A U.K. girl found a sword in the same lake that, according to legend, is the resting place of the magical sword Excalibur. Plain white billboards declaring that “Netflix is a joke” appeared in New York and Los Angeles yesterday. It turns out the signage is part of a marketing campaign from Netflix. An Alberta boy is walking 100 kilometres in 100 days to support his many family members who either have kidney disease or are kidney donors.

The Bank of Canada has increased its benchmark interest rate to one per cent with its second 25-basis-point increase since July.   The bank insists future rate decisions are not predetermined and will be guided by upcoming economic data releases and financial market developments.  It's also predicting the pace of economic growth will moderate in the second half of the year.

Irma is the now the strongest Atlantic hurricane in recorded history.
The Category 5 storm has already smashed through several tiny islands in the Caribbean with 185-mile-per-hour winds. The Bank of Canada issued its second rate hike in two months, pushing the overnight lending rate to 1.0 per cent. If you had some cell phone trouble today, you might blame the sun.. it gave off a huge solar flare early this morning. 

Hundreds of homes have burned and nearly half a billion dollars has been spent, but officials say there's no end in sight for British Columbia's devastating wildfire season. There are still fires burning throughout Western Canada. Mike Flanagan is a professor of Wildland fire at the University of Alberta and joins us for an update and discussion on what could be causing this particularly devastating fire season.

Disturbing details emerged Tuesday in the trial for a Calgary mother accused in the death of her developmentally disabled daughter. Patricia Couture, 70, is charged with criminal negligence causing death, in the death of her 38-year-old daughter, Melissa.
