  • c2eMusic November 2013 - Here Come The Brits

Yeah I know - November Mix, but it's almost Christmas. Well it should have been released over three weeks ago, and to be fair in a couple of months time anyone visiting the podcast won't know any different! This mix was originally going to be a full two hours of new music, however five minutes into the show I saw a post on Facebook from Andy Ward saying he was tuned in. Yikes - pressure was on (no pun intended!), needed to put in a solid performance .
The first ten tracks are new, well they were a few weeks back. The opening three provided a rare chance to string one of my favourite sounds together. Max Graef really encapsulates that sound - yes I need to speed them all up a wee bit as they are intended to be played down at 118 BPM. I love the result though, the beats have a rolling jazzy feel and the synths and vibes and right up my alley.
Big call out to Rhemi (aka - Neil Pierce & Ziggy Funk) who are on a great roll right now - so much so we have two tracks back to back. The Rhemi boys spearheaded an impromptu British invasion. Every track with one exception comes from a different UK producer and we pulled no punches either. Grant Nelson, Dave Lee, Ross Couch, Sean McCabe, Nick Moss, Richard Earnshaw, Danny J Lewis, Piers Kirwan and of course we couldn't leave out Andy Ward.  These guys are the Bentleys, Astons  and Jags of the house scene.  I've been playing this mix on my phone for weeks whilst waiting to get around to releasing it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
For those that can - I hope you are able to join me for the live radio show every Thursday - 10am to 12pm UK on www.pressureradio.com
I'd like to wish everyone a great Christmas - and thanks for your support in 2013- look forward to sharing some sweet deep soulful house with you all in 2014 and beyond.....

  • c2eMusic October 2013 - Right Before My Eyes

You may have noticed that there haven't been many c2eMusic podcasts released over the last few weeks. Initially it was due to work commitments, but more recently it was life chucking a grenade, the kind that makes you stop in your tracks and rethink, well pretty much everything. As a result there hasn't been much room in my tiny brain for music, even though listening to it keeps me sane.
There is a big silver lining and I can't wait for the next chapter in life to unfold, as the title of the mix suggests what is most important to me has always been right before my eyes. Leah, my wife is the most beautiful and amazing person and I have been so lucky to have had her in my life for over 20 years. I can't wait to experience what the next 20 years have in store with her by my side. I know this podcast is all about music, but it is my podcast so if I want to tell my wife how much she means to me and how much I love her, then I will :)
As you can imagine I haven't bought all that much music recently, but there is enough good stuff for just over 90 minutes of goodness. Remembering back before Pressure there was only a monthly release of 80 minutes!
This is a mix of two halves, the first being on the deep and soulful tip, and the latter on the chunky side. There are a couple of favs in here for me, first being the Jill Scott Accapella over "Walberswick", I can still see myself jumping around with a huge smile on my face when i first played them together the other night. The other is what must be a c2eMusic exclusive - "Keep On Running" is originally a 111 BPM track which I've locked the key and sped up to 124! I can't get enough of it, if you hear it somewhere else, they nicked it from this mix.......that's my claim anyway!!
We end with a classic from back in the day, but with a twist.
Not sure when the next mix will be, possibly just another monthly in November but I can't make any promises, so you best make the most of this one! Thanks to everyone for your continued support, especially when the music isn't exactly flowing out the door as per usual.

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 05-09-13 - All Change

The title is no reflection of the show itself, more the time of year, more recently one of my favourite times of year.
Having lived on the top side most of my life along with most of you guys, I am still adjusting to life down under being out of sync with the majority when it comes to the seasons.
It means that I have to watch you guys enjoying those great late light summer nights, BBQs with friends and all the outdoor music events, while I am wearing an extra layer to keep warm down here.
However all that changes about now as the sunshine makes it's way back down South. It's about this time you feel a buzz in the city as people sense summer is just around the corner (if you live in Australia of course!).
So when I listen to this mix it makes me think of the beach, BBQs and warm evenings down the park with my two boys. Given people listen to this all over the world it will mean something different to everyone, but that's what is so great about music. It helps capture your memories of a great spring, or autumn which can be relived simply by sitting back and pressing play.
As for the show it is dominated by new tracks, but we do have a couple of old gems towards the end.
The opener "Airglow Fires" is one of my favs, exactly where I like to be right now. Same with the third track "Amber Express" which has that old MCDE Raw Cuts sound, I love that stuff.
There is a layer of more soulful vocal stuff next with the Brits coming up trumps with the likes of Sean McCabe, Neil Pierce, Ziggy Funk, Richard Earnshaw.
We then add a bit of bounce and again I have to call out Ross Couch who has delivered with his latest E.P. "Closer". So good we have all three tracks in the show.
Towards the end we see a couple of old favourites pop in with Deepstar's "Sugar" and a couple from the Sunburst Band.
Great to see the regulars in the chatroom again, and to see feedback on Facebook during the show. Your support keeps me hungry to keep hunting down those nuggets to bring to you all.
Finally a big thank you to the producers out there. In a digital world where it isn't easy to earn a living these days I'm sure I speak on behalf of all listeners out there in thanking you for your continued drive to create such great house music for us all to enjoy. Long may it continue.
To all those heading to VBW in Spain have a great time and a big sweaty boogie for me. To say I'm jealous would be.....well you know.

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 15-08-13 - Deep Soulful Soak

This week's show was off then on again. Resulted in another last minute trolley dash (don't they all?!)
Some great stuff about on the soulful tip right now, anchored by the excellent Nathan Adams release on Tribe. It gives this mix a classic c2eMusic feel from a few years back. There is a nice mix of different styles through the mix as it transitions and builds.
The opening stuff is really lush and deep like a nice fresh deep steaming bath. The vocals that then build on that continue with that warm bass courtesy of the production skills of Louie Vega and Sean McCabe.
The mix ups a notch with the in form Rhemi (Neil Pierce & Ziggy Funk) who you can tell through their music are having a whale of a time right now. We continue to thicken the stew ever so gently one track at a time.
Then out of nowhere comes the most incredible drop - "Keep On Drinkin'". I'll be honest it sounds really familiar but I don't know what it's from....can anyone help me on that? Big thanks to Frank Soto for putting me onto it during his show on Pressure the other day. Another highlight for me in the show was when I dropped Byrdman's Revenge - the Rhythm Masters mix from 2004. Wasn't sure whether anyone would remember it, I used to play it to death. Luckily the chatroom felt the same way as me, and I'm pretty sure we all made some shapes and threw some moves down, wherever we were.
There's just time for a gentle rub down with a thick warm towel after that.
Just don't forget to wipe around the bath after the water has drained!

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 08-08-13 - Sound Of The Moooog

This week's show is named after the most featured artist in the set - Joss Moog. His recent EP Late Nite Beats has so much sizzle that we have 4 tracks from it in the show - very impressive. Big thanks to fellow Pressure resident Sahara 247 for the heads up on "Big Mike" and Mr Paul Grooves - who played after me last week and opened my ears to a few of the tracks in here including - "In Detroit", "Running", "Ministry Of Love" and "Wonder". "Pirate" Paul shouted when I dropped those tunes this week.........."Ahoy, me Hearties!!"
The number of Pressure listeners has increased significantly these last few weeks. I'd like to think that's down to the quality of music the residents play - bringing you the best in Deep & Soulful house music. Whatever the reason we'd like to say a BIG thank you for your continued support and for choosing us to provide the ear candy for your daily musical fix.

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 26/7/13 - Kojak Smoooth

Yep that's right not just smooth but Kojak smooth - but don't go expecting much phunk - we only have one Dave Lee track in here.
This week's show was moved to Friday as people were telling me they couldn't get access to the stream. I also couldn't see whether I was streaming or not, so best option was to postpone.
Big thanks to Leah and Jules for keeping me company in the chatroom on the Friday.
The mix opens with some serious pitch action. The first two tracks are originally 114 and 119 BPM - ever so gently squished up to 124! Gives them a different feel and I for one like it.
The mix flows from deep to smooth, with a healthy dollop of deepness. The vocals then kick in with "Closer", "Lucky" and "Let's Stay Home".
The tempo picks up and gets all Phunky courtesy of Dave Lee with his excellent mix of "Love Today". We get a cheeky Chicago slap from Cajmere on "Feel It" before getting all grown up and jazzy with Tob, Der B-r. Sean McCabe keeps things bouncin' along before the first of three (yes three!) tracks from the inform Ross Couch. Not often every track from an EP get's rinsed in the same set these days, but it would have been rude not to, and besides I couldn't decide on which one to play, so why not play them all. The mix takes on that new electronic sound with Audiowhores and Richard Earnshaw on remix duty. We then have the first of two blasts from the past, "You Took My Lovin" is a spring chicken at 19 years old. One of the original NNR releases and very different sounding to the rest of the releases on the label. The pensioner title though goes to Mr Monday's "Future" a favourite of mine harking back to 1990 - yes that's 23 years old. Old enough to have gone to Uni and have the degree in "Top Shelf Choonage" that it deserves. The mix ends with a new track from Deetron that I couldn't decide where to place in the mix, but I think it sounds at home switching off the lights and sending you all on your way.
If Kojak were still fighting crime today you'd like to think he'd be blasting this out of his old brown 1974 Buick Century Regal with the magnetic red light flashing away while booting it round the streets of NY kicking ass, sucking his trusty lollipop and admiring his smooth shiny barnet....."who loves ya baby?"

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 18/7/13 - Chunky 13

It's about that time to have a look back at 2013 so far. As expected quality soulful house releases haven't been that plentiful following the trend of recent years. In contrast it's been a good year so far on the deep side helped by the many young producers adding to the scene. The likes of James Dexter, Evan Iff, Detroit Swindle, Kyodai and Dale Howard. In addition established producers have come into great form too with the likes of Ross Couch & Danny J Lewis producing tune after tune. Add to that the bankers - Sean McCabe, Nick Moss, Shur-I-Kan, Richard Earnshaw with the Spiritchaser releases and it's been a pretty good year so far.
This mix highlights the chunkier side. The soulful round up is more likely to come at the end of the year.

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 03-06-13 - Back of The Sofa

This is the mix that nearly got away.  Recorded live on Pressure during the crazy week when I had the house to myself.  I'd wanted to play a disco/funky sounding house set and as you'll hear started off well, but was easily distracted!  The crowning glory comes at the end when we sign off with not one, not two but five big old classic tunes.
From memory I was joined in the chatroom by Kevin Anthony over in Baltimore. in fact I blame him for making me stray from the disco/funk sound. He always brings out the chunky tunes in me.  We do pull it back three quarters of the way through with the help of Dave Lee - who else.
Anyway I have meaning to release this for a while and pretty much forgot all about it.
The prompt came from Simon Bowden who asked for something new to listen to for Suncebeat. So here we are!
Since the intention was a disco/funk sounding mix I have to give a massive shout out to Dave Griffiths over in Fort Lauderdale. I know he loves this sound. Look forward to catching up next year in the US.

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 11-07-13 - Lights Out

This is one for the deep heads with plenty of b-line and very little singing with a huge UK undercurrent.
Some show's are like projects and very well planned, some are done with a direction and feel in mind, others are spur of the moment but with tunes that I'm familiar with. This session is non of the above. Made up as we go along with tracks I don't know. Very risky as the mix could take a change for the worse and lose momentum in just one track. That's what I fully expected to happen this week, the tunes I had bought didn't have any solid stand out tracks you could build a mix around. I was worried (my wife can confirm!)
It resulted in a very different sounding c2eMusic mix, one that starts deep, gets deeper, stays deep and ends on a crazy chilled deep tip. No transition to the vocals, just DEEEEEP with a bit of deepness on the side :).
Again maybe it's the influence of the people in the chatroom, Laurie, Paul G, Kev, BG, Jules, Mandy T that kept it on this vybe. They were enjoying and giving great feedback, so we kept cracking on.
Have to call out Ross Couch & Nick Moss - they've figured in the last few shows. It's not a conscious decision but they are on FIRE so impossible not to play at least one of their tracks these days. Good on ya fellas long may it continue. The same goes for Dave Lee and Sean McCabe but this week they didn't figure purely because of where the show was going. True legends of the scene and a big influence on my sound and style.
There is a monster of a tune in here towards the end, I won't say which one, not hard for you to work it out but it sure got the chatroom bouncing.
For those that like their "Detroit Swindle", Kyodai bouncy chunky deep house sound this set is for you.
For the rest of you, this one is best consumed with the lights out and the volume turned up. Just watch those bass bins...........I'm tellin ya!

  • c2eMusic Radio Show - 04-07-13 - I Have A Dream

Named after the accapella drop early in the mix - always sounds great and especially over the deepness.
This show is a condensed version of the one I did as part of the Soulful Saturday cover the previous weekend while the Pressure family celebrated 10 years. It was also Andy Wards birthday so double celebration. Would love to have gone, but that is the sacrifice you make when you move to the other side of the world.
The opener to this week's show comes courtesy of Henrique Pirai, a Producer/Dj based in beautiful Rio. Appreciate you sending me your work to be able to share with the c2eMusic family.
Another fun chatroom this week, good to see Bob back in there along with Laurie here in Sydney and we had a late appearance from JeffVaz escaping the heat of the Spanish sun.
The show went down well with everyone so hopefully you'll enjoy it too.
Just past the halfway point in the year so maybe it's time for a recap of tracks that smashed it in the first half.
Keep your eyes peeled for that one.
