This passage clearly sets out the idea of the Trinity and the work of the Holy Spirit. But the purpose of the passage sees Jesus wanting to comfort and reassure his disciples about his departure.

Jesus begins his last night with his disciples by washing the feet of his disciples. There is no doubt a lesson on humility involved ... but there is a bigger lesson regarding what Jesus is about to do on the cross.

The final instructions Jesus gave to his disciples was that they were to preach the good news and make more disciples. The "core business" of the church is breaing witness to Jesus to see more people come to trust in and follow him.

When we think of "the Church" we tend to think of things like the building or the denomination. But the New Testament knows nothing about those things. So what does the Bible say about the Church?

The opening words of this Psalm were spoken by Jesus as he hung on the cross. This Psalm helps us understand what Jesus did in his death on the cross.

In this incredibel Psalm the writer shows what we can know about God from the created order ... but how we can respond to God in the way he has revealed himself in his word.

This first Psalm is a wisdom Psalm. Two people are compared: the righteous and the wicked ... one who delights in God's word ... and the other who mocks those with faith in God.

Solomon sees a world where there is injustice and oppression ... and it sounds a lot like the world we live in. For Solomon there seems to be no hope of justice. But when Jesus steps onto the world stage he proclaims that he has come to bring justice to the world.
