While living in Cambodia, Claire was building houses for those in need, showing tourists the beautiful countryside and exploring the Angkor Wat temples on bikes. She also worked an office job while there and hit a moment when she needed to reconnect with her love for travel, so took a trip to Nepal.
When covid hit, Claire returned to London and had the travel blues big time. She realised that this feeling was something that wasn’t talked about enough and it got her thinking more about mental health.
Claire has now founded an incredible project, Mind Over Miles. It is a group of Mental Health Advocates that are spreading awareness of the positive impact that outdoor adventure can have on your well-being.
Their first big project involved a team of three people cycling from Lands End to John O Groats (one end of the UK to the other). Her goal is to one day cycle from London to South Korea and bring along anyone who might be interested.
Claire is all about being open to new adventures and saying yes. After travelling to 32 countries, she has a wealth of knowledge of the world and we only scrape the surface of some of her adventures.
Tune into to learn:
How can Nepal help you reconnect?
What makes Cambodia so special?
Where to go in Africa to relax?
Where to get involved with fellow cyclists who want to travel?
How to start a cycling adventure?
What are the top three phrases to learn when visiting Costa Rica?
Where to stay when cycling around the world?
How to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats?
What tour company to use in Cambodia?
Ever wanted to go on an epic bike adventure, but not sure where to start? Claire has loads of tips. You certainly don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on something. As long as it’s got a frame and two wheels, you’ll be laughing!

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, it’s heritage listed and its located just off Hervey Bay in beautiful Queensland. Whales cruise by, turtles chill in the intertidal zones, mangroves grow happily, dingoes roam the beaches and so much more! My mate Neive gets to call this place home.
She jumps on and talks about the island, how she ended up there and how she feels about being able to share the conservation message to travels that visit the island.
Her tips for the tropical island life include, have warm clothes handy, always carry your sunglasses and don't forget your towel for when you find that perfect spot to lay in the sun.
Nieve tells me how getting out into nature and surrounding herself with likeminded people through university studies and volunteer projects has helped her follow her passion and now live her dream as an eco-ranger on Fraser Island.
Tune in for some great messages about protecting the ecosystems around us.

Dialling in from the Philippines, Sen is a free spirited guy on a mission to save our environment and have fun while doing it. He is a mad keen traveller that was inspired by a family trip to Palawan, but wanted to go and let his hair down and enjoy a few Red Horse beers with friends, so he did! On that journey of exploring the world he discovered its true beauty and through his involvement with nonprofit organisations developed a passion to save the planet.
Throughout our chat, Sen claims he has seen the best of the best sunset, with all the colours, on the beautiful island of Boracay and he shares how the island has changed after being closed for too much pollution and now it feels like it did in the 70s. And they're even seeing whale sharks!
We talk about sandos and how to travel light. What is a sando? A singlet!
To finish off our chat, Sen drops the mic when he answers the ultimate Miss Universe question - Don't be selfish about living on this planet. Start with yourself, look around and practise living responsibly. The Earth is only hope. You can never go wrong in saving the world.

Aloha from Oahu, Hawaii.
From Lord Howe Island to Exmouth in Western Australia, to the islands in the Philippines, Hannah has lived an adventurous few years.
If you’re mad keen on diving and want to turn that into a reality, Hannah gives us some hot tips on how to do just that. She started in Australia on a working holiday visa, went travelling and lived in South East Asia and then completed her dive masters in Komodo, before becoming a diving instructor in Bohol.
We talk about how the Komoda national park is something that everyone should experience.
It is part of the coral triangle and due to the various currents in the area, it brings different nutrients and loads of species to create an underwater dream! Let’s not forget to mention the huge Komodo dragons that cruise around.
Hannah gives a shout out to Azul Unlimited diving for if you are ever in the region.
These experiences of travel and being immersed in the underwater world has built a strong connection for Hannah between her and the ocean. She has found her passion and gone all in on it. Her days are spent diving for Reef Pirates Diving, working for coral restoration projects and educating people every day. In her down time she loves to go to ‘Spitting Caves’ to switch off and reset.
Finally we talk about the plastic problem and the effects of putting a big city on a small island. Having the great ocean garbage patch surrounding the waters of the island, she sees trash on the beach every single day and has recently just saved a turtle from further ingesting fishing line. Thankfully though, Hawaii is onto the eco friendly options.
Hannah is a big advocate for educating people about the environment and why we need to protect it. She recommends that everyone get outside and hit the beach or take a dive and immerse yourself into the ocean.
Here bomb drop at the end is - “get out of your comfort zone. Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain. This applies to anything in your life. If you can go out and make a change or an impact, even if you’re doomed and you’re going to fail or maybe you won't fail at all. You go out there and you make the change!”

Jess is a teacher with a passion for the environment, she has been involved in coral watch surveys, studied marine science, worked as a dive instructor and now has a plan to travel Australia and teach people about the environment along the way.
Dialling in from sunny Mackay, Queensland, where her little crew (husband and two dogs) live and explore the area whenever they can.
We chat about studying and living the life of a volunteer in a marine science world, then over in Spain where she researched seahorses and if they were being affected by the tourism industry. Her love for the underwater world (in particular the reef off Byron Bay) led to becoming a dive instructor.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to survey coral and help researchers combat bleaching events? Jess gives me the rundown on how that’s possible!
Coral Watch and Tangaroa Blue are two examples of organisations where you can become a citizen scientist and collect data for them, then input it into a system.
This is such an important thing, because we need research to put measures into place to save the environment.
Jess has always had a love for conservation, but admits that being physically involved in it all has helped keep the drive alive and she is so keen to get others involved.
Stay tuned for what Jess and Colby get up to, they might be in a town near you!
Her take home message “Anyone can make a difference. Educate yourself, talk to others and learn from them. Everyone can make a change! Get out there, see the world and leave it in a better place than you found it”

Co-Founder of the wonderful not for profit ‘Feeding Change Philippines’
Lhanz has worked in a lot of different sectors, including marketing, e-commerce and tourism. He worked in Cambodia for a few years then got offered a job back in the Philippines while he was on a holiday in Palawan.
Lhanz grew a love for travel and had a desire to backpack alone; he discovered that travel can teach you so much more than what a textbook can. It allowed Lhanz to face his fears and he really stepped out of his comfort zone.
He admits, travel is the best teacher!
It is thanks to travel that Lhanz then founded a pub crawl business, he started the Feeding Change Philippines organisation and is working on a travel business in the Philippines.
Feeding Change Philippines is an organisation that was born from the idea to give everyone a platform to give back, whilst having fun. The organisation focuses on six sectors: medical, buildings, animals, people, education and environment. There is something for everyone!
Since they started in 2017 they have run 21 events and the future sees big things and so many people will be touched by the efforts of the team at Feeding Change Philippines.
Lhanz’s piece of advice is to “MOVE and just do it.

Fi has been travelling the world for years, living with and learning from many different cultures and making a positive impact wherever she goes.
This episode touches on so many topics and will inspire and motivate you to learn more about this beautiful world that we live in. Dialling in from Koh Payam in Thailand, this episode is a must hear!
We go back to the 80’s when she first started travelling to Thailand and how she fell in love with the culture, the people and everything that was the land of smiles. When the tsunami hit the shores in 2004, the country was left in devastation and Fi went immediately over to lend a hand.
Over the years she has met incredible people doing incredible things, like Amanda and Gary, the founders of All For Villages. They cleaned wells to allow people to have fresh, clean water, assisted in the hospital and the school systems and helped the animals by providing food and starting a sterilization program. Plus so much more!
Some years later Fi met the Moken people whilst visiting Koh Payam and was intrigued at how they lived and wanted to know more about these ‘Guardians of the Sea’. Fast forward a few years and Fi has been welcomed into their community. She describes their culture and how they work together to survive, their connection with the spirit of nature and what they are doing now in this modern world.
We discussed the ‘trash for cash’ and ‘waste bank’ initiatives that they have started on the island and in the school with the help of ‘Ranong Recycling’ and the ‘Jan & Oscar foundation’. As well as, the success of the ‘Lanta Animal Welfare’ program and how we can get involved with these projects.

This episode I chat with the ultimate traveller who went from being the party guide in Europe to coordinating house builds in 3rd world countries, Kristin has made it her goal to do what she loves and be a humble, change maker.
Kristin and I have a quick catch up on our party days (and how we have 'grown up' now), then we get down to business with what she has been up to. Her story starts with getting her bags stolen in Europe, having to do a bit of free labour then requesting a transfer to a gig in South East Asia.
We discuss how tourism benefits the lives of communities and how we have a great opportunity to return to tourism in a much more sustainability way.
The topic of waste management over in Siem Reap comes up and how having no waste collection infrastructure leaves a lot of communities in a sticky situation. But things are looking up for the future, with the younger generations having access to so much more than their parents did.
We finish off with diving into the work that she is doing with the NGO Writing Through and how it has opened up an opportunity for a lot of people to gain skills that are not taught in the education system.
This episode was super inspiring and a good kick up the bum to consider others more in your decisions.
TAKE HOME MESSAGES
- Whatever it is that you're trying to do, it doesn't have to be perfect and every single person can change the world!
- If we make decisions based on how you think it will effect others. The world will be a better place.
Thank you (Ah Kun
