In this week’s passage we see Jesus and the disciples journeying closer to Jerusalem. Don unpacks what Jesus is showing his disciples about the way of His Kingdom here on earth.

Just as it says in 1 Corinthians that "God chose the foolish and weak things of this world to shame the wise and strong." So scripture shines the spotlight on a most unlikely character in the world's eyes, a blind beggar sat by the roadside. A beggar, whose determination for an encounter with Jesus will challenge us towards a more honest, humble, hungry and wholehearted commitment towards becoming and being a follower of Jesus.

Jesus calls us to lead a Radical Lifestyle and show a Radical Love for others. But in order to do that we need to take a long hard look at ourselves and examine the influences on our lives and cut out the things (sin) that entangle us and harm us. This requires a Radical Discipleship together with a Radical Sacrifice so we can ultimately be a Radical Witness for God.

To walk with Jesus as a disciple is to be called out on a radical journey; We leave the old behind and we head towards something new. But as with every journey there's going to be some radical change, and radical growth along the way.

What can we learn from the disciples as we journey through Mark? Through ups and downs, doubts and questions, Jesus sticks with them and if sticks with them, he sticks with us. And what does Jesus want our church to look like? One that welcomes the least in society with open arms and if we do welcome the least, we also welcome in God and His Kingdom.

Jesus often asks direct questions to those he encounters and he asks the same of us. Following the story of Blind Bartimaeus, Jesus asks three questions in this passage for us today: What have you lost? What is holding you back? What do you want?
