It's interesting to see more Canadians start to understand how bad the trade war is now. But Canadian small and medium sized businesses have been dealing with this problem for nearly two years already, and I have been complaining about it here relentlessly.

I have been trying to find a way around america since trump got elected again so I could find other markets for my jewelry products. No luck so far, and that business is now gone even though CUSMA still applies legally and we should have American market access.
The danger for Canada is that our gov will use the trade trauma to further their own interests over and above the interests of ordinary Canadians. A kind of trade war profiteering that will let government  insiders maximize their personal power or profit while the population is panicked, traumatized or afraid.

Watch for it.

This is why we need Parliament back in session and a free press. We have neither. We need Parliament back as this is a national security emergency. Canadians have zero clue what carney will announce in Europe next week, but we should have an idea at least. It is our country here after all, not his. He is only here temporarily. He is keeping Canadians in the dark.
Having lived in war zones and trade war zones before, I suspect the next american bully moves will relate to blocking Canadian business travel or other travel across the border with visa restrictions or large fees or extended visa application cycles, or perhaps brutalizing a Canadian or two at the border crossings which will spread across social media to dissuade Canadians from crossing. Changes to border crossings will be sudden and should be expected soon I think. Shutting Canadian business travelers out of the US can be done with a stroke of a pen by executive order in an instant.

Prepare for this.

I have no confidence in our present government as they have demonstrated no competence in any matter over the last decade. But I have absolute confidence in we Canadians, who may be slow to snap to attention, but clearly define being Canadian as Not Being American. Not being american is exactly right.
I am deeply proud of not being american. My Canadian patriotism is tied to my country very deeply, to the earth here itself, the plants, the animals, the cities, Canada's modern and old history, and not to any politician who happens to be in power.

Google renaming our lakes is last straw. I talk about how I am moving my small tech stack away from Google in particular and US tech companies in general, because they are now all US Department of War defense contractors. I have a long history with the company, but I consider this lake thing an attack on Canadian sovereignty.

As a Canadian, I don't have to subscribe to that and neither should you. I talk about moving our email to Proton in Switzerland by 2027 so the trump government can't read or control our email and so I don't support Google any more with my money.

Our government has finally struck back against the american regime for their stupid tariffs, except not until Sept 8. Gym bros in Canada will be hit particularly hard with 50% duty on whey protein and gym equipment. It is all so stupid.

A product design came to me that incorporates my anger at the USA so I am making a prototype now. Orange clown's announcement of a 50% tariff on art, craft and jewelry from Canada which was supposed to impact us today has been paused for 3 days. US markets are still closed to Canadian art products because a promise of the tariff 2 weeks ago stopped all sales. Our US market won't re-open in 3 days.

The demented lunatic just has to say he will impose a large tariff on Canada, pull it back, and do it over and over again to destroy our economy.

Our prime minister is a master at making meaningless announcements and should do the same.

Lets have a 900% tariff on Florida oranges to come into effect in 2 weeks. No more caving carney. He will look stronger, more in command, after such an announcement. Or why not a 478% tariff on imported US almonds in 3 weeks time?

Announce that now, and let their industries deal with it.

Our PM has a 4000 person communications staff AND full control of the mainstream news media in Canada so he should use that as a tool for retaliation instead of for self promotion.

But what is the likelihood of that ever happening?

Also I talk about how 2 sticks of RAM that cost $200 a short time ago now costs $1400 and how AI inflated RAM prices are now spreading into laptops, SD cards, and hard disks. All the tools a modern artist needs to produce or sell art.

An inch wide flat fireproof gasket fell into my old-timey-looking wood stove. Contacting the Old Order Mennonites who apparently made the stove by hand is proving difficult because they don't have an email address or use the internet. Once I reach them to get the advice I need to replace the gasket, the woodstove will likely outlast the internet itself. I marvel at how the choice to not use the Internet to better one's community makes a lot of sense these days.

I explore how the Trudeaus seem to be using support of the son's hip hop track to get back at each other over social media and whether that will do anything for Xav's record sales or career. A new genre of state-funded music called NepoHop might emerge from all this in Canada as long as it meets the strict aboriginal and government sexual and racial identity content requirements on art and music Trudeau gave our county.

(But I bet it somehow will).

On August 19, 2026 a 50% US tariff will be applied to Canadian Arts, Crafts, and Jewelry exports into the United States and this will destroy the arts sector in Canada.

Will governor Carney do anything to challenge it? Will his government support artists and makers? Or will he continue to be a no-show at the negotiation table as our trade agreements expire and creative industries collapse?

Will his government continue to pick and choose who gets grant support or funding or even awards and accolades based on race and identity, as is currently the case in the Canadian arts sector?

I hate social media, and I know you do too. As artists, we are being abused by social media platforms' billionaire, bunker-dwelling owners who shape, control, and monetize our art while giving nothing back.

I've had enough of it. In this episode, I describe how I am refusing to use social media as the destination for my art. Instead, people will have to come to my website to see it.

I am even putting extra effort into making it unshareable on social media.

Why? Because I don't want deodorant ads running across my art while others monetize it. I am not even going to host my documentary series on YouTube because I have made a political decision not to host the videos on U.S.-owned platforms because they support the psychotic Trump government.

As artists, we should stand up for our principles, improve the quality of our art, and protect it from tech-bro abuse and monetization. If my work becomes obscure because of this decision, that's fine, because I have never been happier about any decision in my life.
