, oppressive, and always would be without the interjection of God. This led Solomon to believe God must be real. For if there's no God to correct these inconsistencies, then mankind is no different than the animals, fighting for scraps.

Continuing his sermon on Solomon's search for the meaning of life, Pastor Ed, in fact, finds for us, “meaning”. If we look to ourselves for purpose. We ultimately find that whatever we do, it isn't enough. The things we build fade away, and the things we want, are replaced by other things we want. But, if we invest our lives into God's purpose, and the spreading of His word, we will be leading others souls to eternity. This is truly the only thing humankind can contribute to that will hold throughout eternity.

We all feel a discomfort and dissatisfaction with life. If we sit long enough, all of us will come to an understanding that we don't feel quite right here on earth. The temporary nature and the sinful nature of our world doesn't feel right. Today Pastor Ed tells us, that is because we belong in an eternal existence with God. God is the Lord of time, and he has set things up in cycles that, if we're willing to look, point us to him. He has set us here, in our specific generation, to contribute and be seeking Him.

Today, Pastor Ed continues to tell us of what Solomon discovered in his search for meaning. Solomon realized that there was nothing that could be done to truly fill human desire. He found that no matter how much he did or received he would still feel the need for more. Taking things further, he found death proved human's irrelevance. No matter how great he or his achievements were, when he died it would all fade away. Only with faith in God, did Solomon see a worthy human existence.

It's easy to fall into the belief, that the pursuit for accumulation is the answer to fulfilling purpose. If we step back, and analyze the long term results of things. We will find it all to be meaningless. Today, Pastor Ed tells us that Solomon accomplished all things a human could hope to, and even then he found emptiness. He exceeded in wisdom, knowledge, success, pleasure, projects, and earning money. Even then, he found that only through God could he fill the innate emptiness which haunts all humans.

The truth is, the things of this world will never truly satisfy us. As soon as we accomplish or receive something we were after, the human nature in us, will then ask “what's next?”. Today, Pastor Ed tells us that Solomon recognized this pattern. He had strayed from God and became caught in the worldly traps of fame and fortune. There he only found empty existence and realized that only through God does existence hold value. Through God we can look beyond these short lives and into eternity.

The cycle of life, if truly analyzed, has a monotony about it that can make us wonder if there's really any point to it. Especially under the context, that all we have is this planet, and some years on it. If there's truly nothing after, then all we have are lives that will be forgotten creating more lives that will also, be forgotten. It's all truly irrelevant. Today, starting his series in Ecclesiastes, Pastor Ed tells us Solomon discovered this to be true as well. He found that without God he could not find a real purpose for life.
