The 1st of those 9 games saw the Celtics host the Cavaliers. The Celtics were without Al Horford and Jaylen Brown while the Cavs were without JR Smith who the team sent home until they can trade him and Kevin Love who is out until January due to surgery. The game saw the Celtics play 2 close quarters in the 1st half but lead by 10 at halftime before the starting 5 blew the game open in the 3rd via a 39-20 scoring edge and it allowed Brad Stevens to sit the starters and play the end of the bench in the 4th quarter limiting their minutes as they would be on to Minnesote to play the Wolves the next night. This was the first game of the year the Celtics never trailed. The Celtics put the game away early with a 45-23 scoring edge in the 1st quarter. November 13, 2018Celtics Talk Radio Episode 215 End of the Road TripThe Celtics are finally done with the longest road trip this season. After dropping the first 2 games to the Pacers and the Nuggets which was discussed on our previous show the Celtics traveled from Denver to Phoenix to take on the Suns. The Celtics looked as though they were headed for their 3rd straight as they went down by as much as 22 points in this game. The Celtics trailed by 7 with 97 sec left in the game before managing to force overtime and then winning the overtime period 16 to 9 to win the game 116-109. Irving scored 39 points while Brown and Morris each added 17 and Rozier added 10 as they were the only Celtics to get into double figures. The Celtics then traveled to Utah to take on the Jazz the very next night in the 2nd night of a back to back set for them. The Jazz went into this game having not played in nearly 2 days. The Celtics also would go into this game without the services of Kyrie Irving who would leave the team to attend a memorial service for a family member causing Stevens to move Terry Rozier into the starting lineup for this game. The Celtics came out hot to start the game but it did not last long as the Jazz came back and ultimately had a 13 point lead going to the 4th quarter. The Celtics had their best quarter of the game in the 4th but could not stop the Jazz offense and lost this one 123-115. The team would then have a day off before they traveled to Portland to take on the Trailblazers. Kyrie Irving would return to the lineup for this game. Once again the team got down early but managed to come back and tie it in the 4th but failed to get the W moving them to 7-6 on the season and 1-4 on the road trip. Fans are frustrated calling for trades, experts are calling for a lineup change. We discuss with Bobby Krivitsky @BobbyKrivitsky. sports director of the NEW TV. The Celtics the night after our last show played the last unbeaten team in the league at that time in the Milwaukee Bucks. The Celtics would have to go through that game however without the services of Jaylen Brown. The Celtics used a big time 3 point shooting performance one that saw them hit 24 of 55 3 point attempts setting a new franchise record for 3's in a game and fell only 1 shy of tying the league record currently held by the Golden State Warriors. That performance along with 6 players getting into double figures led the Celtics to a 117-113 win giving the Bucks their first loss on the season. The Celtics would then head out on a 5 game in 9 days road trip starting in Indiana against the Pacers. The Celtics would blow a 4 point lead with only 30 sec left to go in that game allowing the Pacers to walk away with the win after Oladipo nailed a 3 pointer to give the Pacers the 1 point lead the Celtics had 1 last chance to try to win it but Haywards inbounds pass was deflected and stolen by Oladipo to seal the win for the Pacers and move the Celtics to 6-3 on the season. Kyrie Irving after the game would go on to say that teams are treating the Celtics like they are the world champions and they are bringing their A game looking to prove a point by beating the Celtics. The Celtics 2 nights later would be in Denver to take on the Nuggets. The Celtics jumped out to a hot start went up by 18 before ultimately being up by 15 after 1 quarter but they went on to lose the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters in route to a 115-107 defeat to the Nuggets. October 21, 2018Celtics Talk Radio Episode 212 The Regular Season has BegunThe 2018/2019 Boston Celtics season is now officially in Regular Season mode. The Celtics kicked off the regular season with a chance to make a huge statement as they faced 3 of their division foes 2 of which many feel are the biggest threats to the Celtics in their quest to win the Eastern Conference and get to the NBA Finals. The Celtics kicked off the regular season being the first game of the NBA Season overall as they hosted the Philadelphia 76ers this past Tuesday night in a rematch of last years 2nd round playoff matchup. Despite Irving and Hayward both looking rusty as Irving went 2/14 for 7 points while Hayward went 4/12 for 10 points and was placed in a 25 minute restriction which he will be under for the first month of the season the Celtics still blew out the 76ers 105-87 in a game that saw them take their first lead of the game with 6:34 left in the 1st quarter and never relinquish it. The Celtics 3 nights later were in Toronto to take on the Toronto Raptors which many feel due to the Raptors now having Kawhi Leonard and the fact that they were the #1 seed last year in the East that the Raptors would be the biggest threat to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference. We saw a back and forth game that saw the Celtics get the better of the Raptors in the 1st half but falter in the 2nd half and ultimately lose 113-101. The Celtics had issues rebounding in that game, issues with the officiating in the 2nd half as Leonard got the superstar treatment and the bench not showing up offensively. The Celtics would travel to NY to face the Knicks the next night. The Celtics got pushed to a final possesion game by the Knicks while playing with Hayward and losing Baynes in the 1st half. Tatum and Irving led the way. We will be joined by Rich Conte (@richconte) host of the @TechLifePod podcast, Thomas King (@celticstown) Boston Celtics writer for @The_Bball_index, and Jack-O-Lantern aka Jack Traut (@jack_traut) Boston Celtics beat writer for @T101Sports...more3h 29minPlay
October 07, 2018Celtics Talk Radio Episode 211 Kyrie Irving makes a decision on his futureThe big elephant thats been in the room for Danny Ainge, Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics since the end of last season. What is Kyrie Irving gonna do after the 2018/2019 season ends and he becomes a free agent. Will he end up in New York with Jimmy Butler as some reports say that was what Butler was trying to accomplish. Would he stay in Boston knowing that they could pay him the most money and the team was in a prime position to dominate the Eastern Conference. Or would another team come out from left field and swoop him up with a superstar pairing the All-Star PG would like. Well Kyrie Irving made sure that this season the he and his teamates will be able to focus on Banner #18 by announcing on the TD Garden floor in front of Celtics Nation at a special event that he will be resigning a long term deal to remain with the team. The deal of course will not be official until after next season is over as Irving if he does sign now or during the time the season is taking place he would lose nearly $80 million in salary over the contract. So now the team with the preseason over and opening night of the Regular Season just 9 nights away. Where does this team stand? What if anything have we been able to learn about the 15 man roster in terms of the back end of the group? What does this news do for the team in general now that they know they will not have to worry about Irving throughout this season? Do Irving and Hayward and Daniel Theis who are all returning from injuries look primed and ready for the season to begin or does something not look right with any of them. We will discuss those things as we are joined by Rich Jensen (@RichAJensen) Contributor to RedsArmy.com, Writer for Fotoreactive.com.
