Here's the thing — most of us grew up on a certain script for manhood. Be tough. Never flinch. Never need anybody. Win at all costs. Be a real man. But what if that whole script has been pointing us in the wrong direction? What if God is measuring something the world never even thinks to check?

This week we pursued something better than "tough" and higher than "good." We're going after what it means to be a godly man — and trust me, it's not what the tough-guy movies taught us. There's good news in this one for every single person in the room: the dad with four kids, the man still waiting to be one, the guy who didn't have a great father, and the one who feels like he hasn't been one.

This week we continued our series “A New Humanity” and jumped into Romans 14. Have you ever been so sure you were right... and it still went wrong?

We live in a world full of strong, loud opinions, and if we’re not careful, we can start valuing being right more than loving people well and that’s where things start to break down. In Romans 14, Paul doesn’t hold back. He challenges us to pursue unity in the middle of disagreement, stop majoring in minor things, and learn how to carry our convictions in a way that actually reflects Jesus. What if the goal isn’t to win every conversation, but to build something stronger together? What if the way we treat people in disagreement actually says more about our faith than the position we hold?

Romans 14 gets really practical about how we handle disagreements as followers of Jesus. Paul reminds us that not everything is a salvation issue, and challenges us not to judge or look down on each other over those non-essential differences. Instead, we’re called to pursue peace and build each other up. Paul wants us to understand how to hold strong convictions while still loving people well, how to follow what God is leading you to do without forcing it on others, and how to choose unity even when it’s hard.

Submit. Possibly the hardest word in the English language.

We've all watched authority go bad – the boss, the coach, the leader who let us down. So this isn't a sermon about politics. It's about a deeper question: How do I live in a world I didn't design, under leaders I didn't choose, next to neighbors I didn't pick?

Romans 13 doesn't fix the crisis of authority by giving us a perfect leader – there isn't one. It fixes it by lifting our eyes to the one Authority who used His power not to take, but to die. We'll talk about honoring people we didn't vote for, learning our neighbors' names, and staying awake to the King who's coming.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you realize you've been carrying something you were never meant to carry?

Maybe it's trying to hold your life together. Maybe it's trying to fix yourself. Maybe it's the pressure of proving your worth, securing your future, or becoming the person you think you should be.

The truth is, most of us spend a lot of time trusting ourselves to do what only God can do.

This Sunday, we continued our series “A New Humanity” in Romans 11. Paul tackles a difficult question: What happens when people reject God's way? Is mercy exhausted? Is the story over?

His answer is surprisingly hopeful.

Romans 11 reminds us that mercy isn't God's backup plan. It IS the plan. While we often double down on self-reliance, God continues to pursue people with patience, grace, and an invitation to come back home.
