In what TNT was calling a match up of Eastern Conference Elites, the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to hold on after a massive comeback by the Boston Celtics, 124-118 at the Quicken Loans Arena Thursday night.

This game had the feel of multiple games within one, as the Cavs held a seven point margin by halftime, and seemingly blew the game open with a disheartening third quarter for the Celtics, as Cleveland found themselves in the driver’s seat up 18 points heading into the final quarter.

With the Cavs up 120-118 with 21 seconds remaining, the Celtics had thoughts of bypassing overtime and heading straight to their plane headed back to Boston with their 13th road victory of the season.

Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder played a nice two-man game, with Crowder popping after setting the screen and finding himself with a good look from three-point with multiple Cavs defenders closing hard on him.

Crowder was 2-5 from three tonight, but couldn’t muster this one to go in, as his shot went long and Richard Jefferson was there for the clutch defensive rebound to seal the win.

Exactly one week following the Boston Celtics’ epic overtime win in Memphis on the strength of Isaiah Thomas’ 44 points, the Celtics were able to outlast the Grizzlies Tuesday night at the TD Garden 113-103.

Thomas’ individual performance was much different this time around, as Mike Conley’s replacement – Andrew Harrison, was able to use his length to disrupt Thomas’ offensive flow, and force Thomas into the teeth of the NBA’s top-ranked defense.

Conley – who is having a career-year at the age of 29 – was held out due to a toe injury.

Thomas – who was just honored with the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award – ended up coming through in the fourth quarter with nine points on 5-5 shooting from the free throw line when the game mattered most.
