In the 2015 election campaign, the Liberals promised to eliminate the small-business deduction, which would have meant the same, single corporate income tax rate for everyone. What the Liberal government is proposing now is entirely different and potentially much worse according to Jack Mintz a columnist for Financial Post and President’s Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary.

Florida Governor Rick Scott is warning that residents in South Florida only have hours left to evacuate.  Hurricane Irma is expected to rip into the state over the weekend. One of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded in Mexico struck off the country's southern coast last night. The magnitude 8.1 quake toppled hundreds of buildings, triggered tsunami evacuations and sent panicked people fleeing into the streets.  The Trudeau government says it is putting aside 274-million dollars to support policing and border efforts that come along side the plan to legalize recreational marijuana use.

1.While Hurricane Irma is approaching the States, those who just lived through the flooding in Houston are advising people to stay up to date on their social media.

2.Many Canadians were also caught up in Tropical Storm Lidia, which hit parts of Mexico earlier this week – they shared the images of devastation online.

About a week ago Trump tweeted about the NAFTA negotiations, “We are in the NAFTA (worst trade deal ever made) renegotiation process with Mexico & Canada.Both being very difficult,may have to terminate?”  Vassy Kapelos, host of The West Block, joins Charles to talk about NAFTA and how it may affect Canadian relations with the USA?

The BC IIO (Independent Investigations Office) investigates incidents by police in which the public is harmed or killed.  They are not police officers but should they receive similar training to officers?  They have come under much controversy recently for how inefficiently they operate.  John Daly will take a close look at the IIO on this week’s Back on the Beat and joins Charles to discuss this weeks show.

The Federal government is coming after small businesses, and they’re betting that since most people aren’t owners or employed by one, the public won’t view it as a scam.  

Florida's emergency management division says nearly 6,000 people are already huddling in shelters ahead of Hurricane Irma.  Most of the evacuees are gathered in shelters in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, where catastrophic Category 4 winds are expected to hit this weekend.Hundreds of thousands of residents have fled in anticipation of Irma's winds and storm surge, which have already killed at least 20 people in the Caribbean.  Anthony Farnell, Global News Chief Meteorologist, is on the ground in Florida Beach this evening.
