Following a disastrous 2023 season, the Carolina Panthers were in desperate need of playmakers at the wide receiver position. Panthers GM Dan Morgan made his first trade in the position by sending Donte Jackson and a sixth-round pick to Pittsburgh for Diontae Johnson and a seventh-round pick. 

By completing that trade, Morgan brought in a player to Carolina in exchange for a player the team was planning to cut.
