The truth is there is a lot of division in the church today. It's not hard to find. Media loves it. Sometimes we love it. But God hates it. This week we jumped back into our journey through the book of Acts and our series ‘Church In The Wild’, by looking at Acts chapter 12.

At the beginning of Acts chapter 12, we see King Herod persecuting and murdering believers, and upon seeing how much it pleased the people, he doubles down and takes it even further.

This highlights just how susceptible our flesh is to the fear of man, to this anxious need for people’s approval, and affirmation. It also highlights how far we’ll go to win that approval.

Proverbs 29 tells us that the fear of man is a snare, or trap? What, then, is the solution?

We explored the truth that while the fear of man is dangerous, there is a fear that sets you free. We unpacked this in a message called, “Fear That Frees”.

This Sunday we celebrated Mother's Day!

We learn in scripture that honor is one of the love languages of God, but it is being lost in our world. It is perhaps more common for someone to honor themselves than it is for someone to honor someone else. But what does God think of that?

The Bible teaches us that when we honor others above ourselves we honor God, whether we feel like doing it or whether they even deserve it. God's style of honor takes much humility and sacrifice which is why it can unlock God's blessings in our lives. We unpacked this in a message called, “Make Honor Common Again.”

This week we learned what God really wants to do in our lives through baptism. As we go down into the water, there is something God wants us to let go of. If we're honest, we aren't always good at letting go. Whether it's our stuff, an injustice, or a grudge, letting go in life is hard. But we will talk about letting go of one of the most difficult things: Our past mistakes. 

Looking at the life of Moses, we saw that God led him to a moment at the Red Sea where he could no longer run from his past. It was a difficult situation, to say the least, but we discover in scripture that God actually led him into it. Why would God do that? To set him free. God will lead us into some Red Seas so he can drown the shame that chases us.

In Matthew 10, Jesus sends out his disciples into the world to preach the Good News. Before he sends them, he tells them why he came. He says in verse 34, "Don't think I came to bring peace into the world. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." What in the world does that mean?

The Bible teaches us that Jesus comes on Easter to bring us peace, but that's not the first thing he comes to do in our lives. He first comes to wage war on the thing that steals our peace: Sin. We often want to make peace with our sin, but Jesus comes to wage war against it. Jesus doesn't come to accept us and our sin, but rather accepts us despite our sin and after dealing with our sin. I believe Jesus wants to set us free in a whole new way this Easter, no matter how long we've been in church, by waging war on that which takes away our peace.
