Nobody runs a race looking backwards. Yet many people live looking backwards at the burden of past failures or the achievements of past successes. The apostle Paul gives us a picture of what it looks like to live facing forward, finding our hope and our purpose in Christ. Paul encourages us to imitate his example of living a life that is straining forward to what lies ahead!

In this passage, we’ll be looking at how Paul warns the Philippian Church against placing their confidence in anything outside of Jesus. It can be tempting to trust in religious practices or in our own accomplishments, but only faith in Jesus can save.

Why would the Bible say, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"? That phrase sounds terrifying, and it seems to clash with the love and security we have in Christ. But in Philippians 2:12-13 we discover two golden truths that are meant to be held together: we work out our salvation with fear and trembling AND God works in us to will and to work for his good pleasure. These two truths must coexist at the same time to ensure our growth and confidence in Christ.

In this message we learn that the apostle Paul calls us to unity by having the mind of Christ. He reminds us of the blessings we have received in Christ and therefore calls us to humility, looking to the interests of others above our own. Paul points to Christs' life and death as the example for our attitudes and actions with the end result being the glory of God the Father. Join us at cefc.church for more.

Jesus sees how people are harassed, hurting, and helpless, and He looks on us with compassion. In this passage, Jesus uses the illustration of sheep without a shepherd to describe our desperate condition and our need for His care, guidance and protection. Then Jesus describes people as a great harvest ready to be gathered. The fields are ready, the need is urgent, and Jesus calls His followers to pray and go and gather people to Christ.

What makes life worth living? The apostle Paul's life gives us a window into the mind of a man struggling and suffering with the injustices of life and the challenges of old age. His words offer profound insight into what it means to live a life of meaning and purpose found in Christ.

God is amazingly able to use bad things for good. The worst that people throw against you, God is able to use for good. But what is good? Good is the advancement of the gospel. That is more important than health or happiness or anything else that we might pursue in this life. God can use bad things to advance His Gospel, and this is a reason to rejoice!
