Celtics Fans its officially time to start clock watching. Thats right the Celtics season is just around the corner. The Celtics will officially open up their season with training camp opening up in 18 days on September 26th. This day will not only mark the opening of the 2018/2019 Boston Celtics season. It will also mark the official returns to the lineup for All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward. Brad Stevens once training camp opens up will have quite the job to accomplish. From getting Irving and Hayward back into sync with their teammates. To having to make a decision on who the starting 5 will be when the Celtics open up the regular seaosn on October 16th. Many experts seem to feel the Celtics will have issues with its top players being willing to sacrifice their spot in the lineup due to the fact the Celtics with the return of Irving and Hayward will have 5 All-Star Caliber players and all will want major minutes. The NBA schedule is out and now all Celtics Fans have to do is wait for the tipoffs. The Celtics will begin their preseason schedule on September 28th against the Hornets. They will play 3 more games during the preseason ending with the 4th and final game on Saturday the 6th. Now for the regular season the Celtics will start the season off with a chance to prove something as they will open up the regular season on Tuesday October 16th hosting the Philadelphia 76ers. 3 nights later they will have their first matchup with Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry and the Toronto Raptors. The 76ers and the Raptors are considered the 2 biggest road blocks in the Celtics path to an NBA Finals appearance. The Celtics will play both these teams of course 4 times this season with the matchups taking place on for the 76ers October 16th in Boston, December 25th on Christmas day in Boston, February 12th in Philly and March 20th in Philly. For the Raptors its October 19th in Toronto, November 16th in Boston, January 16th in Boston and February 26th in Toronto. The Eastern Conference is wide open now and is a 3 team battle between the Celtics, Raptorsand 76ers thanks to the decision made by Lebron James to leave Cleveland and the Eastern Conference for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Celtics will take on Lebron and his new Lakers first on February 7th in Boston. Then the Celtics will travel to Los Angeles on March 9th. Many feel this years NBA Finals will end up being the Celtics and the Warriors. The first preview of that matchup will take place January 26th in Boston while the 2nd matchup which takes place in Golden State will take place March 5th. After all the reports of feeling unwanted, un appreciated, disrespected Marcus Smart has resigned with the Boston Celtics. Marcus Smart went into Free Agency expecting a major payday and was hit with a sad case of reality when no team in the league was willing to give him the nearly 15 million dollar a year salary he was aiming for. Marcus Smart and the Celtics agreed to a 4 year $52 million deal with the breakdown reportedly being 11.6 Million for the 2018/19 season. Then 12.5 Million for the 2019/20 season, 13.4 Million for the 2020/21 season and then 14.3 million for the 2021/22 season. This signing means the Celtics have resigned both of their main free agents from last years team and are pretty much set for this upcoming season a season that many have them as the favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. However the Toronto Raptors added Kawhi Leonard in exchange for Demar Derozan. Reports say Ainge offered the San Antonio Spurs big offer loaded with the Celtics best draft picks from other teams including the Kings pick for the Spurs superstar despite Leonard being an expiring contract and rumors swirling that he would not resign. Was Ainge smart to offer up that type of deal and is it justifiable for people to have the Raptors as the favorites in the East instead of the Celtics. Also this past Thursday it was reported that Kyrie Irving has been cleared for Basketball Activites which is the first step in his recovery from knee surgery. The Celtics also traded away Abdel Nader to the Thunder in a move to try anc clear some money off their books to try and get under the luxury tax line how far are they now from getting under the line after the move. Meanwhile the Celtics already made it official that Center Aron Baynes will be a member of the team for atleast 1 more season. However the situation between the Celtics and Marcus Smart has become more complex and both sides do not seem like they are rushing to the negotiating table and it has caused Marcus Smart some displeasurement with the team. Celtics Talk Radio returns for their 1st show of the 2018/19 NBA Season. The first stop is the The 2018 NBA Draft. Unlike last year where the Celtics had a treasuer chest full of Draft picks to use and they ended up taking advantage of them to be able to come away with some decent players this year the Celtics sit with only 1 draft pick which is currently the 27th pick overall which is a late 1st rounder they got no 2 rounders. Unless Danny Ainge works his magic and makes a trade of some sort to acquire more picks we will see the Celtics make only 1 selection this year which is not something we are used to. So The Celtics Talk Radio Crew will be on the air starting at 8pm Eastern Time which is 1 hour after the Draft has begun in order to be live once the Celtics make their choice at the 27th spot. The Boston Celtics season comes to an ends after losing game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals at home to Lebron James and the Cavaliers. This is the 1st time in Celtics history the team has lost a series after starting up 2-0. The Celtics got great performances from All-Star Al Horford and rookie Jayson Tatum. However Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart were MIA for most of the game. Smart and Rozier couldnt buy a bucket tonight going a combined 3/24 from the field and scoring only a combined 8 points in a combined 67 minutes. Jaylen Brown who was had been incredible also had a bad night as he went 5/18 shooting wise for 13 points in 39 minutes of action. Its obvious the pressure of a game 7 for the right to go to the NBA Finals got to these players. Meanwhile the Cavs had 4 guys score in double figures led by Lebron James who scored 35. The key to the series was to shut down Lebrons supporting cast yet the Celtics allowed Tristan Thompson, JR Smith and Jeff Green who was playing in place of All-Star Cavs big man Kevin Love to score a combined 41 points. So now what does this mean for the Celtics as they head into the offseason. The fact the Celtics pushed Lebron to 7 games despite missing their 2 best players in Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward is a good thing are the Celtics getting the credit from the media or are they all overlooking it and just praising Lebron and the Cavs. Who are the free agents for the team and what is being said over the last 48 hours in regards to whether those players will be back or not if anything is being said at all. The trend of the home teams have won every game in the Eastern Conference Finals continued as the Celtics after 2 losses in game 4 managed to come back home and win game 5 96-83 to take the 3-2 series lead and move to within 1 win of going to the NBA Finals despite not having Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Daniel Theis and Shane Larkin. The Celtics came out flat in the 1st quarter of games 3 and 4 and never managed to make a game of either one. The Celtics managed to come back home for game 5 and had a totally different 1st quarter. As they had a double digit lead after 1 32-19. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown outdueled the Cavaliers star duo of Lebron James and Kevin Love as Tatum and Brown combined for 41 points while Lebron and Love scored 40. The Celtics 2 young stars eliminated the Cavs top 2 players from being a difference maker in the game allowing Al Horford, Marcus Morris and Marcus Smart to only have to worry about the Cavs supporting cast. For the 3rd straight game in Boston the Cavs 2 star players didnt get a big performance from a 3rd player to help them as no other Cavs player made it above 8 points in this game. Meanwhile Horford scored 15 while Morris and Smart each scored 13 a piece. This game saw the Celtics and Cavs trade baskets and the lead early in the 1st quarter but after a Tatum 3 gave the Celtics a 14-12 lead with 5:38 in the 1st quarter the Celtics would not give up the lead again. Can someone put out a missing persons report for the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics after 2 dominating performances in games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Boston, Massachusetts appareantly missed their flights to Cleveland, Ohio and we saw a totally different Boston Celtics team in game 3 on Saturday night one which took a beating at the hands of the defending Eastern Conference Champs. The Celtics took a punch in the mouth early from the Cavs as the Celtics could not get the offensive going early and just 6 minutes into the game the Celtics trailed by double digits 15-4 and ultimately trailed 32-17 after 1 quarter. Despite a more better performance in quarters 2 and 3 the Celtics trailed by 24 going into the 4th and final quarter. The Celtics completely abandoned their defense that we saw in games 1 and 2 which was playing Lebron James straight up to make him beat you on his own and try to shutdown his teammates. George Hill, J.R. Smith, Kevin Love, Kyle Korver and Tristan Thompson all put up double digits giving the Cavs what they needed help for Lebron resulting in the final score of 116-86 and now the Celtics have a 2 games to 1 series lead going into Monday Nights game 4 in Cleveland. The Celtics now have gone 1-5 on the road in the playoffs while still being 9-0 at home. So what happened that caused the Celtics to get the whooping they suffered in game 3. So what was it that caused this game to go so one sided in favor of the Cavs. Was it simply the Celtics didnt show up? Was it the Cavs finally showed up on the defensive end and can it me sustained? The Celtics are up 1-0 in their best of 7 series against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics blew out the Cavs 108-83 in game 1 of the Conference Finals in a game that saw the Celtics put the game away in the very first quarter via a 36 to 18 scoring edge. The Celtics made a change to their starting lineup as Brad Stevens opted to remove Aron Baynes in exchange for Marcus Morris. A change that turned out to be crucial as Marcus Morris had his best performance of the playoffs scoring 21 points in 34 minutes on 7/12 shooting 3/4 from downtown. He along with Horford and Brown all scored over 20 points as Brown had 23 and Horford had 20. Jayson Tatum scored 16 while Terry Rozier added only 8 and Marcus Smart added only 9. Morris was added into the starting lineup not only in hopes he get his scoring going but to get another body on the floor to stop Cavs Superstar Lebron James and the Celtics went the route of using multiple guys to guard Lebron but defending him one on one and only sending double teams when Lebron was not looking and using it to deflect his passes or steal it. Otherwise it was let Lebron shoot and get what he wants while stopping the Cavs 3 point shooters. The Celtics held Lebron to 15 points on the night on 5/16 shooting. Kevin Love was the Cavs high scorer wth 17 points. The Cavs 3 point shooters in JR Smith, George Hill and Kyle Korver were held to a combined 14 points on a combined 6/19 shooting in a combined 79 minutes of action for those 3. The battle of the benches was the only thing the Celtics did not win as the Cavs bench won 35-20 in this game but due to the Celtics starters crushing the Cavs starters it didnt matter.
