I wonder if you can remember a time when you were lost? When I was younger I thought it would be funny to hide from my mom in the clothing rack at the mall, but when I jumped out to scare her she was gone and panic filled my little heart. I yelled out for her, I ran around looking, I literally thought in that moment I would never see her again. It is an emotion I can still feel when i relive it. Maybe you don't have that kind story, but at some point we all experience that sense of isolation, loneliness, fear of being cut off, and wondering if anyone will find us. 

Years later I had a similar, but different kind of fear when one of my kids went missing in a store. Every worst case scenario rushed through my brain, and I began to frantically rush around yelling out my child's name. I didn't care who I offended, what I looked like to others, I only cared about finding my lost child. And when I found the, joy flooded my heart as I picked them up and embraced them-my son who was lost was now safe! 
This week in Acts 8 God reveals His heart for any that are lost and need to come home.

Perhaps the most-like-Jesus of any character we study in the New Testament, and also one of the most relatable, is Stephen the Martyr. This guy is not an apostle, not a preacher, church planter, prayer warrior, and has no impressive resume or skills that we know about. And yet, because of his choice to forgive in Acts 7, he becomes more like Jesus than perhaps anyone else. Why? Because...

We're never more like Jesus than when we forgive. 

But the truth is, forgiveness is hard. How do we forgive those who have hurt us the most? How do we forgive people who don't deserve it? How do we forgive people who haven't changed and who aren't even asking for forgiveness? This Sunday we will jump into all of it, as we together study what the Bible says about forgiving, and the freedom that comes with it.

Are you good at math? This is a complicated question because there are many types of math.

But the type of math that can be hardest for us to understand in this life is what we will call, in this week's message, "God Math." We see in the beginning of Acts, as the church begins, that God adds to their number daily. We see God multiply their faith in others. This type of math is exciting! But in Acts 5 we see God introduce a new kind of math to his church: Subtraction. 

Even though we love when God adds and multiplies, the truth is God often uses subtraction to move our lives forward. God does not mind cutting out anything or anyone in our lives that is holding us back from bearing the kind of fruit he likes. We will dive head first into this idea as we study one of the most jarring and hard-to-understand stories in all of the New Testament: Ananias and Sapphira.

As we've been journeying through the book of Acts and reading all about the incredible feats of the early church, we’ve found ourselves marveling at the disciples' superhuman faith and strength and resolve.

Except we know that they were anything BUT superhuman.

Rather, they were ordinary people who God used for extraordinary purposes. So the real question is, why THEM?

And the answer, in part, is that they were available. Availability was their superpower. And part of what we're going to see this week is that availability is often the precursor to experiencing a move of God. But what we must know, is that the enemy is always looking to stop the move of God, and often he does that by placing obstacles in the way of our availability.

For those of us who have lived in California for any length of time, we know that at any moment when we least expect it the ground can start to shake. Every time we feel the initial jolt we wonder in our minds, "Is this going to be the big on?!" There is nothing we can do to stop these quakes from coming, but we can prepare ourselves to respond and withstand them. 

Well, life is the same way. When we least expect things start to shake: emotionally, financially, relationally, etc... Do you have a strategy to endure when the shaking inevitably comes? Better yet, have you discovered a way to be unshakeable to the things life throws at you? This week we were in Acts 4 where the early church experience the first wave of persecution threatening their lives. We discover a bold church, that was unshakeable once they were shaken by God.

Busyness has become something our culture celebrates. It's become a badge of honor to overwork, get little sleep, and do "too" many things in life. Try telling someone you're not busy in 2025, they'll probably look at you like you're an alien. But how much of life do we truly miss when we are simply running through it? How often do we miss God, miss people, and miss miracle moments because we just did not see them? Most of the time we're not even looking. 

But what does it look like to begin to walk, not run, through life looking for his kingdom all around us? How do we go from seeing life in 3D to 4D, to being present physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? Peter in Acts 3 shows us how to practically walk through life with eyes that are actually looking for God to move in our world. Tune into this week’s message called, “Eyes Wide Open”.
