Rebecca and Jolene discuss their buddy read, All Our Relations: Finding the Path Forward by Tanya Talaga, but they also delve into current affairs affecting BIPOC in North America.  Both are strong in their commitment as allies in the struggle for equality in the US and Canada.

You can find more about Jolene and her passion for books on Instagram: @bookwormadventuregirl as well as her website and blog: www.bookwormadventuregirl.com

Shauna asks, "How great are Canadian authors?!" because Rebecca reached out to author Karen McBride a day after she finished reading Crow Winter and she agreed to chat with them.  Please excuse Rebecca's gushing over this wonderful story about a young Indigenous woman returning home and the trickster crow, Nanabush, who helps reveal her family's secrets.

Shauna and Rebecca take an interview break from authors and Canada Reads defenders to chat with publisher Bruce Walsh, formerly of the University of Regina Press.  In June 2020, Bruce will begin his new role as publisher of House of Anansi Press, which was "founded in 1967 with a mandate to publish Canadian writers."  https://houseofanansi.com/  A few of their current titles include: Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death, and Hard Truths in a Northern City by Tanya Talaga (CBC's Canada Reads 2018 longlist); Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club by Megan Gail Coles (CBC's Canada Reads 2020 selection); and The Break by Katherena Vermette (CBC's Canada Reads 2017 selection).

Shauna and Rebecca are honored to have journalist and non-fiction author Tanya Talaga on the podcast.  While the subject matter of Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death, and Hard Truths in a Northern City, in which seven Indigenous youth die in Thunder Bay, Ontario over a 10-year period, is serious and sobering, the discussion is lively and ends on a hopeful note.  Talaga also authored, All Our Relations: Finding the Path Forward.

Shauna and Rebecca are excited to welcome Cory Doctorow for a special (nearly) one hour podcast.  Rebecca's questions are related to the four novellas in Radicalized, but you'll soon discover Cory's responses offer a wide-ranging, fascinating look at our current world.

Rebecca and Larissa discuss The Break by Katherena Vermette and both have the same question: why are Rain, Lou, and Flora the only characters in first person?  As a natural segue, Larissa talks about the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Canada and recommends the following websites:

Shauna and Rebecca are excited to chat with another guest reviewer, Sarah from Nova Scotia!  Topics include CBC's Canada Reads 2020 contenders: Son of a Trickster, We Have Always Been Here, and first impressions of Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club.  Besides being an avid reader, Sarah has her own YouTube Channel--Sarah Stitches.

Rebecca also mentions she researched past CBC's Canada Reads themes:
