Meet John. He, like many other parents out there, struggled to get through the day. He lived to work, would then ‘complete’ his day with beers and rubbish food and then try to be present with his family when he got home each night. He was tired, depressed and hated daily life. Reality set in finally when he was on the beach and couldn’t take his shirt off in public for fear of public ridicule, due to his belly hanging over his trousers.
He came in for a chat just over 12 months ago and asked if it was possible to change his life or if he was too far gone.
I reassured him that everyone has the ability to change, they just need to have a clear target/goal set and then work backwards to build a system of steps to get to that goal.
Knowing it was now possible he changed his mantra to “I just have to show up everyday and I’ll get better.”
Within 6 months he hit his weight loss target of nearly 40kgs. He had gained strength and mobility. He was able to spend more quality time with his family and kids because he actually had energy and purpose to his day again.
The process we followed included:
- mindset- focus on just getting the work done each week instead of the number on the scales
- nutrition – we added protein to all main meals each day and taught him about portion control
- training – we found his starting points and then focused on hitting 4-5 sessions per week
- lifestyle – making time to train and food prep instead of flying on autopilot by planning ahead his week.
John now looks for opportunities everyday to go out and enjoy life. He moves daily and now even hits 5km runs on weekends as it clears his head from the stresses of the work week. Plus the best part is he now knows he inspires his 2 young daughters to create better lifestyles for themselves as they grow together.
Stories like this are the reason why I love my job so much, John came in lost, not knowing where to start & thought he had no hope of ever getting results.
What John was doing wrong is he didn’t have someone to guide him towards his goal and tell him change was possible.
It's been epic working with John & I love working with people who need the same help!
