Captivate Podcast

Submit. Possibly the hardest word in the English language.

We've all watched authority go bad – the boss, the coach, the leader who let us down. So this isn't a sermon about politics. It's about a deeper question: How do I live in a world I didn't design, under leaders I didn't choose, next to neighbors I didn't pick?

Romans 13 doesn't fix the crisis of authority by giving us a perfect leader – there isn't one. It fixes it by lifting our eyes to the one Authority who used His power not to take, but to die. We'll talk about honoring people we didn't vote for, learning our neighbors' names, and staying awake to the King who's coming.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you realize you've been carrying something you were never meant to carry?

Maybe it's trying to hold your life together. Maybe it's trying to fix yourself. Maybe it's the pressure of proving your worth, securing your future, or becoming the person you think you should be.

The truth is, most of us spend a lot of time trusting ourselves to do what only God can do.

This Sunday, we continued our series “A New Humanity” in Romans 11. Paul tackles a difficult question: What happens when people reject God's way? Is mercy exhausted? Is the story over?

His answer is surprisingly hopeful.

Romans 11 reminds us that mercy isn't God's backup plan. It IS the plan. While we often double down on self-reliance, God continues to pursue people with patience, grace, and an invitation to come back home.

If you've ever wrestled with disappointment, control, self-sufficiency, or wondered whether God's grace really applies to you, this message will encourage you.

Tune into this week’s message called, “Mercy Is The Master Plan”!

This Sunday we jumped back into our series in Romans with chapter 9. This is the chapter that has ended more friendships than any other passage in Scripture. Pastors skip it. Scholars fight over it. And this Sunday, we went straight in, why? Because the Holy Spirit included it for a reason.

We're going to wrestle with a question that's bigger than any theology debate, one that confronts us every single day: Does God actually get to be God? Not God as a concept we manage, not God as a consultant we call when things get rough, but God as God. Sovereign. Mysterious. Trustworthy. This passage is going to stretch us, challenge us, and honestly — if we let it — it's going to set us free.

This weekend we dove into two of the most memorized, most known, most powerful verses in all the Bible… Romans 12:1-2 tells us to "not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.”

Let’s be honest… The pattern of this world is pretty chaotic. It’s not very hard to find bad news. Because of that it becomes easy as believers to live, not in response to the grace of God, but in reaction to the chaos of the world. When we constantly consume the chaos, we will conform to the chaos. It gets into our minds and soul and affects every part of our life. Yet Jesus, the Prince of Peace, walks into the middle of our chaos and offers relief. He urges us to live in reaction, not to chaos, but his mercy.

These verses help us to better understand how what we consume shapes who we become, why chaos is constantly fighting for our attention, what it means to become a “living sacrifice.” Scripture urges us to take chaotic thoughts captive before they take us captive, and how can we allow Jesus to renew our minds and form us into people of peace. Tune into this week’s message as we unpack this in a message called, “No Longer Conforming to Chaos.”

Did you know that Jesus and moms actually have a lot in common? They both can take scraps of food and make amazing meals. They both tend to use our first and last (and sometimes middle) name when we are in big trouble. And besides other fun things we talked about this Sunday, moms and Jesus both believe in us when we don’t even believe in ourselves.

We dove into a scripture that shows the heart of a mother that comes straight from Jesus’ heart, when he believes in a disciple who had his worst moment. No matter where we go in life, the ups and downs, just like Jesus, a Godly mother will always be there waiting for us to come back to who God made us to be. And for that, they deserved to be honored, big time. We also jumped into how to honor the spiritual moms, leaders, and Jesus in our lives in a way they deserve, in a message called “What Jesus and Mom Have in Common.”

About 2,000 years ago, the global missions movement was launched out of a city called Antioch and led by a guy named Barnabas… or as we like to call him, Barney. Yes, like the purple dinosaur.

But this Barney was a faith-filled encourager who helped carry the mission of Jesus to the nations. He believed in people, built the Church, and helped multiply the Gospel.

And today, we’re still running with that same mission.

This Sunday we zoomed out and celebrated how God is moving locally, regionally, and globally through Captivate's missions. But we also zoomed in and saw how each of us can be part of what God is doing.

Tune into this week’s message as we celebrate, learn, and discover what it means to “Be a Barney!”
