So often in life we feel pressure to move faster, do more, and figure everything out. But Scripture doesn’t invite us to run with God, it invites us to walk with Him. This series is about simplifying our discipleship and walking with Jesus in a sustainable, life giving way. It’s not about adding more weight to our schedules, but recentering our lives around five foundational practices that help us grow together, with intention and clarity: Commune. Church. Connect. Contribute. Corner.

We’re starting this week with the first and most important step: Communing with Jesus. This is about creating space to be with Jesus personally and daily. We don’t want to be rushing into activity or responsibility, but learning to slow down, listen, and walk with Him before everything else. It’s where the walk begins.

Before we work for Him we need to learn to walk with him. Tune into this week’s message!

As we head into a new year we often have plans, goals, and maybe even a "word" we're going after in the new year. But have we slowed down long enough to ask God for his plans and thoughts for us this year?

Scripture tells us that God has many thoughts for us. In fact, David tells us in a Psalm we will be studying that his thoughts for us outnumber the grains of sand of the sea shore… that’s a lot of thoughts! But do we know what they are? Have we treasured them as the Psalm tells us to do and sought them out so we know where we ought to go this year? 

Often we miss God’s thoughts and goals for us in a new year because we have our own thoughts and goals. But the truth is, if our biggest goal for 2026 is something we can do without God then it’s probably not from God. God wants to do something through us only he can do, but he’s waiting on our “yes.” See without him we can’t, but without us he often won’t. 

God wants partnership with us, for us to lean into his will for our year. And there’s no safer, happier, or more fulfilling place to be than the will of God. See 2026 is not about what we could do, it’s about what we’re called to do. Tune into this week’s message, “His Word. Your Yes.”

As has become tradition at Captivate, we kicked the year off with a Praise Party! We want to jump into 2026 the best way we know how, by honoring and praising our God together.

This Sunday we concluded our series, “Misfit Toys”. This week we remembered the moment Jesus stepped out of heaven and made his debut in a messy manger, the moment Jesus began loving the unlikely. From Bethlehem to San Diego and beyond, that was and is still His mission – to seek and to save the lost.

We remembered a Savior who isn’t afraid to step into our messy situations and love those who might be feeling unwanted, overlooked, or overwhelmed, reminding them just how valuable they really are.

Ever felt like the spotted elephant, the train with square wheels, or the cowboy riding an ostrich—like you just don’t quite fit, even at church?

This Sunday we’re opening to the part most of us secretly skip: Matthew’s long, boring genealogy of Jesus. But here’s the thing, when you actually read the names, you discover the family tree of the King of Kings is gloriously, scandalously stuffed with misfits, outsiders, failures, foreigners, and people with pasts so messy we’d delete them from our family tree in a heartbeat.

Yet God proudly parades them front and center to announce, “These are My people—and through this broken, beautiful line, I’m sending My Son… for everyone else who feels broken too.”

This Sunday we unpacked the truth that Christmas isn’t for people who have it all together—it’s for misfits like us. Tune into this week’s message titled “Family Tree”.
