If you ever get lost in the Texas desert and your weary eyes spot a miniature Prada storeamidst the dunes, worry not, it’s not a mirage. Today the chART squad will take you tothe middle of nowhere, which is precisely where artistic duet Michael Elmgreen & IngarDragset installed the work Prada Marfa. • EP 6: What is a Movement?
What is an art movement? Tough question to answer. Is it whatever an artist does as long as it is backed up by a manifesto? An organic evolution from the norm into new creative spaces, perhaps? Maybe an act of rebellion that more and more artists join until it inevitably turns into that which it swore to destroy in the first place? All of the above? None? Despite their famous knack for beating around the bush, the chART squad has set their minds to accept the challenge of debating what an art movement is. Will they succeed? Will they not? Either way, you can’t miss it!

  • EP 5: Covid-19
For today’s episode of chART, we embarked on a mission to discuss how thecontemporary art world has tackled the COVID-19 situation. Half-way through it werealized that this topic is so extensive that we would barely scratch the tip of the icebergwere we to devote the next decade of episodes to it. So in order to make do with atwenty-minutes-long banter, we will funnel it down to a selection of two artworks as afollow-up to yesterday’s episode on Influenza-inspired art. The chART squad willdiscuss not only their meaning and how they relate to the latest pandemic, but also howthey act as bridges into broader (as well as unresolved, for the most part) debates in theart world.

  • EP 4: Art in Pandemic
In today’s episode of chART, we once again jump into the Artsy DeLorean to travel all the way back to 1918, when the world was struck by another deadly pandemic: Influenza. We have already established that art can be used a window into the past, the snippet of a memory frozen in time. As such, artworks devoted to Influenza can give us a fascinating perspective on how people have historically coped with diseases, and in what ways it differs from the way in which society is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic a hundred years later. So jump in, ready the flux capacitor and off we go!
