Saul is anointed and declared King over Israel and faces his first test as the Ammonite leader Nahash, the serpent, sets siege against Jabesh Gilead. The citizens of Jabesh Gilead consider striking a deal with Nahash who promises to forgo killing them if they allow him to pluck out their right eyes. Saul leads an Army against Nahash to rescue his people. The Lord is shown mighty on their behalf. 

Verses 1-3 of 1 Corinthians 11. Discussing discipleship through imitating Christ, receiving and keeping biblical traditions, and gender roles within the church. 

Saul enters the scene as God's people cry out for a king. Through a series of seemingly providential events Saul finds himself face to face with God's prophet, Samuel. Samuel instructs Saul in God's plan and offers insight into Saul's new life.
