Christmas reminds us another season has come and gone. We mark our lives by moments, and Christmas is one moment we all experience. For some this moment is joyful, while others painful, as things are not where you thought they would be. You began 2024 praying, planning, dreaming of a narrative for your life and it did not take long for things to veer of course.

The question is, "How will you respond?" It takes a certain courage to press forward when things blow up, when dreams are changed, when the story you are living is not the one you planned. This week we looked at a man whose story took a drastic turn, and the courage he had to trust God to write something better.

There are so many things that go on at Christmas time: shopping, baking, parties, traveling, new shows, new movies, gifts, and usually a lot of food!

But how do we not lose Jesus in the midst of it all? Advent is about celebrating the arrival of the most important person to ever be born, and yet it is easy to make this season about all the extra stuff. Making Christmas about Christ will take real intentionality, to not lose the true meaning. This Sunday we unpacked a message called, “Lost and Found.”

The sin we have called out in this series is called Greed. Greed is not just a bad habit, or just a product of capitalism, it is idolatry according to the Bible and it will take much life from us. In a world that works hard to erase our definition and awareness of sin, the reality is we will never be able to ignore sin. We will always feel the ramifications sin has in our lives and the world around us. When we are not faithful to obey God, it leads to sin, which creates the stress we all feel inside. 

The reality is, sin is stressful and this is why money can stress us out, because we are not always obedient with it. But God gives us a tool called sacrifice to turn it all around. We unpacked what the Bible teaches us about sin and sacrifice in a message called "Stressed or Satisfied?"

Our series, “In Cash We Trust” was titled this way to acknowledge the reality that even as believers sometimes we struggle with really trusting God. If we're honest, there are often times when our knowledge would say, "I trust God," but our actions say, "no, actually I trust money".

So why the disconnect?

The answer to that was at the heart of our conversation this week. Learning what's at the core of these trust issues empowers us to break them down.
