A couple nights later the Celtics would be in Toronto looking to snap their 2 game skid and win the season series against the Raptors. However the Celtics would once again come up with a lackluster performance just as they did against the Bulls a few nights earlier this time however the fell behind by as much as 30 points in route to their 118-95 loss. The Celtics would have no time to sob over the loss as they would have to travel back to Boston to take on the Trailblazers the following night. February 15, 2019Celtics Talk Radio Episode 228 Where are the Celtics at the All-Star BreakIts officially the All-Star Break in the NBA. For many this is the unofficial midway point of the NBA Season. We are now less then 2 months from the start of the NBA Playoffs. The Celtics find themselves in the middle of a 5 team battle for the top 4 seeds in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics on our last show had just lost a game to Lebron James and the LA Lakers. Since then they played 3 games 1 against the LA Clippers in Boston where the Celtics blew a 28 point lead and lost 123-112 in regulation. The Celtics also lost Kyrie Irving midway through the game to an injury. The loss saw the Celtics booed off their home floor by the Boston Fans. Marcus Morris would then call the team out after the game and reports of the players not getting along behind the scenes started to come out. 3 nights later the Celtics were in Philly to take on the new look 76ers. Yet despite the trades that made several analysts think the 76ers had passed Boston in whos better and despite no Kyrie Irving and no Aron Baynes the Celtics were victorious 112-109 moving to 3-0 against the 76ers on the season and clinching a very important tiebreaker over the 76ers that could play a major role in getting homecourt later in the season. The next night the Celtics were at home to take on the Pistons in the final game before the break. It was announced that on top of Irving and Baynes out Rozier and Williams would also sit. Yet Despite a back to back vs a rested Pistons team and a 34 to 15 free throw disadvantage Boston won making it 2 wins in a row going into the break. So we will discuss that big win over the 76ers and take a further look at the standings and the rest of the Celtics schedule. We will also discuss what way we hope the standings will end the season in and what it the best matchup for Boston. February 08, 2019Celtics Talk Radio Episode 227 NBA TRADE DEADLINE SPECIALOne of the days that Danny Ainge has been waiting for has finally come. February 7th the day of the NBA Trade Deadline for the 2018/2019 season. The reason for this day being so big for Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics. They now know whether or not they would get a chance to make an offer to trade for New Orleans Pelicans Superstar big man Anthony Davis. All season long the Celtics and several other teams have been watching to see how the season of the New Orleans Pelicans would go as the the reports were if the Pelicans didnt make a deep run in the playoffs Davis would inform the team he would not resign with them and ask to be traded. The top 2 teams many felt would be ready to make and offer to trade for Davis if that happened were the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. Well just last week after falling to the 13th spot in the Western Conference Anthony Davis officially made it known he would not resign with the team and would look for a trade instead. So it has been 10 days since the requests was made and now the deadline is gone and no more trades will be allowed this season so where do we stand. Is Davis still with the Pelicans meaning come June the Celtics will be able to try and make an offer to bring him to Boston or have the Pelicans dealt him before the Celtics could get involved. What is the latest on Kyrie Irving and his future with the Celtics? Some reports have said Irvings status with the team could determine if Davis is even willing to consider the Celtics so is Irving having 2nd thoughts? What about the Celtics bench did Danny Ainge do anything to help that issue knowing many feel the bench was this teams achillies heel? What about the other top teams in the league did anyone improve or get worse we will let you know all the trades that were made and let you hear what the experts are saying. Well this past Saturday night we got to see for the 1st of 2 times this season a preview of that possible matchup as the Celtics welcomed the Golden State Warriors to Boston. Both teams came into this game on winning streaks and health. The Celtics and Warriors put on a show in a game that went back and forth and came down to the final minute unfortunately for the Celtics it ended with the Warriors winning it 115-111. The Celtics actually outscored the Warriors 97 to 86 in baskets made however a 34 to 15 edge in free throw attemps allowed the Warriors to outscore the Celtics by 15 at the line in route to the win. This snapped the Celtics overall 5 game winning steak and their 10 game home winning streak. 2 days later news broke that Anthony Davis informed the Pelicans that he would not be resigning with them after his contract expires and that he wanted a trade. January 25, 2019Celtics Talk Radio Episode 225 Celtics look for payback against the HeatOn our last show the Celtics had just gotten arguably their biggest win of the season by defeating the Toronto Raptors. Since then the Celtics have played 4 games. The first saw them knock off the Memphis Grizzlies 122 to 116. Kyrie Irving score 38 points in total 5 Celtics got into double figures and the Celtics had 29 assists. The Celtics would then travel overnight to take on the Atlanta Hawks the next night in the 2nd night of a back to back. The Celtics would be without Gordon Hayward who was away for personal reasons. The Hawks coming off 3 days rest came out on fire against the Celtics taking a double digit lead and pretty much getting their way until midway through the 3rd quarter. Marcus Smart sparked a Celtics run before being ejected after an alercation with Hawks small forward Deandre Bembry. Smart appeared to throw a punch in Bembrys direction and had to be escorted off the floor by security, The Celtics would take the lead midway through the 4th and win it 113-105. 2 nights later the Celtics would host the Miami Heat. Before the game the NBA announced a $35,000 fine for Marcus Smart for his actions 2 nights earlier but Smart would not be suspended. For the 2nd straight matchup against the Heat the Celtics starting 5 dominated the Miami starters but the Celtics bench got dominated by the Miami bench. However despite the bench's struggles the Celtics starting 5 led the team to a 107-99 victory. 2 nights later the Celtics looked for its 5th win in a row as they hosted the Cavaliers. January 17, 2019Celtics Talk Radio Episode 224 Celtics vs Raptors in BEANTOWNThe Celtics since our last show played 3 games. 2 of which were on the road against Orlando and the Nets before hosting the Toronto Raptors. The Celtics this season have struggled just to stay consistent and it continued during the recent stretch. The Celtics suffered a 2 point loss to the Orlando Magic in a game that saw once again the starting 5 outscore their counterparts but saw the Celtics bench get outscored by their counterparts and ultimately cost the Celtics the win. After the game Kyrie Irving made comments that appeared to be him blaming players like Rozier, Brown and Tatum for the teams inconsistent play. 2 nights laters those players had a chance to respond as the Celtics were in Brooklyn to take on the Nets they would have to do it without Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart. Terry Rozier and Jaylen Brown would replace Irving and Smart in the starting lineup both have been vocal about feeling they deserved to start. So this was their chance to prove if they deserved to have Irving and Smarts spot like they have made it seem they have been claiming. However they were destroyed by Nets starting PG D'Angelo Russell while Rozier only mustered up 7 points. Many questioned if Irving was really out due to injury or if he was disciplined by the team or if this was the teams way of trying to end the issues in the locker room by forcing Brown and Rozier to start in place of Irving and Smart against a legit playoff contender and to let the result be the way to prove if its the veterans or the young players who have been right. 2 nights later the Celtics would be back home as they hosted the Toronto Raptors. Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart and Aron Baynes would return for this game. The Celtics were victorious 117-108 knocking off the top team in the East. This game saw Irving, Hayward, Horford and Tatum all score 16 or more to lead the Celtics to the win. The first saw the Celtics welcome back Kyrie Irving and Marcus Morris to the lineup as the team faced off with the Brooklyn Nets. Brad Stevens prior to the game had some good news for the team and Celtics fans as he reported that there was a chance that Celtics big man Aron Baynes could possibly return next week to the lineup. As for the game itself the Nets were shorthanded as they had 6 players out for the game. The Celtics had 8 players score in double figures as the Celtics blew out the Nets by 21 points via the final score of 116-95. The Celtics would then have a day off before they hosted the Indiana Pacers who would be playing the Celtics on the 2nd night of a back to back after facing the Cavaliers. The Celtics treated the game against the Pacers like it was a playoff game and a chance to make a statement to the rest of the league and had arguably their best game of the season as they led from the opening tip and the Celtics blew out the Pacers 135 to 108 in a game that featured 7 Celtics get into double figures. Saw the Celtics bench score 73 points with every player scoring and it allowing Stevens to rest the key players as they would head to Miami the next night. The Celtics however in partiuclar their bench players appeared to leave their offensive game in Boston as the Heat blew out the Celtics in a game that saw the Celtics bench get destroyed by their counterparts in the scoring department squandering a major scoring edge the starters had over the Miami starters in route to this loss. So which game said more about where the Celtics are right now the win over the Pacers or the loss to the Heat. The Crew will be joined by 3 special guest. Smart was able to return to game action however Morris did not return and Brad Stevens did not know what Morris's timetable would be. December 29, 2018Celtics Talk Radio Episode 221 Christmas Day Showdown with PhillyIts the most wonderful time of the year thats right its Christmas and the Celtics are 1 of 10 teams that were chosen to compete. On our last show the Celtics had lost 3 in a row, had lost Aron Baynes to a broken hand and the Celtics players and coaches opted to call a meeting after the 3rd loss making people wonder if everything was alright in Beantown. The Celtics quickly answered that question just a few nights later when Marcus Morris and Al Horford both returned to the lineup and the Celtics blew out the Hornets leading by 33 at one point in route to a 119-103 win in a game that saw no player on the roster play more then 28 minutes. 2 nights later the Celtics on Christmas day would welcome the Philadelphia 76ers. This was the 1st time the Celtics played the 76ers since the Celtics beat them by 18 back on opening night on October 16. The Celtics and 76ers would play a back and forth battle that saw Embiid and Kyrie Irving go toe to toe with each other as Embiid taking advantage of Baynes not playing use his size over Morris and Horford to his advantage in route to 34 points while Irving score 40 for the Celtics which included 2 big 3's back to back to take the Celtics from down 2 to up 4 in OT and the 76ers never threatened after that. The Celtics won it 121 to 114 making it 2 wins in a row since the return of Horford and Morris to the lineup and made it a 2-0 lead for them over the 76ers in the season series. The Celtics winning streak would not last long as 2 nights later they would lose to James Harden and the Rockets who were without the services of Chris Paul. December 23, 2018Celtics Talk Radio Episode 220 The injury bug strikes the Celtics againOn our recent show the Celtics were on a 7 game winning streak since then someone must have let a black cat out in the Celtics locker room cause the Celtics have had some bad luck come their way since our last show. The Celtics on our last show were on a 7 game winning streak they would push it to 8 games by beating the Atlanta Hawks 129-108 in Boston. The Celtics however would have their win streak snapped the very next night as they traveled to Detroit to take on the Pistons and lost 113-103. The Celtics would then have 3 days off before playing at home against the Phoenix Suns however the team would announced that Marcus Morris would not be able to play due to knee soreness meaning both he and Al Horford would be out. The Celtics big man situation would only get worse in the very first few minutes of the game as Aron Baynes would suffer a broken hand and would leave the game this left the Celtics with only Daniel Theis and Robert Williams on the roster as bigs and allowed the Suns to take full advantage on the glass and in the paint area to win 111-103. This was the worst time for an injury like this to happen given the Celtics upcoming schedule will feature some of the NBA's most elite bigs. The first would be just 2 nights later as the Celtics would host the Milwaukee Bucks and their star big man Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Celtics would go into that game without Horford, Baynes and Morris leaving the Celtics without any stars at the Center or Power Forward position to battle the Bucks gigantic duo or Antetokounmpo and it cost the Celtics as the Bucks dominated the glass and the paint in route to a 13 point win. The Celtics now face a situation of playing some of the leagues top teams and dont have Horford, Baynes and Morris to help. How are they gonna get through this? What is Brad Stevens saying about the injuries. We will ask our guest for the show are Derek Machen (@Machen55) of Spurszone, Chris Langseth (@Hans02421) Celtics Journalist....more3h 47minPlay
