This Sunday, we kicked off a new series called Curing the 7 Deadly Sins. Over the next ten weeks we’ll walk through struggles that have been tripping people up for centuries—Pride, Lust, Greed, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Wrath. More importantly we will discover the freedom Jesus offers in their place!

This week we started the conversation with Pride! Pride so often sits at the root of the others, whispering that we can handle life on our own, that God’s way is optional, that His grace isn’t really needed. But the truth is, pride keeps us from seeing God clearly, while humility opens our eyes.

This weekend wasn’t just about naming sin, it’s about finding freedom. Together we learned how humility opens the door to God’s best. Tune into this week’s message titled, “From Pride to Humility”.

Have you ever noticed how much time we spend measuring things in life? We keep track of promotions, paychecks, grades, likes, followers, even steps on our watches. Measuring isn’t the problem, it’s just that sometimes we’re measuring the wrong things.

That’s exactly what Jesus addresses in Matthew 25. In His story of the talents, the Master doesn’t reward the servant for results, fame, or accomplishments. He celebrates something else entirely. This Sunday we continued in our series MULTIPLY, looking at how we recalibrate our hearts to heaven’s scoreboard and rediscover the joy of living faithfully with what God has placed in our hands in a message called, “What the Master Measures”.

We are…. 7!!!! This weekend we celebrated a special B-DAY!🎉 

Every birthday feels like a miracle because when you plant a church, you don’t really know what’s going to happen. Yet God has been so, so good! 

This Sunday we stepped into a new series called MULTIPLY with a message called “Between the Jordan and Jericho.” We talked about what it looks like to live between what God has already done and what He’s about to do.

In Joshua 3, God miraculously parts the Jordan River so His people can cross into the Promised Land. That moment alone would have been enough to praise Him forever, but God wasn’t finished yet. Just a few chapters later, He calls them to take down the walls of Jericho. But before they do God leads his people to first CELEBRATE then RECALIBRATE. In Joshua 4, before they pray for more, they thank God for what he’s already done. Then in Joshua 5 they recalibrated their hearts in God’s presence, reminding themselves that it was HIS plan that would bring the next miracle, not theirs.

That’s where many of us find ourselves today, grateful for what God has already done, but hungry for what’s next. The question is, how do we live in the "in-between." I can’t wait to unpack it all with you!

We’re so excited to share with you everything that God has been doing and everything our church has been up to as we prepare for the launch of our third location, in Downtown San Diego.

We have been praying for Captivate to be a people with the courage to respond to the move of God on our hearts—whether about downtown or something else in your life.

The truth is that at some point in our lives, we all experience God call us to something outside of ourselves—to serve others, to a place of leadership, to mend a particular relationship. In those moments we’ll have a choice to make: respond to God’s voice, or let that seed get swept away.

We unpacked this further in this week’s messaged titled, “Unconventional Wisdom”.

This week we took a look at when the disciples had their first real run-in with the law. After preaching about Jesus in the streets, Peter and John get arrested and now stand before the most powerful leaders in their world, the guys who sent Jesus to the cross. They probably should have been terrified... but they weren't. They stood their ground and were bold in their faith. In fact, this stunned the religious leaders so much that they even decided to let Peter and John go, calling them in Greek, “idiotes.” Any guesses on what that word is in English? 

Following Jesus did something to them. It changed the way they thought. It changed their logic. Jesus awakened their hearts and minds to His Kingdom and it changed what they were afraid of, it changed what they were willing to risk, and it changed their definition of success. When we think about success or failure in life, what do we think of? Who or what taught us to think the way we think?

Even if we love and believe in Jesus, sometimes our logic and ways of thinking have nothing to do with Jesus. Maybe we at times have learned a little too much from this world and need to be reawakened to Jesus’ paradoxical way of living. We unpacked this in a message called, “Idiotes for Jesus.”

You ever feel like you're doing all the right things spiritually... showing up, serving, trying your best, but something still feels off? Like you're present, but not really awake?

This Sunday, we looked at one of the wildest stories in the early church, a moment in Acts 20 where a guy literally falls asleep during church and falls out of a window. This story is way more than just a cautionary tale about nodding off during a sermon, it’s a powerful picture of what happens when our hearts grow tired, distracted, or disconnected from the presence of God.

We talked about how easy it is to drift into a kind of sleepy spirituality, where you're close to the things of God, but not fully alive to them. More importantly, we unpacked how God gently and powerfully calls us back to life.

Because here’s the truth, we don’t follow a sleepy Savior. We follow a Risen King and He’s calling His church to wake up, not with shame, but with purpose. Tune into this week’s message called, "Sleepy Spirituality."
