In 2021, Fr. Eric organized a three-day Lenten Mission scheduled for March 10, 17 and 24 for St. Joseph the Worker in Oshawa entitled “Freedom in Christ,” which was designed to convey some practical tips as to how live the Gospel in such a way that leads to authentic peace, joy and freedom.  Topics include “loosening the reins” in the spiritual life, rediscovering the value of structure and routine, and living in the space of God’s mercy and love.

Fr. Eric reflects on the story of Lazarus (Jn 11:1-44) to expound upon the reality of how Christ offers us freedom, joy, peace and happiness even now in a limited way; even though it remains true that there is the promise of a transfigured world at the end of time.  Issues discussed include the common misconception of Christianity as simply a “future-based” religion; the identity of Christ as the Bridegroom, the light of the world, the Resurrection and the life, and Emmanuel.

Other topics include Dr. Bob Schuchts’ three-fold paradigm of understanding sin as the convergence of our holy desires, woundedness, and unconfessed patterns of sin; the fact that our emotional responses to suffering does not reflect poorly on our level of faith; and the necessity of time and time to receive the fullness of that which Christ offers to us.

Fr. Eric also cites a book by Dr. Peter Kleponis called "Integrity Restored: Helping Catholic Families Win the Battle Against Pornography."
