Episode 13 is out and available for listening pleasures. This episode is called Cut Her Hair...But Not Her Nigga. The title is a reference to how men tend to believe that they have authority and dictatorship over women of color, in terms of their hair. And believe it or not, this is not the only space a woman exists in where she is being told how to wear her hair. So BJ decided to educate himself, and others, on how to treat our women in this struggle with consideration, empathy, and education to their struggle.

This episode features a beautiful queen by the name of Klashae of Duolystic Podcast. She has also started a solo endeavor, called Diary of An Afro Latina Podcast, where she discusses and experiences of both African American and Latina women. One of these issues is the issue we are discussing today. We talked about her growing up in both a black and latina environment. How the cultures view her hair growing up. She told us how her heart was connected to her Black Family immediately...but in researching her latina roots...she developed a sense of pride in her other side. And once she done that, she discovered a sense of responsibility to her own daughter, that she is raising with self worth, pride in her heritage, and of course, her hair.

We talk about upbringing as well. Discussing school and church as children growing up. How we were DEEP CONDITIONED to believe that we needed to have our hair straightened in order to fit in. We talked about Easter Sunday, and how systemic it was to our black girls groing up to believe that straight hair was (as the church states) "decent and in order"...We talked about PROTECTIVE STYLING as well. How we would wear certain hairstyles just to fit into a demographic who we felt set the standard. This conversation is loaded with so much information concerning what we donned the "Hair ISM" struggle.

Listen as we discuss some of the key issues in hair politics for women of color. I really enjoyed this conversation, the guest, and the overall message that this sends to men. Our women have issues we will never understand. So, before you go and make an unwarranted comment or suggestion about her hair...make sure you aren't the reason her hair is falling out first. BJ is excited to release this brand new episode of Change The Subject titled "Good In Every Hood". Days after the untimely passing of Neighborhood Hero/Successful rapper Nipsey Hussle...the world has reacted to his demise in an overwhelming way. In such a way NOW, that we have to look at the hood differently than we once did. Why would someone take the life of a man trying to do good for the hood? Especially for all the bad things that happen in the hood that no one cares about...why take the life of the man that did the most good in the hood he was from?

I found somebody who is official, and street, to discuss this thoroughly. None other than self proclaimed Washed God and Podcast Bully himself, Syer of The Officially Street Podcast. We had a very real conversation about what it means to be "Good In Every Hood"....how we are supposed to move around in places we either are/are not from. How we can be comfortable when navigating throughout the streets we come from. Interesting enough, we find that Nipsey's passing has allowed people the right to FEEL again. It has awakened our humanity on so many levels. So BJ and Syer decided to talk about the hoods that matter most, and how it feels when we are good in every hood we go in:

But this isn't the typical hood conversation. Leave it to BJ to take it beyond the streets. We talked about every hood the black man is effected in: His MANHOOD...BROTHERHOOD...FATHERHOOD...LIVELIHOOD...and NEIGHBORHOOD. We even talked about FALSEHOOD too!!! We all know a person who claims to be something that they are not. So we dropped some game on them too. Syer gave stories, knowledge and personal experience to back up every point of detail in this conversation. When I tell you that this conversation is loaded with so much thought and intellect...you just have to listen to believe it. It's REALLY Good.

We also talked briefly about the things that make men uncomfortable. How as black men we still have not completely embraced being affectionate with one another. Something as simple as how we hug tells a lot about where we are emotionally in the confines of our man and brotherhoods. And we also touched on how women are effected in our hoods as well. Women deal the hoods the same as men do. Lastly, we talked about the interactions between the gay and heterosexual male. How our hood language and slang may be taken too literal. Is "pause" and "no homo" really necessary if you are secure in your manhood? Are the LGBT entirely too sensitive? Or has the hood made us extremely hardened? We touched this as well.

Hello there boys and girls! Welcome back to a new episode of CTS! A little early than anticipated, but BJ was eager to share this brand new episode titled "Put Her Second Sometimes"....it features my good brother and business partner CEO Haize of The Awakened Soul Podcast (and many other shows!!! Very Busy Guy lol!!)...This was an incredible audio experience about men putting priority on themselves and their needs.

Often, we as men experience responsibility before experiencing the abilities to think, choose, feel, and do things for ourselves. And as a result, we lose ourselves along the way. BJ and Haize discuss various things that cover a range of neglect that an actual man experiences throughout his life. You'll be surprised to know how much the man has been ignored from inception. We take responsibility in changing that narrative.

The similarity in BJ and Haize is apparent as they discuss growing up with military fathers. The responsibility of helping mom, and the siblings. This is where the neglect starts. As the conversation progresses, we talk about the role of a father in his son's self awareness. How effective he should be, even in a household he isn't apart of. How young boys carry the responsibilities and sins of a father, when he isn't emotionally present. Not only does your child inherit your name, traits, and habits...he can also inherit your responsibilty as a man as well. Much more than a typical kid may be able to handle.

We talked relationships with mothers, girlfriends, and children. How self awareness makes a huge difference to how you handle each relationship. Haize speaks on being a single father, coaching young kings how to be emotionally intelligent, even in the mist of reoccuring reminders of his own anger issues. Leading his kings by example, and giving them power by his allowance of his children to feel things encourages an excellent dialogue about men prioritizing themselves.

Episode 10 of Change The Subject is called My Sexy Ass Sister In Christ. It talks about the issues of sexism in church. How the men are responsible for the marginalizing of women when it comes to preaching, ministry, agency and clothing in the church. There is a belief that how we control women in the realm of spirituality determines how satisfied God is with our sanctification. We know this to be completely untrue.

I brought along a dear friend for this conversation. A spiritually gifted woman by the name of Ashley Richardson. She has a very unique story of not even growing up in the church. But overtime, the love of God and church has become very focal in her life. She is an administrator at the University of Michigan, and is also a student at Moody Bible Seminary. She has been very transparent with her walk and missteps in her life. We even discuss a few of them in this episode.

We talked about the views and actions of men both in her corporate and spiritual realm. Her relationship with the leader of her church, being a very well known pastor and pillar in Detroit. How cautious she has to be, even being mentored by the man of God, because of how many misconceptions there are with single women. We discuss some of BJ's experiences as well. How at one time, he was exposed to sexuality in church that could have encouraged a sexist adult had not God reared his life and perspectives in a completely different direction.

This was a very candid and transparent conversation about the humanity of sex that the church is still very much reluctant to address. There is so much sin, temptation, and mis-education in the church that the body of Christ has yet to own. This will not be your average church conversation. But we are very peculiar people, right? So we discussed something out of the ordinary. Tune in to this episode and open your mind. This was a very good conversation!!

We have finally arrived to a new episode from BJ and Change The Subject. Thank you for your patience and support. A few months felt like a year, but it was a necessary break. And ironically, what I learned from the break was that i didn't need a break at all. I needed to focus. So in this very brief episode, that's what we discussed.

From dealing with distaste in content quality, self doubts, and overwhelming responsibilities....BJ forgot what was most important (as we all do)!!! Being happy, healthy, organized, and focused will definitely improve your quality of life. So those were the practices that got us back HERE...ready to work and in the best creative space to create content.

BJ discusses where he been, and the lessons learned. How he has been applying himself. Introduces the new ventures he's been working on while being away. Also the lessons learned when it applies to a "Comeback"...Its not always necessary to revamp every time you miss a mark. It simply requires you to dust yourself off and try again. We talk about the process of staging a return. Not feeling the same energy of the initial introduction you made could put a damper on your energy and perspective. In this minisode, a lesson was still learned. Very short, sweet, and still a good point.

Welcome back to Change The Subject!!! It's been a minute, but I believe the time away has afforded us a great episode. Titled, "Be Great With Your Money", today's conversation deals with the topic of finance. BJ invited a good brother, by the name of James D Anderson, to school him to the baby steps to developing a good credit history. James answered every question with patience, which is exactly what it takes to build a great credit score(along with a strategy as well!!!!...don"t forget that part).

In this conversation, we talk about several stages of credit building. From educational goals establishing debts...to not understanding what collateral is. We talk about a concept called "More Month Than Money", where you have more weeks in a month where nothing is coming in. So many necessary issues in finance were addressed. Im sure that if you tune in, you'll be able to pick out an issue you are currently facing, and find a course of action to take to dissolve your debt.

This was a podcast "finance basics" course to basically gain an idea of how to approach finances moving forward. Today's episode is titled "The Future Is Feminine"...and it features @mohna.lyssaa and @penroseeames ... the conversation touches on the current state of feminism, and the direction it will take the world. Now that women have taken reign over entertainment, politics, sports, etc...Women have come forward, and are dominating. And men have become fragile, emotional, desperate, and even envious...simply because the tides are turning. Is it possible that men are uncomfortable with the future taking shape, simply because the women are in the forefront? And refuse to be silenced, and placed in the position that men now stand in....which is the background? Have men now begin to understand what it means to be a female, in a male dominated world?

We have a layered conversation that touches several topics. We talk about communication. How men feel like women have an unorthodox way of communicating, that only they understand. Is the possibility of your misunderstanding due to lack of listening? Maybe this is why they are screaming at society to be heard. And the actions are backing the voices.

We also talk about women in leadership. How it may be time to accept women running things...like the home...the White House...and many other institutions. Has the man's time come to an end?....and now it's our turn to understand what feminism feels like?

This is a multi layered conversation with great friends that will definitely entertain. So the next time you hear the statement "The Future Is Female" understand that that is not a gender specific statement. It simply means that the direction we will follow and inherit going forward will be of a woman. We will walk into the future, guided by the light and wisdom of a woman. And if you men are smart, you will follow suit....or SKIRT!!!!!
