Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre is celebrating the demise of Energy East- though there are no beneficiaries in Quebec other than his ego.

TransCanada has canceled plans for the proposed Energy East pipeline and Eastern Mainline projects. The Energy East pipeline was a plan to ship Alberta oil sands production as far east as Saint John, New Brunswick. The project would have brought 4500 kilometers of pipeline to transport 1.1 million barrels of crude oil per day from Alberta and Saskatchewan.

TransCanada said the cancellation was a “business decision.”

The conversation continues about the cancellation of the Energy East project with UCP leadership candidate Jason Kenny. “This is absolutely tragic.”

 Last night’s United Conservative Party debate was hosted by none other than our friend Rob Breakenridge. There are two more debates scheduled before a leader is chosen, and this time the four men squared off, focusing on leadership, agriculture, and social issues.

 But, the big story to come out of the leadership race today was that candidate Jeff Callaway has dropped out...and is endorsing Jason Kenny.

A man from Western Minnesota named Danny Lee Bettcher has been arrested for the 28th time driving while drunk. Bettcher could now face a maximum sentence of seven years, two-thirds of that sentence spent in prison. He’s already spent four years in jail for a previous drunk driving offence! Also, two happy stories from the Las Vegas attack that we’ve been talking about so much this week.

It’s been a really hard past few weeks in the news - from Hurricanes, Earthquakes, the attack in Edmonton and the Vegas shooting, we’ve been covering some tough subjects.
