I’m trying to enjoy the last few days of Summer so I’m recording this outside in the streets of Toronto. I start this one off by talking about social equity and how the prohibition of Cannabis has continued to effect different people. Also, I wanted to shout out some specific brands like Cannara who never disappoint. Finally, listen in to hear this interaction I had with a gentleman regarding edibles and how it not only created a bond between us but gave me some great insight into Cannabis use in his culture.

It’s time for some honest feedback so I’m out talking to consumers in Toronto for this episode! I’m joined by Tef to talk about his experience with Cannabis and how long he has been consuming. Like many of us, Cannabis has been a significant part of Tef’s life from a young age. How did Cannabis contribute to his environment and how has accessibility changed over time? In his personal opinion, how has the introduction of dispensaries changed the industry and how does today’s legal Cannabis rank against black market products? We then talk about Cannabis being classified as a drug and how there has been a false narrative and negative connotation tied to the consumption of the plant. Like I always say, there is nothing better than hearing the perspective of an everyday consumer.

Buckle up because this is another episode where I continue to breakdown the “War on Drugs.” In 1875, there was an ordnance banning opium dens in San Fransisco. This was the birth of racially motivated and prohibitive laws. Have you heard of man by the name of Harry Anslinger? In 1930, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics was created and Anslinger was the first commissioner. His bureau made many allegations such as drugs caused users to commit violent crimes, addicts induced others to become addicts as well as many racially motivated allegations targeting different marginalized groups. There is still so much to unpack when it comes to the War on Drugs so listen in to get a greater understanding of how the laws regarding Cannabis have changed and been influenced over time.

I want to take a second to acknowledge the significance of August 1st is as it marks the date the Slavery Abolition Came into affect across the British Empire freeing just under one million enslaved Africans. On this episode I will be taking a look at how Cannabis has been used against many to benefit the few and how this evolved into the War on Drugs. Let’s take it all the way back to the 1600s and walk through this evolution over the years. Listen in to hear how laws over time continue to oppress different racial groups. It is important to understand the underlying hate within America laws and how Cannabis has been labelled as a “bad” product.

Today we are going to be talking about events and products in the industry. I have done my fair share of traveling to different industry related events so let me give you some insight on some that you should definitely check out. Hall of Flowers, MJBizCon, Kine Magazine and Lift & Co. are just a couple that make my list. These events are not only a great resource to stay up to date with everything that’s happening in the industry but an opportunity to network with others in the space. Also, I have some products that I want to shout-out for those who are maybe looking to try something new because there are so many options. As I always say, we need to continue to open up the dialogue when it comes to this industry to not only spread the knowledge but to build it up together.

Today we are in downtown Toronto and its a sight to behold seeing people walking around and consuming Cannabis as they go about their day. Just talking to people on the street, it’s great to hear the perspectives of both the people who consume and don’t consume Cannabis. It’s frustrating to say but there is still a lack of education and information readily available for people to learn more about Cannabis products. On this episode I talk more in-depth to a young man that I met randomly on the side of the street who had no experience consuming Cannabis. Let’s hear what he has to say as he recounts his first encounter with the plant and shares his thought on those that consume Cannabis products.

This episode builds off of last week's conversation with Joyce Cenali. How can people learn more about the Cannabis Media Council and access some of the resources that they have made available? Let's also hear from Joyce how the council was founded and how they put their team together.
