The story that unfolds in the book of Ezra is a fascinating one. The Israelites have been in Babylonian exile for over 50-years and finally get the greenlight from King Cyrus to go back to Jerusalem and rebuild the city. The first three chapters set the tone for the entire story and it all comes down to ensuring the foundation is strong. Exile can be the start of renewal but only if the foundation is right.

Dating can be a real struggle and honestly, it’s not something the church talks enough about. This reality has led to a lot of frustration and confusion about how people following Jesus should explore falling in love with someone else. Like it, hate it or try to argue about it; love always comes with strings attached. It was actually designed by God to work like that. In the year 2000, a book based on 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 was released called The Prayer of Jabez. It went on to become a bestseller in 2001, selling over 9 million copies worldwide. This prayer is one that many in the church are familiar with, and many outside of the church have also heard about. Even so, few have likely considered the story behind the prayer and how it teaches us to pray through our pain. When we pray, we invite God’s presence to become bigger than our pain. This sermon explores how to do exactly that.

In the book of Exodus 25 we see God tell Moses to build a sanctuary so He can meet with His people. That sanctuary becomes what is referred to in the Old Testament as The Tabernacle. There are seven unique pieces of furniture in The Tabernacle and each of them can teach us how to approach God in prayer.
