Porter comes to the Pilots with nearly 30 years of collegiate coaching experience with stops at West Texas A&M, Aurora (Ill.), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), North Central (Ill.), and most recently at Wheaton (Ill.)

In 16 years as a head coach, Porter has amassed 312 wins and won seven regular season conference titles and has made five postseason national tournament appearances. In his two years at Aurora, he led his teams to 36 wins and two NIIC conference championships and made an appearance in the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen in 1995. He established AU records for most wins in a season (22), most points scored in a season (2,137), and most points scored in a single game (111). He was named the NIIC Coach of the Year each season.

As the head man at Olivet Nazarene for 14 seasons, Porter led the Tigers to five CCAC regular season titles and three CCAC tournament championships. He set ONU records for consecutive home court wins (29) and went undefeated in CCAC play at 17-0 in 2012. His up-tempo offense led the NAIA in scoring seven times in a span of eight seasons and he was named the CCAC Coach of the Year five times. He was inducted into the Olivet Nazarene Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.

In all, Porter has coached 35 All-Conference players, six Conference MVPs, and 38 Academic All-Americans. His teams hold 16 national statistical records, leading the nation in scoring 11 times and setting college basketball's single season records at any level in both steals (735) and scoring average (104.1).

Dave Senecal has been a physical education specialist in Paulding County since 1997. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Kennesaw State University and earned his master’s degree in Physical Education Curriculum and Instruction from Western Kentucky University. He opened Nebo elementary school where he built a well-respected program and earned Teacher of the Year in 2012. He pursued an opportunity to open P.B. Ritch Middle School in Paulding County in 2012 and has built an award winning program there. Dave was recently named Teacher of the Year for P.B. Ritch Middle School. He has served as the volunteer elementary physical education professional development coordinator for his district. In 2008, Dave was selected to be on a team of sixteen physical education specialists to write the current Georgia Physical Education Standards. Dave is currently serving on the Paulding County Wellness Committee to revise and rewrite the county wellness plan. Dave has served as recreation chair and VP of the General Division for the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance(GAHPERD). Dave received the 2010 GAHPERD Recreation Specialist of the Year award and he was recently named GAHPERD Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year and SHAPE AMERICA Southern District Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. He has served on the Southern Off-road Bicycle Association (SORBA) executive board and served as president of the non-profit mountain bike club Paulding SORBA for 6 years. Dave has been instrumental in the design and installation of 20+ miles of recreational trails in and around Paulding County.

Dave has been able to secure multiple grants that have led to classroom sets of equipment that allowed many middles school students to experience activities that they would otherwise never have had the opportunity to experience in their community such as rugby, disc golf, longboarding, circus arts and mountain biking. Dave has presented at several local, district and state workshops. Dave and his wife also own a dance school that teaches over 300 students on a weekly basis. J.D. Hughes has taught elementary physical education since 1995 in Douglasville, GA. He currently teaches at Mirror Lake Elementary School. J.D. has received numerous awards including 2015 Georgia and Southern District SHAPE America Elementary PE Teacher of the Year, Kennesaw State’s Outstanding Student, State University of West Georgia’s Specialist Student Award and Outstanding Cooperating Teacher, Bright Star and Mirror Lake Elementary Teacher of the Year, along with the GAHPERD Acknowledgement Award and Share the Wealth Puckett-Merriman Award.

J.D. provides a challenging yet developmentally appropriate physical education learning environment striving for motor skill and social skills development, physical fitness and cognitive awareness as recognized by SHAPE standards. He works with students and families to promote physical fitness before and after school hours through F.I.T.T. Club and Roadrunner’s Club. He also serves as a cooperating teacher and mentor for local colleges. He is a National Board Certified Teacher (2001), holds a Master’s and Education Specialist’s degree. In this episode of our Championship Vision Podcast, Coach Furtado talks with Coach Eric Flannery who has been the St. Edward Eagles head basketball coach since 1996 where he has won over 400 games in his career. Coach Flannery earned a bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University while simultaneously beginning his coaching career at St, Ed’s. His basketball teams at St. Ed’s have won two state championships in 1998 and 2014. Flannery was named the 2007 Associated Press Ohio Coach of the Year.

Along with his basketball success at St. Ed’s, Coach Flannery has been involved with USA Basketball since the early 2000s . He helped coach the USA U-16 team to a gold medal in the FIBA Americas tournament during the summer of 2013 in Uruguay and the U-17 team to the gold medal in the World Championships in 2014 in Dubai.

Coach Flannery has helped more than 15 former players reach the NCAA Division I basketball ranks and has coached three NBA Draft picks. Coach Flannery was an assistant coach in the 2008 Jordan Brand Classic and was also the head coach of the victorious West Team in the 2010 McDonald’s All-American Game.

Details: After nine years of coaching Franklin, Audrey Taylor’s team put it all together in perhaps the greatest girls basketball season in state history. The Warriors were the third team to have an undefeated record in New Jersey history, the most wins of any undefeated team, and a Tournament of Champions victory.

The team now has three TOC appearances in a row. After going 12-17 Taylor’s first season, the team has progressively improved, and after going 14-10 four seasons ago, Franklin has gone 85-15 since.

“(We created) a standard to be tough, defend, and play with your heart, with passion,” Taylor said. “A lot of my kids thrive off of my energy so I would think that I set a standard and it was a winning standard and based on the things that we were going to do, we were going to defend, we were going to rebound the ball and we were going to be aggressive on offense.”

She did this while working through the death of her mom, who died during the season. Taylor said the empathy and love of her players helped her move through it.

“They’ve seen me be strong for so long that they finally were able to give that back to me. They kept me smiling, kept me encouraged and honestly it just felt good to be around them,” she said. “I give the credit to them and just the kids that they are”

Through all that, the team never lost, dismantling opponents with a well-rounded cast led by McDonald’s All American Diamond Miller.

Taylor helped her players mature on and off the court as they proved themselves as one of the best teams in the country.

Don Showalter for a 10th time served as head coach of the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team October minicamp.  

He also is a 10-time USA Basketball gold medalist head coach while serving as head coach of USA men's U16 and U17 national teams from 2009-2018. In May 2016, he was hired as a coach director, USA Basketball youth and sport development division.

Most recently, Showalter led the 2018 USA Basketball Men’s U17 National Team to a 7-0 record and gold medal at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup. In recognition of his leadership, he 

was named as a co-recipient of the 2018 USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year award, an honor he shared with USA U17 women's head coach Carla Berube. 

Showalter and Berube also shared the 2017 USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year honor.

A high school coach for 42 years, Showalter's 2018 USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year recognition was his 10th-straight such honor. He owns a perfect 62-0 record at the helm of USA Basketball U16 and U17 teams since the inaugural U16 competition in 2009.

He has led the 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 USA men’s U16 national teams to gold medals, as well as top finishes for the 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 FIBA U17 World Cups.

Further, Showalter was the U.S. Olympic Committee 2012 Volunteer Coach of the Year.

In addition to winning gold medals for the USA, Showalter has led nine previous fall USA Junior National Team minicamps each October at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which help prepare the USA men for future competitions.

Showalter was the USA head coach in the 1998 Nike Hoop Summit and for the North Team in the 1998 USA Basketball Men’s Youth Development Festival. He was the coordinator for a youth clinic hosted by USA Basketball in New York in 2004, and he served as chair of the USA Basketball Cadet and Youth Committee (now the Developmental National Team Committee) from 2001-08.

Showalter compiled a 601-346 overall record (.635 winning percentage) during his 42 seasons as a high school head coach, including 16 district titles and six state tournament appearances.

In 2015-16, his fourth and final year at Iowa City High School, his team finished 13-10, was a co-champion of the Mississippi Division of the Mississippi Valley Conference, and Showalter was named the 2016 Mississippi Valley Division Coach of the Year in the MVC.

While at Mid-Prairie High School (Iowa) from 1984-85 to 2011-12, Showalter tallied a 446-202 (.688) record, and in eight seasons (1976-84) as the head coach at Central Elkader High School (Iowa), he totaled a 108-63 (.632) record.

Showalter earned the 2004 National Association of Basketball Coaches Advocacy Award. In 2009, he was honored by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association as the National Coach of the Year, and he was an Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year 10 times (1981, 1982, 1991, 1995, 1996, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2016).

Jerry Petitgoue(C'63), of Galena, Illinois is “far more than a living legend in Wisconsin high school basketball,” according to the Janesville Gazette. Petitgoue earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education from the University of Dubuque. He is the winningest basketball coach in Wisconsin high school history with over 900 victories

In 2012 the University of Dubuque announced the establishment of the Jerry Petitgoue Award. The award honors an alumnus coach who best represents Petitgoue's tenacity, strong work ethic, and care for athletes of any age, at any level.

After graduating from UD, Petitgoue started his career as a social studies teacher and basketball coach in Gratiot, Wisconsin, where he lead the basketball team to a 62-20 record in four seasons. He also taught and coached at Lena-Winslow High School, Galena High School, and Cuba City High School. Petitgoue started as Cuba City’s head coach in 1971 finishing with a 20-3 record. Today, with the leadership of Petitgoue, the team has a 784-181 record since that time. In 2012-13 the team finished with a 26-1 record which took the team to the WIAA state tournament for the second year in a row and the eighth time overall.

He has 29 conference championships at Cuba City and three State Championships at Cuba City (1981, 1991 and 1998). Cuba City was the state runner-up in 2012.

Petitgoue is an active community member. He serves on the boards for: American Trust and Savings Bank (Cuba City), Community Development Board Member (Cuba City), and Mercy Hospital and Medical Center (Dubuque). He has been the Director of the Tri-State Basketball Camps for the past 20 years and has served as the past-president and present Executive Director of the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.

 Jerry and his wife Joan have three children: Michele, Mark, and Ryan. The Petitgoue’s have six grandchildren who they adore. In 1968, he earned his master’s degree in history from the UW-Platteville. 

Greg Tonagel begins his 14th season at the helm of the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team in 2018-19.

Tonagel and the Wildcats have won three NAIA Division II National Championships in a five year spans with titles in 2014, 2016, and 2018. Indiana Wesleyan won the 2014 red banner in unprecedented fashion as they became the first team to win all five of their games at the national tournament by double digit. In 2016, Indiana Wesleyan defeated the top two seeds in the tournament to claim the title. IWU beat four top-15 teams in 2018 en route to the title, including No. 1 IU East and No. 7 Saint Francis in the championship game, the fourth win over the Cougars during the season.

Tonagel is a three-time NABC/NAIA Division II National Coach of the Year.

In his 13 season as a head coach, Tonagel has already led Indiana Wesleyan to three national championships, one Final Four, five Elite Eight finishes, and nine Crossroads League regular season championships, including seven straight from 2009-15. Tonagel has three Crossroads League Tournament championships as well with wins in 2010, 2015, and 2018.

Indiana Wesleyan has finished three seasons as the No. 1-ranked team in NAIA Division II. Tonagel's teams have spent time in the NAIA top-five in each of the last 12 seasons.

In 13 years as head coach, Tonagel is the winningest coach in program history. He has the highest winning percentage (.786), most wins (361), most NAIA national tournament victories (29), most national tournament appearances (11), most Crossroads League regular season championships (9), and most Crossroads League Tournament championships (3).

The former Valparaiso (Ind.) University point guard, known for his hard work and energy, has brought those characteristics to the basketball program. Tonagel was introduced as head men’s basketball coach on April 1, 2005. Drawing from experience gained from leading the Valparaiso Crusaders to four NCAA tournament appearances as a starting point guard, along with the tutelage of mentor Homer Drew, Tonagel has helped orchestrate a new era of Wildcat basketball.

Prior to Tonagel’s hiring, the Wildcats had won seven games and finished last in the Mid-Central College Conference. The program improved by 10 wins under Tonagel’s tutelage in his first year on the bench and reached the NAIA Elite Eight in his second season. Making a name for himself when it comes to program building, Tonagel has done it through sound developmental teaching and high caliber recruiting.

Much of the unprecedented success of the Wildcats can be attributed to the culture Tonagel built at IWU.  The IWU culture is built around two biblically transforming principles; I am Third and Fearless. "It’s our core belief that God has created us for greatness when we realize our potential in becoming “third” and “fearless.” What I have come to realize is that I don’t just coach basketball, I coach people” comments Tonagel. This has helped the influence of IWU basketball to extend far beyond the court. Tonagel and his staff have been committed to using basketball as a platform for discipleship.

Prior to his current position, Tonagel served as Director of Basketball Operations at Valparaiso University, where he played in four NCAA Tournaments. He also led his LaPorte High School team to the last single class state finals in 1997. Greg and his wife, Amy, along with their three children Jace, William, and Allie reside in Marion. He is active in a number of organizations and causes, most notably his church.
